http://www.subspace.co/c/network/ http://www.subspace.co/c/network/test.php Pulled up an old task list, and this was the first thing I outlined. So working on it when I have a few free minutes. Still a lot of work to go, but just a progress update.

handled in game. all restored. enjoy. -
Well, what would you link to facebook? Player's Guide or Player Scores wouldn't fit. And SSDownloads.com could link to our download section I guess. Unless Testtube ever gets it back up again.

$12/hr? There is one of the misconceptions. I am not even a full journeyman yet, and I make $22/hr (~$33/hr full journeyman). My dad an electrician makes $46/hr and my father-in-law a carpenter is making $32/hr. Over at Boeing they make even more than we do in my trade and many others. Even most Mom and Pop shops will pay ~18/hr to a typical journeyman worker. Granted, yes, it all depends on where you live. But in comparison, my cousin is a programmer making only $13/hr. And a friend of my brother in law works for google for $16/hr, which he says is pretty good for his department (forget what he does, something backend).

In reality, it is a quick e-mail to Priit to change em. Just haven't had anything to change them to just yet.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NwEFVUb-u0 Sad but true. We know we're becoming a rare breed when we hold job fairs and see how few people have any trade skills, or understanding of the trades anymore. Turn off your spyware/adware/anti virus and see if it allows it to run.

Waiting on a couple more donations offered, then will close this up and see where we sit.

Then save us all some time and leave this game and these forums.

You might try OpenDNS and see if you get any improvements. I'm just baffled by the fact of how many hops it is doing just around your city. I mean, it could just be because you are connecting across the atlantic so it is having to connect to london's international routers, but still.

To those who already have passed into 2012, Happy New Year! And to those who will by the end of the day (duh), Happy New Year!

Welcome to why your ISP is one of the biggest complained about in all of the UK. Don't take this wrong, just literally I know only about TalkTalk from connection problems/complaints on other forums, and someone posted stats that it was well above 2nd place in complaints. Looking at 1 reason... your 8th hop you posted on MG's forums hasn't even left London yet. It is taking 8 hops just to move around the dang city, if not more. This sadly, is one of those times where it will probably turn out to be the ISP itself. Sorry can't give you any other solutions than that. Do you have these issues with any other games with US servers?

Try turning off your windows firewall and see what happens. If it works, then the exception in the firewall is not set correctly. If you have a firewall on your router, you will be fine with the windows firewall off. Not saying you have to keep it off, but for testing just piece of mind for some people.

Spent some more time optimizing apache for what we actually use. When we moved servers it seems php4 was still installed amongst other modules we didn't use. Won't notice too much of an effect on the user end, but server will be much happier. IP.Content again is updating with a feature better than the idea I had for the actual content pages. The ability to control the menus and submenus without having to "hack" the skin template and trick it into working properly with extra menu items (as it does with "About Continuum" right now). I think waiting for a feature that can't be accidently broken if someone rebuilds the skin database wrong would be the best move. I am still working on the content itself, just it won't be linked just yet. As I joked before... always waiting on IPB Hoping to see more tutorials move over, and reinstalling the old "Files.SSGN.net" so I can retrieve the last of the files from there and move them to the new downloads section. I am trying to work with a few people to get things rolling on that section, but so far nothing good. People want to help, but when you tell them the work needed done they pretty much run away. Oh well. As always thanks for the support, big thanks to any donators, and if you'd like to help lemme know. Looking for people to rebuild a file respository atm. Or atleast get the ball rolling.

Hyperspace population inflation must be stopped
PoLiX replied to Static Burn's topic in General Discussion
They have been looked at and discussed, but noone has the time to do it 2 or 3 times. Each zone runs a different bot core (and all have bot hosting issues as is). This is simpler, it works, and everything is done. It has a bug, sure, but everything could have some minor bug or issue. Everyone just likes how it functions right now, knows how it functions right now, and uses it how it functions right now. TBH dunno why everyone cares about the pop issues so much. What HS is doing doesn't bother me, and we actually had a good laugh about it when it was first done. I know I for one don't care about the population in other zones, and really even the population in Chaos or EG. I just care how many people are playing when I get in, and the zone pop is never a good figure of that anymore. -
Hyperspace population inflation must be stopped

You also have to be honest and admit that you're gaining at most 5 seconds over esc+q, [down arrow], [enter]. I'm sure people find this arena sharing useful, but it's also very obvious that it's being done to boost population. I believe ways to get around the issue that don't need subgame binary "access" have already been proposed, so why haven't the "people in charge" in TW/EG/etc done anything? Maybe because they're rather happy with the inflated population? Except I can't monitor what arenas are open from being on the main screen. The system is dynamic, not static. Sure I could leave, goto eg, esc+a, nothing going on, go back to chaos. Or I just do esc+a and see if anything is going on. I like it, many players like it. As for the other way, a directory client can't be done - Priit has blocked the SSCU/SSCX zones he hosts from connecting to directory servers (or oversight on ever caring to open it). Only ports he opened were the ones needed for the zones. After many attempts and requests, he still hasn't opened the ports for the zones to connect to other directory servers. It is simple to fix it, and Priit has been notified of the issue and fix. Last time something bugged out, and we told him the fix, we had it sorted out within days. This time he is being slow about it. Dunno if it is because he no longer has the current source to the old fix with the tweaks he has done to TW, or what. If you'd remember, DSB applied their hacked fix.dll to fix this problem, and the other zones would follow suit if we could. -

Or maybe perhaps since the bug does have the side effect of giving the other zones an inflated population, PB felt it wasn't fair that their pop should inflate those zones? Not right, but seriously, everyone would rather look at this being the motive, and not the true motive of the people originally behind the idea. The fact we wanted to share our population, and allow our players the ability to hop around the zones just by the arena list. Something many (including myself when I don't login as sysop) use and enjoy on a daily basis. So nice to see when EG is running an event I enjoy, and I'll hop over there to play it, and then back to chaos pub to continue where I left off. -
yeah, only works in Google Chrome. For me atleast.

Inserted all "Frequently Asked Questions" into the Tutorials Section. Also turned off Spider Logs. Dunno why it turned on again, but was really hogging down the mysql server at times, and the table was nearing 150mb. Forum DB down from 400mb to 250mb now.

Gotta give em credit, they always think of something unique, mhmm. http://www.google.com/

Quite a few old projects and games, a p2p backbone, and skype. Dunno what else, never have dug up. Skype made him all his money.

I will say this, I play detective more than I really should comparing multiple names, mids, ips etc. to match names. Sometimes I'll go through a list of someone's aliases just to find a matching bit of data on it that matches their name, or another name that then has data that matches their name. I'll trace IPs, dig through alias dbs, check multiple different spellings (this is a case many times... one in particular, I ended up having to show the guy info I was not suppose to just to prove to him the name spelt wrong was actually his), etc. The old ops / system. If login info, and registration didn't match, you're done. Our system is to try and match and dig for anything we can. But as with the old system, we have been burned by trusting word of mouth, and so we learned quickly not to and wrote that in our rules.

Every year the navy shuts down our shipyard for a week, and well next week is that week. So I'll be home, and between painting the baby's room, assembling the crib and stuff, I'll be trying to do some work here on the site. Got a few ideas for the actual content section, but as far as the downloads and tutorials, need some help there. As always some people stepped up, I told them what they need to do, and nothing happened. Sadly with the downloads section I really had high hopes, and honestly dunno what happened to Xog. Hope he is alright. I wanna make this next week really productive, so hopefully will make some leaps and bounds. On a serious note... Pastebin & Twitter feed. Anyone actually see a use for them? Or am I just wasting space at the top of the site. Please lemme know.

Quite a bit more than 6 yrs ago he created it, and played on it for quite a few years too.
