Open office is good at somethings. If you have corrupted doc or xls files it can normally open them, when excel and word can't. Open office reminds me of how word 6.0 was and excel 4.0 (if anyone can remeber them back in the win 3.11 days) Back then everyone used lotus 1-2-3 and wordperfect because word and excel sucked it has a long way to go to catch up with ms office. However ms office owns it ez. But if you cant afford the £400 to buy office (not everyone is a student ) and you don't want to be a pirate open office starts to look like a good bet That said ms 2007 is designed to force people to upgrade. Also Microsoft is refusing to fix an exploit (that is being actively used) that effects all versions of word except word 2007. If you have office 2000 like i do there really i no compelling reason to upgrade. office 2000 does everything i need.

The 'main' thing holding it up is that the SERVER doesn't even have access to the SSC Biller (last I was told). So first the server has to get approved. Would have been better to go with a server that was already connected to the SSC Biller. As far as i understand it the issue is Linux ASSS boxes with an SSC connection. I hear windows is useless with ASSS. Since the loss of SSCX-A and SSCI I don't think any other then SSL are left. windows works fine with ASSS now. It did used to have problems tho. I've even run multiple instances of ASSS on my xp machine to test my biller with no probs. There are other ASSS hosts out there. I was willing to offer ASSS hosting for hyperspace (on linux) on one of the PSS Servers. I think SSL offered a better deal however.

You could use LVZ to alter the appearence of the energy bar i think.

This could only be done with a traditional UDP Biller at the moment because of the way in which the TCPBiller Protocol works at the moment, you would have to add the packet at the Server (!@#$%^&*S) Level. One idea would be add an additional RAW command to the TCP Billing protocol which would allow a TCP biller to send a raw subspace packet if it so wished.
-
Wasn't going to meantion this untill i had it finished. Just wanted to throw this out there, i'm working on a TCP Biller. Which uses mysql database as a back-end. Similar to smong's one. But with completly new code. If you can find the SSC packet, you should be able to change ASSS so it transmits it.

Ya it just annoyed me. I went to the zone to try it out thinking there was people playing get to the zone and the only people playing were two bots and myself Looks a fun zone to play tho just needs a few more people i love the gun turrets.

Because they stick you on a server that is hosting about 300/400 other sites and charge you though the nose for a slow !@#$%^&* site. Then again they don't use cpanel which is a plus. cpanel is a horrible program. Only works with out of date software, is buggy, overcomplicated and configures the server is a stupid way imo. rant over

I would read some reviews on dreamhost before deciding on them experiences on them are mixed. Some people have experienced downtime and problems with them. Others have had no problems. http://www.webhostingtalk.com is good place to look for reviews of hosts. I wouldnt recommend hosting a forum like this on at dreamhost as they have quite stringent cpu and memory limits. Of course it depends what package you get. Im just saying be sure to read the TOS (as you should with any host)

You may be interested to note in my original post i did not cite cheating as a reason to create a new client. My main concern was vista, which has since ceased to be a problem. This has started to lead me in a different direction.

An afterthough: I think intending to remake, or duplicate the functionality of the current continuum client is a waste of time and energy. Also it is hard to attract interest and investment for what would be essentially a conveluted bug fix

Windows still owns linux on the desktop. But linux is catching up. I say give it 5 years and linux will be on a par with microsoft. One of the big areas we are ignoring however. There is the large lack of MAC as well as Linux games. Now that new macs run on x86 it should be easy to port a linux compiled app on to the Mac i imagine (lol i say "easy" i have no idea) ------------------------------------- FreePascal is pretty close to C speeds. Object Pascal has a much nicer object model than c++ imo. I dont think it would necesserly need to be programmed in c/c++. Or at least not all of it. Personally i would avoid the use of C++ altogether. We could stick to using C/C++/FreePascal to perform sections of the code that require high perfromance. The areas i can see the use of C or FreePascal (c++ if you must ) might be necessery - the Physics engine - network stack (including encryption) The areas it could be necessery, but probabbly isnt. - the Graphics engine - responding to user interaction (mouse + keyboard + joystick events) There is an arguement for using c/c++/FreePascal however. The main one being is they just work. You dont need to install "java" or ".net" or nething else to get the program to run. You can supply all the needed files in the installer. I think it would be a mistake to start on this project without having a plan. So far no such plan exists.

Another linux on continuum link. this one is specific to ubutu http://forums.minegoboom.com/viewtopic.php?t=7142

population is stable. Best way to prevent population loss is to ban cheaters for as long as possible. People hate playing in a game full of cheaters. Cheaters killed subspace. Continuum was the only thing that save it. Dont cheat - dont get banned. its that simple.
-
bak has done excellent work on discretion but.... I don't see discretion as the future of this game. Its too similar to continuum. It doesnt add anything. Cracking the subspace encryption brought bots to this game Continuum brought new graphics and new games with lvz. ASSS brought customized zones with unique features such as hyperspace. What is discretion going to offer?

Mav the current official installer does this. It comes with 0.37, 0.38 and 0.39pr1. I would suggest to the installer maintainer to remove 0.37 as no needs it. As you have recently reinstalled. I would suggest you check you have upto date graphics drivers. Alot of graphics issues are caused by using old drivers that come with window xp. Use the manuafactureres drivers.

I'm interested in these The reason i asked who u hosted with is because with registerfly you can push the domain to anyone else who is registered on registerfly (free transfer in other words)

Why is Continuum Population rate going down?
doc flabby replied to Hitec's topic in General Discussion
You obviously have not read the thread. Continuum DID NOT WORK ON VISTA BETA Continuum DOES WORK IN VISTA RETAIL (ie the one you can buy in the shop and is installed on new computers) If continuum runs on 5 different computers with different hardware. thats a pretty good indication it will work on most machines. The idea of windows or any OS is that if software runs on one machine it will run on ALL of them. I think vista will cause less problems because AV software can't mess about like it can in xp and cause the 100% cpu usage issues. -
who are the domains hosted with? if i was you i would consider not giving away all of them and selling a couple: If only to get the money back for buying the domains... selling prittk its probabbly worth a bit in the "adult" domain category...

the problem is the client seems to be having trouble on a number of new machines. Alot of people cant get it to run at all, or they may not work out how to play it. Just wait until Vista becomes widespread! Continuum works fine in vista. vista will be more compatible with continuum than xp as it doesnt allow AV programs to mess about. http://forums.sscentral.com/index.php?showtopic=12690 -
