People can already cheat easily. Thats not a valid reason. Its more important to have server software that detects cheating and kicks them off. The problem with the Twister hack was NOT the client. It was the server, there server should have realized someone was hacking (especially with twister, its very obvious) and kicked them off.

You can run an FTP server on any port, any decent FTP server software will not crash if u run on a different port. try a really high one like 43252 as they are not always blocked, more likely the problem is the university prevents all incoming connections.

The official 10th anniversary of SubSpace takes place Friday 30 November 2007. I would suggest the weekend 1&2nd of december is used for all the offical celebrarions. We need to start planning now for the party $$ Which means ideas etc are required. My ideas Needs a website with these sections - History with different stories of subspace from different view points. (basically people write there accounts of the history, not just one "official" account, seeing all the different views is more interesting) - Event listing for the weekend + (week!??) events to be hosted in many zones simltainously (no point trying to force people to go other zones cos the only people who did advert in there zone other zone events was and still is TW) - Link to special Forum here - DIGG button - get a Slashdot on subspace with link the aniversary website - Some kinda promo/compe!@#$%^&*ion - SSRadio covering the weekend - player interviews + videos - Special banner and ship set - Events should have SVS theme. Special maps for all SSC zones for the event. try and get in major Gaming Magazines. This is a great event to celebrate all that is and more importantly for alot of people WAS great about subspace. I'd like to see subspace go out with a BanG, lets make this our last party before quietly sliding into obsurity.

Its incredibly similar in many ways. I once ported a program from java to c# and i only had to rename the toString to ToString calls to get it to work. This is a rarity but normally about 90% of the code will match

The most miraculous thing about this whole story is you can still play subspace 10 years on....

Acctually is wasnt as bad as when XP came out because you can use windows 2000 (which is based on nt 4) drivers in XP. And windows 2000 had been around a couple of years before so they had stable drivers. The new driver system in vista means drivers that have had 7 years+ years of development to mature and have all bugs ironed out have had to be completely rewritten. Additionally the new driver system is substancially more complex. This is why there is this significant driver problem with Vista. Windows Vista = new Windows ME - need i say more Wait for version after Vista. 1. All the drivers will work by then 2. Microsoft cut all the good/significant changed they were going to make to windows out of vista to rush out an eyecandy release. Serious question for vista users. Whats acctually new in terms of functionality? Its nearly entirly looks.

In a future client it would be better to use a vector based map format rather than tiles if pixel perfect was required. Map sizes would increase however still.
