    delay

It's all based on lag... the amount of time it takes for the anti to register on the attaching person's client. If you attach and lay a portal real quickly, it wont do any good anyway. By the time your bombFireDelay (the setting used for the delay between items) allows you to actually portal back to the beacon, the antiwarp will have kicked in and the portal wont work until you are out of range of anti. It's not really a bug, its a function of lag, and how long it takes for packets to get where they are going, and it doesn't provide any usable benefit, so I wouldn't worry about it.

  4. Use windows exploder and browse to Continuum\zones\SSCX Extreme Games and delete all the files in there. Next time you enter the zone, dont read the zone news (if you spend too long reading the news, the server will disconnect you.) And make sure you allow the game to download all the zone's files (there is a percentage/progress indicator to let you know how far it's gone.)
  5. Are you trying to play from a school or work connection, or anywhere behind a firewall? This is most commonly the case when none of your games will play online. IF you are behind a firewall, the only real way around it is to change some of those settings, if you have access to do that (like your home router,) or, if you are at a school or office machine, you will have to ask the network admin make some changes for you (which usually will never happen, because they have it set up like this on purpose to stop gaming, and other apps from using bandwidth. This may not be the case, so don't let this scare you... but we need a little more info in order to help. Open continuum and hit CTRL + T This will start a trace for the server you have selected, let it run for a few cycles, at least 25 or 50... Then hit Export... then open that file. Post the results here so we can see what's going on.

    S2C

Packetloss is very comon while using 11mbps wireless networks. The only thing you can really do is to try to improve the reception by moving closer to the receiver or changing the WEP channel (I've heard that lower channels provide a cleaner connection.)
  7. I've been copying my profile.dat macro.dat etc from computer to computer, ever since we I first started using continuum... and I have never had a problem "importing" them (I've never had to edit the registry either.)
  8. I agree.

  10. make sure you are set for 8 bit color in the game enter the game and take a screenshot open that file in your favorite editor, and save the color palette. Now, any time you make tiles, or any graphics for the game, apply that color palette to it before you save it as an 8 bit .bmp (the problem you are experiencing is that the images you are making are 32 bit color depth, and when you play the game, your color depth is reduced to 8 bit, so the game adjusts the colors automatically, and (generally) it looks like crap.)
  11. update to the most recent version of directX http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en
  12. This is game dev, not the workaround workshop. Imagine having a screen which behaves similarly to the zone list at main menu, but instead a player list and squad list (or players) which is right cllickable for more info. Also make an additional dialog accessable from the alt tab menu wih similar/same options. This way, these things dont need to be added to the gameplay portion of the client.
  13. haha, but I should clarify... maybe 50 MAX ppl for the list as a whole, but only 10 displayed "per page" type of thing.
  14. Squad members/info could be displayed here too
  15. Ok a possibility: A Buddy window, which lists, say, 10 ppl in it (max) the Buddy list isn't refreshed unless it's open (as a panel or something) when open, it will update similar to the ping update at the main menu... but only for the 10 listed. If you scroll down, there are still only 10 listed. (this will constrain the bandwidth to a throttle-able level)
  16. Think of the extra bandwidth: finding info for X amount of ppl each time a person logs and then keeping it updated
  17. On a serious note (because I moderate another forum, but not this one) please don't post links to hacking and warez/appz sites. Helping someone else is one thing, but the forum is not a medium for illegal activities. Keep the site owners and their liability/responsibility in mind. (similarly... the same rules apply to porn links etc.)
  18. Dunno, I replaced the GPP with a Saitek Wireless a while back, so when I got to the Gravis Control Panel thing, it tells me that the drivers arent installed anymore. I seem to remember that there weren't enough keys for all the stuff, and I would need the KB anyway to type. Add to that the fact that the D pad controls SUCK -*BAD WORD*- (good luck straightening your ship.) I tried it for about 5 mins then was done with it.
  19. I have it too, but mine works... just remap the directionals to the arrow keys. Don't use directX mode.

  21. would you prefer that he use 4 images at 540x630 instead
  22. When you create the lvz file, it compresses the image anyway... regardless of how much you compress the "original" it should result in similarly sized lvz files for delivery from your zone. The only thing you can really do do help is to reduce the images to 8 bit. (for a real world example, save a high color image (which actually uses color... not all black or all white) as a jpg at 70% and also as a 32bit bmp. Then use your favorite zip program and zip both in seprate files. Compare the file size... should be relatively comparable.)
  23. just hit cancel, and you can enter the zone in spec-only mode
  24. Use the old client to login and try to remember the password, rather than continuum.
  25. Warhunter, you shouldn't go around calling ppl newbies when you are clueless about them. The stuff you mentioned (in the current scenario and with current hardware) is negligable. You are talking about miniscule amounts of video ram being used. What you say is true, but in this case, the largest benefit you can get get from using multiple textures rather than one single texture would be: increased amount of colors (woohoo) yes thats right, you can save yourself a little bit of image size and video ram) if you use lower color depth images, with different color palettes. If you use 4 different 256 color textures at 256x256 pixels, you can save space over a single 32 bit texture at 512x512 pixels. WOW The previous post I made was made to point out that it wouldn't really make any visual difference with regards to the models (that he actually hadn't added any additional textures to the model.) Try not to be an -*BAD WORD*- when engaged in decent discussions, it will make you appear smarter, so you won't need to try to prove ppl wrong all the time. Note:view my other threads on 3d modeling to see how much of a newbie I am.
