  2. If you wouldn't mind, copy and paste your server.ini here. Edit out the passwords of course. But will give us a good idea.
  3. I agree. I forget where I once read it, but it was in the high 60s percent of computer users, that only use a computer to check e-mail and browse the web. They rarely, if ever, play game, and barely use any apps beyond Internet Explorer or Firefox (depending on OS). So really, Google is aimed at a HUGE percentage of the computer base when you get into it. And toss in the fact, 100% of computer users browse the web, they're aimed at everyone. I think it is worth a try on their part.
  4. I'm always signed on msn, 24/7. Just I work during the week and been busy on the weekends lately. But I do get on SS quite a bit to check messages and take care of name issues. Just hit me up and I'll reply when I get to it. I get up ~8 (PST) on the weekends. Check e-mail and ims ~9ish and then go do stuff. So just leave me an IM and be on.
  5. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/ Old one was free, so new one is planned to be. Last I heard from MS it was going to be atleast.
  6. Currently my PC time is going towards SSO development (which is going pretty good if I must say so), and another small project has come my way. It will play a large role in this game, and will be a pretty big central place for players. More info in time, but anyone got a bit to design a basic static website? Will only have 3 maybe 4 pages, and 2 offsite (though part of site) links. Lemme know if you got the time. Thanks.
  7. Wireless? Looks kind of local. Cause its lagging everywhere, though your from asia I am asuming. Or australia.
  8. Sweet
  9. Software Emulation more than 2xed my FPS and fixed all my screen lag issues. Give it a try.
  10. The government barely monitors its own employees on the internet. It also barely monitors its own employees in a lot of secure areas. In the short time I've worked for them on a naval base, I have really begun to believe a lot of the "security" measures they tell us they take are just bs or for show. Also how many times one of the nuclear sub bases has failed security checks, yeah... With how little effort they put towards monitoring us (though we're "more trustworthy") I just don't see them putting so many measures in out in public. Though looking at the stuff countries like Iran and North Korea have done to their people, or even some african nations, i'd say they're closer to big brother than we will ever be in our own lifetimes.
  11. Watch football sometime... There is life beyond video games and movies.
  12. good ol Jibjab.
  13. Me and Mom we're fully announced last night by Ghost. So the Netop(s -depended on time of topic) I didn't list, now you know.
  14. Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, Micheal Jackson, and now Billy Mays.
  15. So then the bot would only be for sysops, as they really are the only stable not constantly removed, and smallest population of staff. Which doesn't solve much of anything. Noone (who'd be given access to) is going to sit around and manage the staff list on a bot with lower access than that... And what if they're not on, some staffer gets fired, and decides to spam up the bot. Or multiple. Or some zones hire staff that I personally wouldn't trust with a empty squirt gun, and you want them to have access to this, expecting them not to abuse it. And then you got all the "Please net-ban this person" bs that'd go on. Personally, I think Hoch and MikeTheNose are doing a great job. And i'll reiterate it again and again until it gets through some of the thick skulls here, but there is nothing they are doing wrong, and there is nothing more we can do. We have pushed bang to its limits with Russ, and even had we net-banned him, he'd just hit disconnect, reconnect, and changed his macid and he's back. Its very simple to do, and he'll just continually do it over and over no matter how many net-bans we place. And the issues with Net-Bans, we have MANY players now getting caught in his net-bans. So net-bans have to be placed more carefully, and it causes more headaches. TW Players just need to continue being informed of what is going on, and informed not to change their password, and no staff or op would EVER request them to do so. What needs help, is we need to add another billing op or 2 just with names access to help players getting tricked or screwed over. BlueGoku doesn't seem to be responding to e-mail much, nor in game much, so I have been taking most of the issues I get under my wing and dishing them out to between Ghost Ship and (Edit: name withholding). In all honesty, this needs to be fixed on the zones level before anything else. As SSO's Support FAQ grows...

  17. Except again, if you read my post, you'd know what cancels them out. Though, keep thinking and wasting time on listing people who'd make good ops. To reiterate for the less literate: Billing Ops handle names, and are typically highly trusted council members, zone hosts, or ssc zone owners/head sysops. BanG Ops handle bans, and as before, are trusted council members or ssc zone owners/head sysops. They are not a tw smod, or a non-ssc server host. Not that I wouldn't trust either of them, but just the reality of the way they've always been chosen, and no doubt always will be chosen.
  18. http://www.invisionpower.com/ also redesigned. Will update to IPB 3.0 and update IP.Downloads shortly. This means in ~2 weeks IPB's new CMS software that will build into the ACP/SSF DB will be released. Which means I may just save SSO for a release on SSForum's 7th B-Day (Sept 1st). I have quite a bit of content started on my local server, so will hopefully be a pretty quick transition and will get everything up and running without much issue. But I think having SSO start on SSF's B-day would be pretty cool. And if you haven't seen the design: http://www.subspaceonline.com/index.php - And also, any ideas for content, feel free to suggest them. I won't promise they will be used, but eh. The Support Section will be VERY extensive. I plan to spend a few weeks even after the release on it. Though I will be 50-50 on availability during some of October (or so I hope to find a house by then). So this will be a big thing for me to complete, but is something I have been wanting to finish for a while. I am already planning some dedicated time to SSO in late july and throughout august, so anyone wanting to help, this will be the key time to get me. The G/f should have her schedule for the rest of the summer soon, and weekends she's working, I'll try to dedicate some time to SSO atleast 1 of those days. Anyways. Will update to IPB 3.0 tomorrow night after I get home from work (~17:00 PST). So if you notice the forum offline, that is why. Though the last update went pretty smoothly (RC1-RC2), I'd rather we be prepared for hiccups.

  21. This topic continues to intrigue me. How little the public seems to know of the rules, how someone gets netop, etc. Lets clarify all of this. The only Network Operators are Ghost Ship and PriitK. There are BanG Operators and there are Billing Operators. Billing / BanG Ops = Zone Head SysOps or Council Members (Except in rare occasions, an ex-head sysop whos still active in the game). So better to start fixing your lists there. The BanG Operators are in charge of nothing more than cleaning up Network Bans, and in rare cases, placing network bans for zones who have no Level 1 ops on. The case of zones having no bang/staff on, is the zone's own fault. If it continues, imho it is a threat to network security, and should be treated as such. BanG Operators do have level 1 Network wide, and can ban in any zone. The Billing Operators have various levels of powers to retrieve names and squads players have lost. There is more data than just your IP or MacID higher level ops can see. So if you are smart, put in the right information when registering your name. VERY few players do this, so this is why you get screwed in the long run. A correct e-mail, and correct personal informaiton can save you a lot of issues. There has been the idea of adding a head sysop or 2 as lvl4 or lvl3 network wide, but it was only discussed and nothing more went beyond that (as far as I know). Quite a few ops aliases are known by zone sysops. It is your zones sysop's job to handle this, not the players job. If you have an issue, goto your zones staff/upper staff. It is the failure of zones and their staffing that is a large problem SS wide right now. I thought it was only in Metal Gear, but I have found this issue all over lately. We had to deal with shit 10x worse back in the days of twister, so don't overreact here. We are honestly dealing with a small problem in comparison to some of the past issues we had with other cheats/security issues. Most of you weren't around for those days, so I understand. But those who were should remember the billing being crashed, zones being crashed, twister, *super cheats, name stealing zones, etc. etc. The problem we have here is zones who created large dbs of info, not coding secure scripting, and leaving security holes open. Now many players have to suffer with this, and for the time being we need to possibly add a few extra Billing Ops (not BanG ops, again, the main part of this is an issue at zone level & zones need to begin solving it), and have them with low level powers just enough to help players with issues. Once things seem to be cleaning up, and all, we should be good. I also think there should be more NOTICES given to players on this. As quite a few we're confused when I posted on ssforum almost 2.5weeks after the event. So I think again, these 2 zones who had the security holes, should have been more focused on alerting their players and cleaning up the mess, than trying to blame people, or trying to chase the person down. Had players been notified to change their passwords (Mass forum pms, news posts, zone ads, etc.), there would be A LOT less players with names compromised right now. Hell, I didn't know anything happened to the TW or Chaos dbs until my name was stolen and I was told what happened. I think that is complete Bullshit, and a failure on the part of these zones to notify the council, their players, and other players. I'm not pointing the finger at anyone person, but the whole zone staffs themselves. Well, I think I typed enough for now.
  22. there has been some changes to ops/not so well known ops/ops I'm not sure are suppose to yet be listed. Ones I can list: BanG - MikeTheNose and Hoch Names/Squads - BlueGoku A few other sysops do have access to billing for names and such, but are not considered regular ops. And a lot of those sysops use aliases, IE: Pointman. Heck, if you checked me, sometimes PoLiX isn't on for a few days, though I get on atleast once a day. And I know Ghost was on more recently than 3 days, but again we're dealing with aliases here. Edit: I also have MTN's and one name/squad op I didn't list's phone numbers. So can text them in case of "emergency" now.
  23. Zones need to fix this also. This isn't just an network upper level issue, it is a network wide issue.
  24. All I'll say in seriousness in this thread (as most of it to me is off the wall, no offense), Ghost will finally be somewhat active again here soon, and wants to chat saturday. So I'll see what I can't do to help discuss/remedy the problems at hand. And no word from priit yet on what we could do about Russ... if I'll ever get a reply, even ghost has been having trouble with replies from him.
