  1. Setting up your own zone is the only alternative. The two downsides to that are 1) You can't test DEVA's settings in the map, 2) It's harder to get people to help you test out, play, and debug the map.
  2. A firewall may be blocking Continuum from accessing the directory servers (yes, including windows' built-in firewall might be blocking it). So you should try disabling them. Also, the only actual valid directory servers are " sscentral.sscuservers.net ssdir.playsubspace.com " So you can get rid of the rest of that jumble. Third explanation is that the directory server went offline at the time you tried. Alternatively re-order the directory server list to " ssdir.playsubspace.com sscentral.sscuservers.net ". (and yes, order does make a difference)
  3. It's been since Wednesday that the dollar has been quasi-breaking the line, but it's now pretty official, the Canadian $ > US $ 1$CA = 1.00054$US (so for the number-impaired, 1$ca=1$us give or take a few 0.0001s) It had to be said
  4. False. Tasers, just as much as stun guns, can be lethal to anyone, with or without heart conditions. If anything, in every reported death by taser, the person involved had different conditions (drugs, schizophrenia, seizure, tumor - and the most number of deaths: no health or mental problems whatsoever). What else kills people? The fact that they're tasered over a minute, or over 12 times. Prisons in the US especially have seen the highest rise in the number of deaths (one reported 15 deaths between 2000-2005) But whether it's 1, 2, or 12 times, or done from 1-120 seconds, tasers can kill more easily than batons can. Is time really wasted when you put on the cuffs compared to a death? You can't predict how every human body will react to the shock.
  5. Seriously? Halloween is October 31st. - Well, shouldn't be too surprised, you've never eaten bacon before! (Halloween's basically all about scaring people, pumpkins, and running door to door asking for candy)
  6. Try uninstalling, and run a registry cleaner. After that, do a fresh install from here. Also, make sure you install it under a user with administrator rights.
  7. For those wanting to see a different perspective, and what happened thereafter. He was being taken away for allegedly 'starting a riot'. It's not only about the freedom of speech, but it's the fact that when they were removing him without actually telling him why he was being arrested at first. It also looks worse for the police when Kerry was asking the police to stop, and so were other students which were wondering why he was being arrested. There was an excessive force used in my opinion. You needn't taser someone when you have 6 cops already over the student. - Yes the student was a !@#$%^&* once he decided to resist at one point, and not tell his personal information later on. - But asides that, the point is that we live in a democratic world. Where the main foundation is "freedom of speech", which also means allowing others to speak freely (even if the remark at hand is stupid) unless it impedes on another fundamental right (which it wasn't). Kerry later made this response: 7NWukZhsiBwhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NWukZhsiBw
  8. Just do like we did for the Christmas map; change some things on the map, and make the bases look Halloween-themed. If you decide to change a lot of things (gfx, sfx...), it might be a lot more work than you expect. But whatever you do, don't make the zone look completely foreign
  9. You know what else!? BOTH their names start with the letter A!
  10. Gotta say, that's a pretty insane poster... that, along with the VIE poster. But for my printer? I wouldn't bother using it.
  11. This is from Pirates; showing the possible use of red, green, yellow, and grey [this being a color unused by regular chat]. I'm no expert on ASSS, so I can't say how it was done.
  12. You rarely play in Devastation, which does not give you the right to backtalk to any staff members and request they be removed over one tirade. Criticism is tolerable, but personal attacks and racism is not. - As for what Shad0ws does, it's his choice and not yours to make. I'll say what I said to Gibbit; everyone makes mistakes, don't quit over it.
  13. Reminder: Eight more days! No one has requested the duels be post-poned, so I assume you can make it on time. Organize your duel with your partner, if you don't, you'll be eliminated. This is your quasi last warning.
  14. Ok, since I haven't been in Deva a while now, due to school & work (my appoligies), I'll offer my third-party opinion. 1) Shad0ws, being a staff member means you shouldn't swear towards another player, even more so through pm's. (though I'm not saying we should ban swearing, some contexts are a-ok) 2) X`terrania is a player, but no matter who it is, staff should not have to accept personal attacks. Racism, swearing, etc. 3) If there's a problem between player-staff, use *warn command (which was done) 4) X`terrania should not criticize staff warnings; warnings should not be taken lightly, we're a clean zone, and let's keep it that way. 5) Rasta, a staff member, should neither tolerate racism. Laserman shouldn't write racist comments. You asked for my opinion, and this is how I see it. I cannot judge the context, or what was your first motive for pm'ing X`terrania "stfu noob/!@#$%^&*". Here's my 2 cents for future reference though: Even if it's not the golden rule of Deva, it's common sense.
  15. They by default can't be used for chat, unless you replace the font colors around. However, it is possible through ASSS (Smong's Pirate zone used various colors for server generated chat) but players can't themselves access colors other than default chat types.
  16. http://img394.imageshack.us/img394/1285/stupidrootbearpy7.png Problem solved!
  17. Try Continuum 0.40. Else: Advanced options -> Software Emulation (check this)
  18. You've gotta admit, Drake had it coming
  19. It marks the turning point of the millenium; It's sad that such an act had to happen, and the actions that have followed and are still following the event are worse. But today's the day of the first event, not the latter. And to answer Rasta's question, yes I do believe it was the result of the governments from both sides.
  20. UNDERBAR! -ahem- Well, he's been missing since his birthday, or at least a day before... So my vote's on the "busy with life and gf" issue; that, and/or he's gone mad over alcohol and drugs ever since his horrible hangover...
  21. Do you have any time to work on it at all Hallowed?
  22. When it's e-mails that don't particularly address you in any way, and are just bull!@#$%^&*ting about a feud between two zones, 14 e-mails in two days is definitely spam. Do you need a definition of spam? Anyhow, the best solution would be better security to the forums, and an IP block on Fox-1.
  23. It wasn't completely removed, it was redirected to a worse website before the new client (ssbase - though whichever is worse doesn't matter, since subspace.net itself was a redirect to getcontinuum, which is where it should be properly redirected). And subspace.net is still written in both subgame and the ssc biller, so it's nice that when noobies get error messages that tell them to visit subspace.net, they'll be pointed in the right direction. Yes, but we stopped relying on it, and subspace.net was removed as a link from most [subspace related] websites and the client (as freakmonger pointed out).
  24. NEVER!
