After all the scans, nothing really turned up. Ran a couple different virus scanners (1 normal, and 1 deep scan), and an adaware scan. Then had Microsoft's program go over it again for the hell of it and the worst that turned up was 1 popup ad. Otherwise all that was ever detected was a few "trojans" in the update files from a recent java update. Trying to remember if anyone else ever had the password to the ftp. It used that user, though I deleted 2 other ftp accounts I setup for Sama and Mav to be safe. Baffeling... How was php a cause of this? edit: Guess I didn't state this was all done through ftp, so assuming you thought it was a php injection exploit.

Started thinkin that was possible. It had been a while since I last logged in (Feb 09th according to log). Searching through the log though, noone else but me had logged in through that account until this. So wasn't even a "lets see if this works". edit: Scannin the hell out of my computer right now, and changing 1 other ftp login I had used in the past months.

Well, tbh, not even a clue how they got in. The password for SSGN (ssgn.net domain and subdomains, and no that is not the actual username) is used NOWHERE else, and had numbers, chars, and special chars. Made the pass 10x harder now, and a lot longer. But brute force was on, so I dunno how they got in yet. Root reported no logins, server reported no brute force attempts, etc. But it seemed to be a bot moving through the ftp editing all index.* and login.*/auth.* type files. It'd add an iframe line, and knew the difference between html and php in how it added it and where it added it. The ip was 67.61.120.63 and located in Texarkana Arkansas. Soon as I changed the pass, the server locked it out for "brute force attempts" for having incorrect login. All should be good for now. Will keep you updated on what I find. Edit: I still haven't fixed Smong's site (toktok) or Quotes site. Will work on those tomorrow. FTP log shows they were only other subdomains hit besides Forums, Files, and Ticket sites.

Well, that could be done by the title.dat as I mentioned before I posted this thread when discussing in game. But the flaw there is updating all the downloads, and then you have to fix all the continuum references already out there, etc. It is a swampy mess we've got ourselves in. Definately something I need to add into the guide/help pages I am working on.

True, but people have CHOICES to use those. You can still use AIM, and new users to AIM are pointed to AIM. New users either see SubSpace everywhere and told to download Continuum, or they download Continuum and suddenly find themselves seeing everything called SubSpace. They can't download SubSpace to play SubSpace. I'm for either or. But I had a feeling as is the problem many times in this game, noone would want to let go of the old ways. Kinda like the old council and SSC zone access, eh?

Mind naming a few other games? Just curious.

This is a topic noone has brought up for years now. So here I am bringing it up again. Talking to some new players the other day (1-2yrs), and they honestly had NO clue what SubSpace was. They thought it was just the server, and the game was called Continuum not SubSpace. One of them knew it had been a client, but didn't know why we still called the game SubSpace. He said most people he plays with call it Continuum. So it got me thinking... are we confusing our new players by telling them to download a game called Continuum, and then continuing to call everything SubSpace. We've now used Continuum longer than we ever did SubSpace. Is it time we honestly embrace what we really are, and try to make something of it? We always think "we'll find people who remember SubSpace", but maybe we need to search for people who remember "Continuum" instead. We do get a lot of hits from people searching for Continuum, and more clicks on "continuum" than "subspace". We gotta do something to begin moving forward, and stop living in our current state of decay. Maybe it is worth thinking about dropping the possible confusion factor, and calling this Continuum not SubSpace. Mm?

the need to change greening - Now: How to keep new players
PoLiX replied to fresh's topic in Chaos / League Zone Archive
Could always make it like the freq size, hybrid to the population. As population goes up, initial bounty goes down. Could even have it done at the same time the frequency size changes. Definately something to think about. -
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/115/1155622p1.html On a side note, got tons of co-workers over there right now on 2 naval bases (uncle just got back 3 weeks ago) and they've been sending us video links, e-mails, updates, etc. Might share some of it later. Edit: for the live event page visit http://au.ps3.ign.com/articles/115/1155625p1.html

If your Continuum folder is in C:\Program Files\ this is your problem. It doesn't have permissions to overwrite the map file. You can either move Continuum or delete the map file. Might be able to change permissions on the folder, but dunno.

Wanna find all the ones I can. So start linking away gentlemen

The server you're posting on right now has access to the SSC biller. Only reason I ask about nix.
-
happen to have a proxy that will run on linux brain? (just another situation)

It will be moving. Hoch pays for the current Server, Argyle just admins it. I helped Argyle find a cheaper server in the same datacenter as TW/EG/SSCX and during a huge sale at that. So DSB will now be on the east coast. He's planning to move it once the SSC firewall has the IP whitelisted. So should be no worries about DSB shutting down.
-
Hoch has stepped down as BanG Admin, so doubtful he will return.

Seems it was a ban on an entire subnet and your IP is now in it. I'll banfree your name and have the local bang op look into it.

I know it is like saying the zone is a lost cause maybe to you guys, but it is possible to put it up in Chaos with the other zones as a sub-arena that can be hosted from time to time. Warzone's former players have found this a great thing as they do it weekly after premier matches and easily get some good sized games going like the old days. You'd have not only old ASWZ players, but possibly some new people interested in it. Just a thought. Saw this forum had been dead for some time, so figured I might help ya spark some interest again.

He is just banned from the zone, not the game.

EG Has: ?go tw and ?go chaos that I know of. TW Has: ?go chaos, ?go eg, and ?go scrabble (EG) that I know of Chaos Has: ?go tw, forget if we added ?go eg They are there. The downside to ?go is that the zone you ?go into is then downloaded into the previous zone. IE: ?go tw from Chaos will download anything you visit in TW to the SSCX Chaos/League Zone SVS folder. So that does cause some headaches with redownloading everything. Also iirc SSCE zones & Powerball can only do it 1 way. I think they can send, but not be sent to.
-
You sound like the guys who think all the smaller zones should combine into 1 and there be only like 5-6 zones. The issue: Newbs don't judge a zone by its sub-arenas. They go into a zone, look at the main arena, play it, if it sucks, they leave. Very few newbs know about ?arena/esc+a (and don't say you did, cause your full of shit) for quite some time. They will see "?go event" and follow it, but that takes some effort even to get them all. So all you're going to do is chase more new players away as they might not find a zone they like. Diversity of zones does help to a point.

Wanted to post before the flaming and fighting begins. Won't work in this game as everything is seperate zones and player run. Can work in a corporate world, because they run everything and don't care.

https://services.google.com/fb/forms/cr48advanced/ Surprisingly buddy of mine got one of these and he doesn't really use a computer much. I put my application in and will see what happens. I just thought I'd share the information as I hadn't seen it posted here yet.

Yeah. DSB and TW use to be the 2 biggest. Then EG caught up and made it a 3-way before TW ran off. Then it was just DSB and EG before EG pulled away too. Some reason the 2001 boom didn't help DSB. Though it always came close to TW during Euro times. And unlike many zones, DSB actually has staff who have been staff for more than 10yrs.

Also the only program I can find in the ssdl files, doesn't work, haha. So might be the best bet TBH.

Cerium had a web version one that worked, lemme see if I can dig up the link.
