Perhaps you are chosssing a name that starts with a symbol, like * % # etc. You will get that error if you try a name like that.

I doubt that there is a problem with the zone you are trying to play or the game itself. Which leads us to your connection to the internet. Try running a "trace" from the main menu of the game. And while in the game, try using the command ?lag to see if you are lagging. It could also simply be a matter of your internet provider. Using services like AOL or MSN on dialup could definately be the culprit.

I have no idea what you just asked. Please rephrase the question.

In advanced options, play with the "show default resolutions" button. You should also try playing in 8 bit or 16 bit color mode. Most monitors can play higher res with lower color depth.

A more general answer is simply that you have a "hardware" problem. It could be memory errors, could be resource sharing problmes, could even be a broken sound or video card. As far as a solution, try disabling things, like the sound card, and see if that helps... hopefully you can stumble onto the offending piece of hardware.

Make sure you are changing the PLAYER name and not the PROFILE name.

high latency means that it could be the quality of your computer, not necessarily the quality of your internet connection. You can get specced and receive the high latency message when you alt-tab, if your computer isn't up to par, or if you have a lot of applications open. Try using the task manager (cntrl-alt-del) and closing anything unnecessary.

Then lets BOTH keep it calm and try to figure it out. Certain things need to be done in a certain order, so when ppl suggest a solution, sometimes you might want to try it a second or third time, rather than just skipping it. We are here to help, and you simply aren't taking it.

ok It's because the "first" time you try to run it... it was already running. You can see it in task manager. So you log off, it stops the process of loading it. In task manager (when you log back on) it will not be listed. Therefore when you run it the "second" time it works because logging out stopped the process. And I use "first" and "second" because the application was already running when you started your motions. They are actually the "second" and "third." BUT this proves that it's not loading. So lets go from there.

There is a point at which your knowledge of the game is exceeded by others. You have hit this point here with me. Either I am unable to properly describe how the architecture of this game works, or you are unable to understand my description. Regardless, for over 7 years I've seen people SWEAR they got hit with a 600 damage bullet in alpha. The max damage is 400, therefore there is another explanation. The same is true here. You swear something is happening, but you are unable to determine it yet. Grasping at reasons and !@#$%^&*igning them as the problem does not help, nor will we learn from it. And BTW.. a cloaker sitting in front of or on top of you WILL cause a bullet to "disappear as soon as you shoot it."

The message about dll failed because the workstation is shutting down makes sense, especially when you say that you start continuum, then shut down the computer. And the load once and wont load the second time.... I bet you can hit cntrl alt del and see the process still running... which prevents a second instance of it from working. Obviously you haven't been there, or done that.
