  1. So you did stupid shit as a kid, and can't just live and move on. If you'd talk to people, you might realize this is more than common. It is widely known that children learn sexual gratification and exploit it unmeaningfully. Friend of my wife's daughter would play with herself when she was 2 years old, and continued for a while. Buddy of mine joked he would stick his dick in a vacuum hose whenever his mom wasn't looking. When we we're like 3 and 4, my cousin and I would get naked and touch each other, and she even had me stick stuff inside of her. It is common. It has nothing to do with being male or female. And it does not mean you are fucked up in the head in any way shape or form. The fact you can't move on and forget, and think it is something so wrong is your problem. It is in our nature to do anything gratifying, no matter how wrong. You're 19. You're out of high school. Fuck cliches, fuck everything, make something of yourself. Be yourself, cause trust me, there are hundreds of people just like you. I can think of quite a few people I know who fit your same persona of depression. Rather than admitting they are depressed and trying to get help, they cover it up and blame it on other issues, and then deny being depressed and grasp onto minor things that make them happy and make them seem huge. That or they take something that makes them seem semi-happy, and make it sound like it is the best thing ever. And maybe to them it might be, because they feel so down otherwise. I had someone close to me become so depressive he had posted online he didn't want to live anymore. But you couldn't tell it by looking at him. Because he just sucked it up. But he blamed his depression on stupid things, and just hid himself away and didn't get help. Well, finally his family made him seek help, and he did. And he became a lot better person for it. He got married, has a kid, a good job, a new house, graduated from college, everything. I am excited for him, though I don't think he'd ever realize it. Take a few mins of your damn time, and talk to someone. You don't always need drugs. Just someone to talk to, and someone who might actually give you a different view of things. Or maybe help point you in the right direction. A shrink is the best way to start, as they do it from a medical stand point. But they won't always prescribe drugs. Don't become like the 54yr old man I work with who hates his life, blames all his problems on something else, and can't realize his own attitude and actions are what have caused all of his problems. He has heart problems - he probably weighs 300 lbs; He has back problems - He sits on a hard stool all day, bent over a machine; He has breathing problems - he smokes probably a pack a day; And it goes on and on... Wife, Money, Health, everything. All he does is complain about it, and never goes and gets any help for any of it. And he always blames it on someone or something else. Never admits he is the one causing his problems by not doing anything. So rather than blaming all of your problems on stupid shit, go talk to someone and try to figure out the real root problem.
  2. MM. Now searching on the internet seems the Blu-ray issue is about as common as the RROD. Atleast the RROD you can fix by buying a fan accessorie to pull more heat out of the xbox, or just keep it on top of something and clean of dust. That and they did finally fix it with the new version. Seems Sony has acknowledged the flaw in the PS3 through support tickets, but can't find anything publicly acknowledging the issue. Maybe someone else might run into one. So seems even though XBOX has its flaws, so does PS3. Sucks, MAG does look like an awesome game.
  3. The PS3's Blu-ray drive has flaws. So if you only play games, and rarely watch blu-ray movies you'll be fine. Buddy of mine has gone through 5 PS3s already, and another is on his 2nd and its having some issues. Haven't looked into how common it is, but seeing as 2 people are having the same issue, possibly something common. 360 I have yet to have a RROD, but a few friends have. And even the hell they've gone through, they still get XBOX over PS3. So its just by your personal choice. Its like the old Nintendo vs Sega battle. All preference.
  4. Actually has me debating building a computer (have had a laptop for almost 3yrs) just so I can play it on higher settings. Haha.
  5. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/400298/how_to_lightsaber_effect_video_tutorial/ Actually pretty simple to make, interesting.
  6. Will set it to 600x120 Have to set it group by group, so will get to it tomorrow after work. Been a busy week.
  7. Just wanted to note for future people who see this and wonder the same question. Last login on the name he was requesting, was March of 2001. Thanks to registration data/computer info matching on 2 of his aliases, we were able to restore it. Keep this in mind when creating accounts in the future.
  8. In 1 month, SSForum (now Forums.SSGN.Net) will celebrate 8 years as the central forums for this game. They have lasted a long time, and I hope they will go further. Sadly the population of both the game, and these forums has dwindled from their former glory, but the diehards keep things alive and going. To the members and staff who have been here since the beginning, I thank you. To those who have not, but still give a lot of time and effort to the site, I thank you also. A little over 5 years ago, I was asked to come back and take the reign over the sites I had once ran, but gave up. It had been 2years, and a lot had gone downhill between feuds, zones creating their own sites, and Swift not having the time to dedicate so making most things static. I've tried to change that, and will continue to try to. But don't lose hope if you see progress slowing down. It just means either behind the scenes things are going on, or my staff is trying to give me another kick in the butt to keep going, and keep pressing on. These sites belong to the community, and have always been driven by the community. So for as long as this community exists, so will these sites. Enjoy them, take them for what they are, and try to give your thoughts/input/efforts where you can. I can always use the help of people willing to work, not just those willing to give ideas. Thanks for the good times of the past, and cheers to the many to come.

  10. Moving to correct forum... And what you said is a no brainer. No offense, but people get divorced because they drift apart. And the divorce rate of the past would have been higher if not for 2 reasons: Higher percentage of religious people, and lack of Woman's rights. Most woman got use to the idea that they got married, had kids, and then their husband would have mistresses (normally if wealthy, not always). It wasn't uncommon for centuries that wealthy men had children with multiple women. It is was flushed out a lot of the drains of society. A woman didn't have to settle for a poor man and life if she could attract the attention of a rich man. And even better if the man was married, she didn't have to have any of the same responsibilities as his wife did. On top of that, you had a lot more die hard religious people than you do now a days. Ones who followed the guidelines of the church more strictly. Hell, they even ran off and built a country based on the treatment they felt they were being given. Granted later it would be written that other reasons also played a part, but this was at the heart of it. Less of these men ever divorced, cheated, or had mistresses, as they believed that it was wrong as by their book. Funny we were just talking about this at work yesterday and the subject comes up again here. But most the woman brought up the point of Woman's rights. And agreed when I threw in about the normal way of marriage with mistresses. Communication does play a role, but it is other changes in society. Top that with a media making the divorce rate sound thousands of times bigger than it really is thanks to construed data, and many people having multiple divorces and being tracked as a single divorce each time (I know one girl who I work with who is 22 and has been divorced 3x already). But a divorce rate of 5 per 1000 people is still bad, but not EVERYONE's parents are divorced. I know probably 10x less people who's parents are divorced than people who's aren't. Heck, can only name maybe 4 off the top of my head, and 2 are brother and sister, so really 3 sets.

Also know we were in Gamepro at one point, and IGN has reviewed SS a few times. Just a hint to links before I go crash
  12. As SSGN staff know, I am planning to create a huge section for players to submit links to SubSpace reviews in magazines, on websites, and on television. Well, to kind of kick it off, I figured it might be nice to have a few links. I found an old link in my e-mail and it kind of kick started the idea in my brain again. http://books.google.com/books?id=9gEAAAAAMBAJ&lpg=PA56&as_pt=MAGAZINES&pg=PA56 SubSpace in Maximum PC - November 2001
  13. To help promote events around SubSpace, and help get word out about SSGN.net, it was decided we will be teaming up with zones to offer prizes for winning events. Typically a small cash prize with a nice little gift included. Just something to spice up the competition, get more players involved, and help zones promote their events to players from other zones. Last MoC it was decided SSGN would offer $20 and a SS Hat to the winner of the next MoC, and the Staff were very accepting and interested in it. Today during Chaos's Master of Chaos we had our first trial run and first winner, Deathonline. He took the SS Hat, but put the $20 on the line for the next Master of Chaos event winner. It was a very fun event, and players from all over the game stopped by to play, creating a very good turn out. Both SSGN and Chaos benefited from the promotion as we had a chance to see if the idea was worth trying, and Chaos had quite a few players in pub practicing and preparing for the MoC Event. There will be a small break as we work to decide future prizes, and begin working with zones to team up and work on which events would be best to promote. But expect to see atleast 2 prized events a month, and some very cool SS Novelty prizes being offered up.
  14. $20 and a SS Hat Prize is being sponsored by SSGN.net So come on out and try to win it! 1 Hour and Counting.
  15. As with any Trade In, they clean it, test it runs good, and then seal it and sell it. So no doubt there will be some very cheap pre-owneds soon.
  16. It was a huge trade in offer I wish I had jumped on sooner. But then again, hearing that some people may not get an Xbox until October now makes it not so bad. I'd assume MS is probably pretty mad at Gamestop though as I am sure they backed their order line up even more than normal, and the holiday season is coming soon. http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-28759-Atlanta-Video-Game-News-Examiner~y2010m6d26-GameStop-tradein-deal-for-Xbox-360-Slim-is-dead-no-longer-taking-preorders
  17. I think this may be the 1st game I have been excited for in a long time. Starcraft was the 1st computer game I ever bought and one of my favorite games ever. I normally hate those style of games, but for some reason Starcraft just had the right style... I dunno. Something about it just made it fun. Can't wait for the new one... mhmm.
  18. Read this in the paper the other morning at work. Found it kinda interesting. http://www.good.is/post/washington-gets-america-s-first-electric-highway?GT1=48001
  19. Ignore "clichs" and shit like that. I many times passed up "Quest" (special classes for "gifted" kids) cause I wanted to be with all my friends and found school boring and skipped a lot. I also picked on and treated most the smart kids or computer geek type kids like crap. Funny enough at home away from most my friends I myself was dwelling into computers with my cousin. Looking back, I really wish I woulda done the Quest classes as a buddy of mine who actually did got a fully paid ride through the University of Washington for 4yrs. Lots of huge grants and shit available to the kids who go through those classes. Or atleast at the minimum did the college prep classes like my youngest brother did. The one thing I told my bros and luckily they listened... "Work hard now, and have fun later". I got lucky and got a really good paying job for the government, but that was a lot of hard work, and still is proving myself. It sucks seeing people I went to school with walkin around as Engineers or working Codes (overseers of most the work done on the ships/subs/etc. by people like me). Knowing what I'll have to go through to get there, and they're already there and working comfortably really sucks. So take my experience as example. And I am sure many others could give you their same experiences, but really, take them to heart.
  20. From DSB's News.txt: Following the previous announcement on 13 June, I have decided not to shutdown the zone. For more information can be found here: http://forums.deathstarbattle.com/showthread.php?t=1749 -Hoch Seems the players pursuaded Hoch to go against his personal feelings. Tack another point for the players of this community fighting to keep it alive.
  21. Yeah. Thanks for the info Sketter, but it was a lot simpler than that in this case, hah.
  22. If you read it, it is in celebration of the world cup. Those are all the countries who went to the world cup.
  23. There is always a time when you realize there is a human behind that little ship moving around and typing back at you. Not just some AI, or some preprogrammed response. Luckily a lot of times, it is when SS Players get together to hang out, have a drink, goto a game, give each other a hand, or just meet up for any random reason. But sadly, over the many years, there has also been the times when that ship will never log in again. White_0men was a long time Player, HZ Community Member, and Former Staffer. I think it shows how much he touched his community as a human being more than just another ship or player by their response to his death. The thread continues to grow with condolences, and people giving their stories and accounts of him. The HZ Community has even setup a Memorial Fund for his family to show that he meant a lot to their community, and they knew him as more than just another player. A senseless act of violence took another person's life. Even though the news story comments are controversial due to his job, he was a good person, always one to say Hi, and talk for a while. Noone deserves to die the way he did, regardless of anyone's personal beliefs. If you would like to join the HZ Community in showing his family your support, you can paypal donations C/O BlueGoku to: devoit@gmail.com Thanks.
  24. Might be some interest. That or modifying the server to work with our client or a multi functional client. Could be very interesting. I know a few people I may pass this onto.
  25. Been busy this weekend. Doing Relay for Life, and working on stuff around the house. I should be back and working on stuff shortly. Just been a lot of projects I have put off saving for the wedding I am now working on. Please let your friends, squadmates, etc. know what is going on around SSGN, as the more who visit, the more push it gives me to try and find time. Also, if you'd like to donate to the cause: http://main.acsevents.org/goto/scottbinford
