Are there any client-side bots available for download?
doc flabby replied to 2d spaceship gamer's topic in General Discussion
the ddraw.dll wrapper technique i have refered to would not assist in cheating (in subspace, it "could" in other games), as it would only wrap directdraw calls. Its a totally different technique to hooking api calls. You essentially write your own "fake" dll which then calls the real dll functions within it. dlls are kept in a separate memory space to continuum so it wouldnt interfere. -
priitk passing the client on..what do you think

correct me if im wrong but the cracking of the subspace encryption allowed the development of bots etc. As in it sparked a massive amount of development. -
Bascially what i was trying to say is tread carefully you have less rights in this case than you may think (im not a lawyer tho) As the website is going to look obviously very old (webdesign has changed a bit since 1999) im sure people who find it will realise this is work you did 10 years ago. They may not even think you are the same person.

I have never used XFire but I think I saw a screenshot once, it overlays its UI ontop of whatever game you are playing. Basically it looked like 3rd party priv messaging for any game (ss, cs, whatever). Well if what I said is correct then there must be a "safe" way to do it. To get xfire to work so you can use it in game you have to add specialy code to the game (ie u need src or some kinda wrapper) xfire doesn't work ingame with ss, and doesnt overlay in fullscreen mode because it doesnt have access The ddraw.dll wrapper would be the best way of doing this imo without the continuum source, you could always try api hooking which "might" work but i think continuums anti debuggin stuff would probabbly choke on it. Unfortunatly i've not found a (working) pre-made wrapper i can modify nor do i have the ability to write it myself. To be honest half of what i have just said is probabbly bs as i don't have a great knowlege of c++ and how windows works. -
Acctually it doesn't. Just because you own the rights to the original work, does not en!@#$%^&*le you to ownership of all copies of that work. The copy of the work you sent her belongs to her. You issue is with the rights to display that copy. You said it "wasn't an open ended invitation for them to display it for life" You never said that though when originally giving the copy to her. You said "you can display this work". You gave the right to display the work of art for an indefinate time Its like when you buy a DVD, on the packaging it says you are not allowed to publically broadcast it/rent it etc. its there for a reason - to restrict your rights to broadcast the work (which you never did at the time of providing the work) But the ownership of the DVD is still yours. You own the copy of the work. Copyright is not a one way street. Its a comprimise between artists and the people. You would do better contacting the Webhost to get the address of the owner and writing to them. But imo they would be legally en!@#$%^&*led to display it as long as they wanted.
-
Hang on though. you gave this person an implicit licence to display your copywritten work. You can't make them take it down. You can't demand rights you have given away to someone. You have no legal rights you could use to demand it is taken down imo. Its not like they stole your work....you gave it to them and gave them permission to display it.

Meh if all these new twister-style hacks for continuum improve and become more public it becomes somewhat irrelivent who has the source. -
however it would prevent people needing to type ?passwd. Alot of people don't know this.
-
why not just use the public biller for now....Not like its hard to switch to SSC when u want to and at least it would stop all this name stealing business. Also would be much easier to ban the hackers on a biller. You could even download and use my java biller if you wanted to just to secure things. the only thing its missing is chats.

ASSS is ez to setup, a newb like me can run it its even easier to run on linux than windows. if you don't like ASSS u can run subgame on linux as well now.

PSSF has been down for a few weeks. I've reconfigured the server ready to host some more zones. However i was hosting a zone called Turf Dev. I've lost the details of the owner, i don't know if they still want hosting. If they still require hosting please contact me. I've kept all your files and settings so they are safe if you need them.

you should go out more. uhmmmm, really where in my post did i insinuate or imply that i don't go out flab-!@#$%^&*? Seriously, make some more sense in your posts and try to back them up, rather than say random !@#$%^&* that make you look like an idiot. Well as far as i can see your bored of this game. Why carry on visting a forum of a game you obviously don't like playing. Not everyone has played this game for 5+ years. Move on. Do something you enjoy. Posting in here is wasting your time. Unless you are on a mission to damage a game because you can't stand the thought that other people still enjoy it.

you should go out more.

Just want to amuse everyone. The PSSF server stats: 256MB VPS 10 GB Diskspace 300GB Bandwidth shared 100Mb port. Does the job for everything i need. If you are going to run a server start small is my advice. no point paying for stuff you arn't using.

I started to work on a clientside mod/bot/plugin but i gave up Bascially what it did is it trailed then end of session.log, so it would receive all the commands a player typed The idea was it was going to be a winamp controller for continuum so you could type b ?play hit me baby one more time and britany would come screaming out your speakers However the prob i had is there was no way i would work out to provide visual feedback. There is a way where by you could play text inside continuum when you are playing, however i lack the techincal ability to do it. And it would be verging be on hacking the game It bascially involes wrapping the ddraw.dll (the directx dll that writes the graphics to the screen) with your own code. So you intercept the drwaing instructions from continuum and modify them. This is non-trivial. It is one way some hacks such as seeing though walls work in other games. In continuum however it couldnt give you any unfair advantage as you can change all the graphics easily so i think it would be faily safe. -
Yes however i need to do some repair work to my server over the weekend first - was going to do it last weekend but i went out instead. During testing of a few things - i've screwed it up which has caused a few isses, none of the hosted zones are appearing in the directory for example. Just need a quiet few hours to sort it out. After i've completed that I will be be providing slots again.

communitys can create amazing things. TASpring being one example. http://spring.clan-sy.com/ which is actually better than the commercial game.

we're all just to have to learn !@#$%^&*embly and mod it lol

You don't need the source to replace the SSC Biller. You would need it to improve/update it.
-
For the record I think people may have got the wrong idea. I have no interest in "overthrowing" the coucil. I have no interest in the council full stop. My aim is to provide choice. Compe!@#$%^&*ion is good and encorages creativity. If SSC had some compe!@#$%^&*ion the biller technology could/would have been improved substancially from its current state today, we might even be able to have more than 10 chats and a proper ingame email system and scores working.

Ya where alot of people chat and get very excited over nothing. And the rest of us get on with it.

I thought on myspace anything you upload becomes the property of myspace. Something in the small print.

I understand why people who have played this game for 5+ years might not want to play it as much anymore. Or in fact find a different game to play. People move on. However what everyone seems to forget is the new people who play, the game is all new to them. if you can remember back to when you started playing, and the delight of managing to kill your first enermy ship. The game still held your imagination, you found it fun. The problem we have is alot of people in positions of power have stopped enjoying playing the game. The honourable thing to do when you no longer enjoy something is to quit. passover your responsibilities. This is very hard to do, people get used to their power, and worry other people won't do as good as job. Because of this they start to hate the game, because they feel forced to help something they don't enjoy playing and have no interest in. Let go. Most of the sensible people in positions of power in real life, step down or find a new thing when they feel they have done all they can and want to do something else, a new challenge, something they find fun/interesting. Its called moving on. On example is Bill Gates, he the richest man in the world, but he is bored of Microsoft's he built it up achieved great things, windows runs on 95% of desktop computers in the world. That is an achievement. But now he has quit the day to day running of Microsoft and given up his power over the company (in some ways he still retains a shareholding) to focus on his AIDS and africa stuff, because that is his new challenge. Personally i think Prittk is a guilty as many people in the SS of this. He should have found someone to p!@#$%^&* the source code on to. Who wanted to continue and maintaine the dev of continuum, when he got fed up of it, but he couldn't let go. Because of the lack of dev much damage has been done to continuum. Its stagnated, nothing has changed since 2002 in terms of the client.. Not stepping down when you should do is damaging to everyone including yourself. You should spend the little time on this earth you have doing things you enjoy. When you stop enjoying what you are doing, stop doing it and do something you do find fun.

Maybe YOU are bored of this game. But i still enjoy playing it. Its still fun to me. Maybe its because i only started playing in 2005. The subspace you describe means nothing to me. My subspace experience is this. I login play a few events in TW, or pop over to EG for some pubbin, chat to my fellow brits in our chat and some of my squadmates. Maybe play a twd game, or i just go pub and play. All this other bs doesn't apply because i'm not involved in it. I think that at!@#$%^&*ude that we should let it die is pretty selfish. Not everyone who plays has been playing for a long time. New players play subspace every day. My issue is really, what do the people who play really want. Rather that what all these people who stopped playing want What server hosts etc want may not be best for the game. I don't think i've seen any creative suggestions from anyone in this forum. Graviton nailed it in this post. http://forums.sscentral.com/index.php?showtopic=12980#22

Personally i don't give a crap about the council, not seen them do anything in the time i have been playing this game. (since october 2004 im a newb ) A monopoly is not a good thing, which is the current situation with SSC. There is no reason for them to do anything as they don't need to. The current situation is people can whine all they want about ssc, but ssc don't care, they don't have to, because currently subspace = SSC. Thats the truth. This is where the PSS (PlaySubSpace) network comes in. Essentially we are an alternative to SSC run services. PSS runs the only independant public directory server. (ssdir.playsubspace.com) I'm currently developing SkyBill (a TCP Biller) which when finished will be used to provide the first Public TCP Billing service.
