Hope everyone has a great time spent with their family and friends. Few bullet points: I have had a lot of thanks for restoring the forums, so I am glad people enjoy reading the history stored here. I did some cleaning up and condensing, along with cleaning up the database. There is still an issue with post downloads I need to work out. That will come in time. As I said in another post, I will be working on restoring more sites over the next couple of months. It is all for nostalgia. I may return to the wiki idea many requested, giving us our own place to record history and knowledge. Time will tell. Again, enjoy yourselves and see you next year.

Going to start getting back to things around here. IPB wants $200 for the forum license and upgrades, so guess I'll give them that soon. If any zones need hosting, I have lots of room on the server. I can also merge forums into SSForum if they wish to keep an archive going. This only costs me ~$31/mo, so I don't even notice it on the credit card bill.

Just wanted to say I haven't forgotten about things here... just with the Government shutdown my mind has been elsewhere. Being excepted I still have to work for IOUs. Financially sitting ok for a few more months, but just been trying to work on physical things around the house to distract my mind. Got people on my crew not as financially comfortable, so working to try and help them all day. Just drains me mentally by the time I get home and I don't want to look at the computer screen anymore, hah. Will get back to things soon.

Just wanted to follow up. The quotes database didn't seem to restore correctly. Trying to go through all the sql to see where the error is.

23yrs ago this month a random idea turned into these forums... It may have been nostalgia that drove me to bring them back after all the requests, but I don't ever regret starting them and working with the other web admins that helped. It was a hectic first year that ended in the original forums being crashed and lost due to a pirated vBulletin script, then this databse launched in August of 2003. It has been memorialized in my signature for years... Crazy to look at my 13yr old daughter and think I helped start/work on so many website projects at her age. I was just 17yrs old when SubSpace.net, SubSpaceDownloads.com, and SSCentral.com came together to launch SSForum.net. Now I sit here tonight at 40yrs old feeling a bit nostalgic about it all.

Glad someone it. I felt bad, but just trying to get it out there far and wide. Can't seem to get forum software and e-mail server to agree, so they keep erroring at each other, lol. 😂

In what way? There is a lot missing i don't like either. Probably a skin and mods for that though.

I apologize if anyone has been spammed by e-mails. Server has a setting I need to find that is limiting the number of e-mails the forum can send. Only ~400 / 5000 members have received one. If that e-mail brought you back to some nistolgia (as it seems it has), please be understanding as I try to reach the other 4600 people. I won't send another Bulk Mail until I get it all fixed, but you will see another e-mail.

It's been entertaining in Cheese's dev discord server. Everyone bitching about it being VB6, trying to get visual studio working, reading the old code for bugs, ya. I did promise to spend some time this fall converting it to VB.NET like I did some old mervbots and couple other small projects. Will see how it goes 😅

I fixed the Quotes database last night, so will be putting that back up either this evening or tomorrow night. Not sure if the scripting will need work yet, but it is a start. I also have all the pages from sscentral, subspaceonline, ssgn, and subspace.co that I will work on condensing and restoring. Sscentral.com will also be making a comeback. Next I have all the old ssdownloads files, so I will work on restoring them to the downloads section here. I had a lot of them on themmog, so won't be too hard to do. Finally, some of our old subdomains i may bring back too as their creators had a lot of good dev information there. D1st0rt, Smong, and Junky to name a few.

Reading posts in our private forum, I feel less and less guilty about it all. Multiple posts about how the community was just becoming toxic and crap. Luckily, I think most of those individuals have left. Not all, but most.
