Lone Outlaw and Aquarius hired. It will be a bit of touch and go and testing as I have never played with moderators of the download script before. You guys have the ability to do most needed operations except delete files for the time being. Lemme know if any questions... Moving this to News, Feedback, and Support for further discussion.
-
Lookin for a couple people interested in moderating the download section. Mostly just need to watch for new submissions (mod cp has a simple function for doing this), and maybe upload some files as you have time to. Simple job really.
-
I could add some moderators to the files section, which may help with the issue. I'll bug Gal about it.
-
Problem is the only way to do this is to allow the group to bypass moderation afaik. I'll look more into it, but it'd open a bigger can of worms.
-
Yea, I was going to message you about that, but had to run to the store and stuff. After I totally forgot about it, hah, sorry. Thanks for fixing it man.
-
Yep, because SSC Billing is a dictatorship, and all the others who also voted no on your approval didn't count.

Since was e-mailed about this... One issue I saw when looking into Greenlight was they want actively updated games, that or the game was to be submitted by the developer. It may have changed since, though a lot about greenlight has changed quickly with it actually costing to submit a game now and all. I would say getting behind one of the new client projects, and promoting it is your guys' best hope here. They also would like to see features from the Steam client added into the game using their SDK for their Steam Community. This isn't a requirement from what I have seen yet, but I have noticed some non-valve developed games have this function in them. This is where Priit would come in without question, and where there would probably be some issues with the way Continuum's in game communications work. Now just being listed and nothing more is an obvious option (and probably all it turns out to be), but with Valve, I don't always trust this is all they ever expect. Finally... Continuum has had issues for many people (myself included back on XP) with being launched by Steam. Not a huge amount of research was put into why, but I do remember the most likely assumed one was Continuum's packing security keeping external programs from opening it. But hey, I'm not involved anymore. So someone else can try pursuing it. Things change, so could be a good chance right now. Edit: I'd be more than happy to add anyone to the steam group as admin who is willing to keep it updated. Just message me on steam: http://www.steamcommunity.com/id/pressured/

14 Years... Almost seems sad when you think I am 27 years old and that is more than half my life. Played this game on my friend’s dad’s computer, but never really got highly involved in it. Did get my own copy, but didn’t have the internet at the time on my parent’s computer so never played it. 12 Years... My cousin talked me into downloading SubSpace. Tried it, looked familiar to a game I remembered, but Quake2 was more fun. (Sorry Trench Wars). Tried out SCF West again a few months later when my cousin had moved there, and I was hooked. Eventually clicked on a zone I swore I recognized, but found it to be so much different (later learning how much SSX !EXTREME GAMES! had changed). But alas, I was hooked. Few months later I created “PoLiX” to work with new players and created a squad with another player. Lots of squads and history there… 11 Years… I found SSCentral.com while browsing SubSpace websites. It looked like it needed some help, so I hired on. Quickly I found myself helping update/add content, and even doing a whole redesign of the site. T-Man made me an admin of the site, and off I went changing the layout, updating the pages and scripts, and even managing hosting of zones and squads. 10 Years… Rowen and I decided to create a new central forum system to compete with ForumHQ. We dubbed it SSForum.net and it took off like a rocket. Still to this day I think it was highly successful and serves a valuable purpose in this community. 8 Years… Living far from family and friends, working overnight with very little sleep, and breaking up with my only connection to life (girlfriend) I decided to move back home as find a new job. But I had become so entangled in things SubSpace (Staff in zones, developer, programmer, website admin, etc. etc.) I knew I wouldn’t be able to dedicate the time I had before. I began trying to quit but people literally just wouldn’t let me and I felt more and more work was piling on. The only choice I had was to jump on the offer to sell SSForum.net to SA>SwiftAttack (swift) and then get myself net-banned. I know it sounds dumb, but it was the only logical way I felt I had left. 6 Years… Swift said he needed some help with the forums and websites, so I stepped back in and offered to help out. Little did I know this would begin my return to the game and a community of sysops who were highly against me being involved again. Luckily the sysops who really mattered in the long run accepted me back, and we worked together on various projects to enhance the community again. 5 Years… Ghost Ship messages me the constant bugging and spamming of Priit has paid off. He was going to send us Continuum .39 Final Beta to be tested. Being SSForum had the most active technical support, he figured we’d be the best to control it. We ran closed for a bit, and then Ghost gave the ok to pass it out publicly. So began a large divide in the community as some sysops were outraged the council had not been given 1st access. Luckily these sysops were all gone very shortly anyways. Well .39 worked out well, but due to a bug in Subgame, it was decided to rename it to 0.40 Final. This will honestly probably be the last version of Continuum. Sorry folks… 3 Years… Ghost Ship gives me Level 1 Netwide BanG to help the smaller zones without Level 1 ops manage net-bans, set net-bans, and manage their Level 2 ops (I would later fix this giving almost all zones a Level 1 Operator of some nature). I then ran into an issue with a player in TW stealing names, and this thrusted me into the next spotlight. To help manage the issue Ghost Ship gave me billing op, removing the previously inactive ones. I was then told Mom would be my partner, and we began trying to keep tickets actively managed and help players retrieve their lost/stolen aliases. 1 Year or so… After finding out my Wife was pregnant, I decided it was time to make my move out of SubSpace. I 1st wanted to make sure SubSpace had a decent domain name for me to leave it with. I had heared of .co domains, and jumped on SubSpace.co after seeing Continuum.co snatched quickly. I also recommended that a new BanG Admin be hired, and the trust I had begun to have in SpaceHiker made me feel he’d be a fitting replacement. I was working both as a BanG Admin and a Billing Operator (Mom as primary), which was something previously “Not Allowed” and knew it had to be someone trustworthy and level headed that’d be accepted to continue that. So as far as SSC goes, you are being left in very capable hands with Mom and SpaceHiker. We have also added Dav & Ratio/The Junky to the team not long ago. I began an admin search here in order to find my replacement. I had not had much success (though my admins have always been great) in finding someone with the knowledge and time to take over. Gallitin had offered before, and I figured “Why Not?”. He had proved valuable, level headed, and knows IPB very well. I believe he will keep the site running, and assist the community as needed. I will hang around for a bit to help him get acquainted as needed, and to transfer over what needs transferring. I am very confident though that you won’t notice much change in how things operate around here, though you may see improvements and projects I failed to complete completed. So… Long winded, sure. But I could type LOTS more. God knows I somehow did a lot for this game over a rather short period of time. I carried a lot of my experience, and the leadership skills I developed here into my careers. Currently am in line to take over as Trade Instructor and Work Leader for my trade. Many have asked what I do for a living, and it is very hard to explain without explaining things I cannot. But the simplest terms of it is I work for the DoD's NAVSEA Division, where we design and build specialized tooling to do repairs/upgrades on US Navy vessels (nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers to be precise). My main role in this is designing, and grinding the cutters used in these machines and the machining of them (IE: Tool & Cutter Grinder). I was hired to be a Toolmaker Machinist, but found my love on the other end of the shop. Might be the ability to use CNC Machines, but really is only part of it. I get to teach people every day, and help them learn a whole different part of our Toolmaking trade they don’t always get to on the outside. Well, I enjoyed my time here. I won’t be 100% gone, but I won’t be actively contributing to the community anymore. I hope I leave you all in good hands. As we say, “Fair Winds and Following Seas”… Or is that "Fair Solar Winds and Following Open Space"... Oh well

Thanks for caring. Going to take a week or so to get everything turned over both in game and out. But this has been a decision I made well over a year ago (SpaceHiker was my personally planned replacement from the 1st time I suggested him). I just promised myself that if my SS responsibilities ever felt like a 2nd job, I would step down. I don't feel like I enjoy this game anymore, and my free time needs to be spent on my other hobbies that do bring me happiness (and of course my daughter). I'll probably type something up, as I knew I couldn't get out of her quietly. But I don't really wish to make it some big deal.

Hanging up my SS Hat folks... More to come. P.S. Gallitin taking over SubSpace.co operations.

There is lots of cheating, though your average player never notices it. Bots and Staff have been pretty quick to handle them, and we've gotten pretty good at locking them out of the game (thanks to there being active access to lvl0 bang for net-bans). People also just haven't cared to spread how they cheated, or a program to do so. Some have even turned to attempting to help solve/point out the exploits, and unlike some in the past we have listened to them to keep from having another catid-like episode. We can't be nieve enough to believe computers, programs, and cheating techniques are still locked circa 2007. The game is still very vulnerable, but as previously stated, has dwindled to the point most don't feel it is worth their time to cheat.

It is coming to an end I think. Or atleast my activity in game is/will be. TBH I barely login anymore, which may be part of my issue with keeping things going. I recently thought I just needed to motivate myself, tried and tried, but failed. But then a buddy of mine needed some help with some stuff for his site/work, and I whipped him out some graphics and simple code in a couple days without issue. So really isn't my lacking, but the lack of drive this community gives to you anymore. But on a more positive note, with the population bug being gone, can see our population has barely dwindled since before it started. As much as it feels otherwise sometimes.

There is no server setting for a delayed turn off of antiwarp. There is just the ability to disable it when someone enters safe in the server.ini but no delay. The bots can't just turn your antiwarp off, but they can unprize and reprize it to give the effect that they did, but you would have seen that. This is either an undocumented client side bug/feature, or the previous line is true and you didn't notice. Edit: Tested this and after ~2.5mins the bot(s) removed my anti and re-added it. I say bot(s) as it was unprized, prized, unprized, and prized again.

My how things have changed. 10 years ago when we first cracked the idea of a new central forum system to compete with SubSpace Headquarters' ForumHQ this game was on a comeback, web traffic to the sites was insane, and the community was active and involved. SSForum was a 2am idea (as I use to call them, 5am for rowen) me and rowen came up with. It actually took a few weeks of discussion, talking with CybeRise and other people to decide to pull the trigger. Until that time, SubSpace.net had gone from having their own forums, to having sub-forums on GameAddict's forums, to using SSCentral.com's forums, and then back to their own. SSCentral.com hopped between ForumHQ and their own forums a couple times before landing on keeping their own up and running (using this very same forum script). SubSpaceDownloads.com never really had a forum after SSNet hopped around a few times, and so players lacked a connection to the site. September 1st, 2002 SSForum.net was launched. It used a pirated copy of vBulletin, was co-admined by Cybe, Rowen, and myself, along with quickly having 100+ active members at any given time. A lot of ups and downs have happened through the history of the forums from changing to SSCentral's forums after SSNet dissapeared, to becoming the face of the last running general community site. I'd like to thank everyone and anyone involved over the years, especially the former admins, super moderators, and moderators. All I got for now. Note: SSForum.net is expired atm, but going to get it fixed.

I'll see if I can get Priit's ear on this. Honestly, without him, we can't resolve the issues continuum has loading with steam for some people.
-
have you tried downloading the zip and just extracting it somewhere and running that?
-
There is actually a couple ways to do it, but if you message me in game I'd be glad to explain. Not really a flaw, as much as a quick patch to a problem. Benefit is that the triggers happen so rarely, and some require staff powers that your average person doesn't know them. But hey, we have the ability to create solutions, just noone has the time.

Usage isn't the real key to this equation. And to add onto the reply to brain, it is because the data that is a big key to it all can only be seen by billing ops anyways. Players can control it to some extent, but noone but ops can see it. Their knowledge of the ability could also cause some big issues for the biller, as it has been known to cause the biller to kick zones offline in the past when players manipulated it. It use to be more public knowledge, but most who knew, are long gone. Not all ops are aware of it either, which could be a good thing when some in the past were more than willing to abuse the billing system for monetary gain amongst other things. Let the head scratching continue.

^ Partially correct. What part is the real question.

Read the building.txt, and seems it would be Discretion.exe, my bad. Do you get any errors when compiling? As Samapico said, either for some odd reason it ended up somewhere else or it didn't compile correctly.
-
Except when action was threatened against all the zones, you threatened to shutdown hyperspace in retaliation?
-
That is because it won't be a .exe
-
For billing IP in the server.ini set it to localhost
-
You need to manually add the zone, you cannot connect to your own IP. Under the "Zones" menu, click "Add Custom..." For Zone put in "Local Zone" For IP Address: put in "127.0.0.1" For Port: put in the zone's port Click "OK" The zone should now be on your list as "Local Zone" and you should be able to connect to it and play.
