  1. screenshot would help....
  2. It's actually a feature of continuum... tiled background for the chat window. Look in your Continuum directory for: chatbg (I'm not sure if it's a .bm2 or .bmp)
  3. At the main menu, hit control A make sure that you have "no framerate limit" and "avoid page flipping" checked.
  4. GoldenOrb: I deleted the thread in bug reporting and I will repeat my answer: Sounds like a temporary thing, just give it a couple days to fix itself. My main reason for saying that is because you have 0% ploss to your router (192.168.0.1) which means that you can't change anything on your PC to fix anything... everything works fine out to the router. Anything beyond your router means that the problem is out of your control, unless you feel like calling your ISP and complaining to them.
  5. Download it from here: http://beginners.subspace.net/downloads/continuum.exe
  6. Make sure your NAME doesn't start with a symbol. It must start with a number or Valid Character (NOT - _ * & etc) And make sure you change the PLAYER NAME, not the PROFILE NAME.
  7. yes.
  8. Frequency out of Range = Refresh rate is too high. My monitor does this too. Here's the fix: Right click your desktop, choose properties. On the top right hit Settings. On the bottom right, click Advanced. First, check the settings for Adapter, and lower the refresh rate to 60, if possible. Depending on your video card, you may have to change the refresh rate in a different place under the advanced area (try the tabs other than adapter.) Come back if it doesn't work, and remember... target refresh rate is 60 (or possibly lower is you have an LCD monitor.)
  9. See if you can change the IRQ (the instructions are in the previous message.)

    HELP

Probably temporary, just ride it out for a day and see what happens. If using dialup, hang up and reconnect.
  11. Open your case up, and remove the sound card. Turn the computer on and see that the sound card is gone, and it will set the network card to IRQ 11 automatically. Shut the Computer down, put the sound card back in, then boot the system again. It should See that 11 is in use and set it to something else (typically 5.) Then, right click "My Computer" and select "Properties" Choose the "Hardware" tab at the top. Look for any problems there.. if you see anything wierd, right click and choose properties. Here you should be able to change the IRQ if needed.
  12. (QUOTE=Swift,Jun 18 2004, 01:16 AM)I took it off.(/QUOTE) (QUOTE=SVS,Jun 18 2004, 12:34 PM)Can admins do it still... hehe, yes we can.(/QUOTE) All your attempts at proving your point happened AFTER he fixed it.
  13. SVS, plz refer to the Avatar image to the left...
  14. Weekends, I've no time to play during the week... work long hours usually and then real life crap to do. Weekends, early morning, like 6-11 eastern.
  15. No, they couldn't, admins got the "edited by" as well.... Swift disabled the feature, that's why you don't see it. And Zig, I edit my post for things like grammar and spelling errors. It was easier for me to post the topic, then edit it if there were corrections to be made, rather than previewing every message (which requires an extra button click and an extra page to load.)
  16. When editing posts now, you no longer have the option to add/not add the "This message has been edited by....." Any time you edit a post it is added, which I find very annoying. Guess it's back to using the 'ole "Preview Post" button 8(
  17. There is no way anyone on a gamepad can beat my 8 years of keyboard experience. Besides that, with a gamepad, the amount of keys you can press at once is less than the amount you can press using a keyboard. And if you dont think that matters because you never need to press that many leys at once... I do use that many at once, which shows that I have more skill and understanding of the game.
  18. It is NOT a problem in the game, it is due to a crappy keyboard.
  19. Save them in your profile or write them down on paper.

    Error 14

The older version is disabled when 39 is installed. If you try to run it, you will get an error in menures.dll
  21. Make sure the name you are using doesn't start with any odd characters like _ * % etc.
  22. In the zone settings, the zone can be set up to require the graphics. When this is the case, they are not considered "optional" graphics, and therefore, selecting the option to not use optional zone graphics has no effect.
  23. Your workplace might have a firewall/router which restricts the network traffic needed to play SS/Continuum. If you have WindowsXP... right click on Network Neighborhood and choose properties, Double click Local area connection. In the new dialog box, click properties, then go to the advanced tab. Make sure that the checkbox here IS NOT CHECKED. K, I hope that was clear and concise.

    Spikes

I'm !@#$%^&*uming that you had read and tried everything in the pinned topics at the top of this forum. You could also check out http://beginners.subspace.net which has a good amount of well written FAQ and Troubleshooting docs. If you really wanted to test it, you could try hooking up another PC on that network under the same router as your PC, then try playing the same zone (in spec of course, make sure this is ok with your favorite zone's staff.) If they both lag at the same time, then its a network problem, not a PC prob. If only your machine lags, then there is something causing it. To go more in depth requires more info, so I will leave it at that for now. The basic rule of troubleshooting something like this is a ON/OFF thing. Use ctrl-alt-del to view all the apps running, and close anything you don't absolutely need. Trial and error to figure out what it would be.
