  1. Seriously surprised noone has posted about this yet. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/36875060/ns/technology_and_science-tech_and_gadgets/?GT1=43001
  2. The issue is, the guidelines were made without SVS zones in mind. I don't think any of us even considered anyone would want to try and start anymore SVS zones as they have all been dying, and merging into Chaos. The creator(s) of SVS zones no longer exist. So we end up going with the SSC versions most recent head sysops as the people in this seat. The zone names themselves are property that are outside of VIE's SubSpace CD release of the maps and setings. And Bargeld said the map and settings didn't bother him, but he didn't want him to use the name. That is a request I can respect, and honestly, the zone isn't out West anymore, so Alpha West really doesn't make any sense. As for the maps, as I told TGS, it is just out of respect of other SSC zones. I'd have had to see a really good reason for it to be denied, but it just gives them a heads up when all the players come to that zones sysop whining about it. Players are what are zones are about, and they're the best at harassing people. Like Hyperspace was given permission to use Premiere League's map (I asked Ghost Ship for them, and permission was given) but due to constant harassment from Premiere League players, I think they finally took it down. Or I had heard they did, but never checked tbh. Respecting each other is what SSC is all about, and it is all that keeps us alive. Once we start pissing each other off, and disconnecting ourselves from each other again, we'll begin the huge fall again. We've finally leveled off, and the network sysops are getting along decently again. We can't do this alone, and need to work together if we plan to have a future. Sorry, bot a bit off subject, but yeah. That is my whole feeling behind all of this. I have pretty much been left in charge of inspecting new zones that want to join the SSC Network, and I am very lenient on it. But when it comes to SVS, it is honestly very messy, and very hard to lay down ANY sort of rules without just getting the entire game to say "VIE no longer owns SVS, and the current svs head sysops now own the rights to the content". Which of course could never happen, and legally is wrong, so we're stuck here.
  3. No, its not paid. SS Staff has never been paid, lol. Anyone else interested? Could still use someone for EG, HS, Chaos, and Powerball. Maybe someone to monitor the SSCC, SSCV, SSCL servers and other smaller SSC zones (SSCU/SSCX, T3).
  4. You could get a cheaper, and from the stats I remember, better server very easily you know. Yes the move would suck, but you aren't using too much resources, and the zones you are hosting are mostly dead. And 2 of them I know are possibly planning to move... Actually both are currently online on a seperate SSC server afaik.
  5. I would like to hire a few community members who would like to help keep SubSpace Online's frontpage alive and active. The site is totally open for anyone to post news here, but it'd seem not everyone always thinks to come here right away when they post news on their zone's website. So to help with this issue, I would like to have a few people who's main job is to visit zone websites, forums, or even just events in zones and report news. Post a comment in this thread if you are interested, and what server you'd like to cover.
  6. Because you'll just get a swift too bad from the bang ops, hell even myself, I would like to hear the story of how this happened. Elaborate on someone using your account to cheat, thanks.
  7. http://community.invisionpower.com/ 3.1 wasn't released as soon as I expected. Comes with it.
  8. not the last mobile one. this one does.
  9. What is odd is I have never had issues with them, even out of that datacenter. Priit might move hosts, but would be some pursuading... Will see if anything can be done I guess, now that he is "actively" communicating again.
  10. Not positive to be honest... We will have to find out.
  11. SSF has its own VPS dedicated to it now (renting my own). Well, it, SSO, Chaos, HS, Deva, and SSCentral. And maybe a few other zones I missed? But yeah, we have a load of extra ram/cpu resources. Also only using on avg 100gb/1.3TB each month (only been 3 months though).
  12. Actually, getting a feeling swift isn't going to renew it.
  13. http://community.invisionpower.com/blog/1174/entry-4830-mobile-skin-now-online/ We will be upgrading to IPB 3.1 this week.
  14. From Trench Wars: All weekend long, events will be hosted as a staff vs world basis. Guaranteed to be hosted ?go turretwar2 ?go deathmatch ?go matrix ?go javs2 and many more events will be hosted!!!!!!! Can the zone defeat the evil staff or will the staff continue to hold the bragging rights for another month? Play to find out!! by H.M.S. Stargazer Sounds like it'll be a bit of fun. Expect to see me there for a few of them.
  15. Need to talk to you to get those and everything else finalized and setup. PM me the best time for us to meet online/in game. I work 0720-1602 PST M-F and requested not to work overtime this weekend.
  16. Cool. Feel free to make a seperate post announcing the winner http://www.ssforum.net/public/style_emoticons/default/blum.gif
  17. texted him said he'd do it this weekend.
  18. Any Winners yet?
  19. Refresh your cache. Screened it and put the old sized title bg over it and that is it. It didn't load the new one for you for some reason. Big changes are coming to the navbar shortly. Will keep this in mind.
  20. A lot of comments I have received on SSO are that the content on larger resolutions is sometimes hard to read. The site was designed with 1024x768 in mind, but most users have moved on to wide screen resolutions, larger resolutions, or a combination of both. Still keeping 1024x768's browser width in mind, I did increase the content font size to make it a bit more readable on larger browsers. This also required me to increase the content box area, and make a few other minor design width changes. Overall I think it still looks perfectly fine, though some pages will need tweaks here and there. But it also does give room on some pages for more content to fit in without causing the page to be miles long. As always, Feedback and Comments are requested. And as you can see, I do listen to them.
  21. About a month ago the Council approved SSL for SSC connectivity. Due to some delays with ops being out of town, including SSL's admin, the official launch was delayed. But now SSL is finally added to the firewall, SSC "Slots" have been added, and SSL zones can now take advantage of SSC. SSCL adds to the growing list of SSC approved hosts who give full support to ASSS on linux, and helps to continue the effort to turn SSC into a more diverse community of zones. Congrats and Good Luck.
  22. I've had enough of it. I had many users complain if root wasn't banned, they'd leave cause they were tired of his crap. I am tired of his crap myself now too. But I don't leave, you do. I'm not blaming the full 140+/day members visiting down to 50-60/day visiting on him, but quite a few old members who complained about him are active elsewhere in this community still. You are an asshole/demeaning to other members of this forum constantly, and then play the little victim when they harass you back. Fuck that bs. Go find another forum to harass. (Added this to his suspension message.)
  23. Actually based mine on the ASSS one so wouldn't be hard. I prefer to understand how something I am using works, so coded my own while researching the methods he used on the php docs. Though found it very useful. As for the directory servers, would probably be a simple tweak to the current code I have to add it in. Might do that this weekend honestly.
  24. Thought this was a really cool read: http://msn.foxsports.com/nhl/story/high-school-teams-set-for-greatest-game-never-played-032910
  25. While the SSC Biller was down I got bored and began thinking of a way to maybe display the status of the biller online. This led me back to an old script I had once began playing with Sockets and UDP to grab zone statuses. Well, through some reading and research I found there is some documentation over the the Server Help Wiki about the Subgame Ping Protocol. It allows you to send a timestamp, and receive a packet containing a timestamp and the current population. So essentially using this, you can determine if the zone is online, and get its current population. So thus I decided maybe a network status page was something I should add to SSO. It was in my original plans, but I never had the time to dwell in it much. You can preview the page here and leave feedback and ideas in the comments section of this post. Thanks and Enjoy.
