The issues you describe about continuum are specific to your machine, and not a bug in the client. The link thing is a new one that I'll try, but the rest of your descriptions sound like they are caused by something else, probably multiple other things. As far as the chat window thing, that means something is stealing focus, most likely spyware or adware, maybe a messenger service like msn or yahoo. When you alt-tab, your PC stutters for a sec which prevents it from updating your position in the game. You end up being slingshot out of orbit.

Yes, tiles follow a specific color palette in 256 color. It's possible that the zone you saw used lvz's to create the effect you described.

Perhaps that one server you want to play is having some temporary problems. Or maybe any of the routers between you and it are having problems. Probably temporary.

The threshold for lagouts is a setting for each server. I would guess that the servers you are trying have strict lag settings and therefore the spike you keep getting will lag you out. Close any messengerr services and anything else you find running in the background (system tray or cntl-alt-del.) Eventually you will figure out what is causing the spike, through trail and error, by closing those background apps.
