Hoch has stepped down as BanG Admin, so doubtful he will return.

Seems it was a ban on an entire subnet and your IP is now in it. I'll banfree your name and have the local bang op look into it.

I know it is like saying the zone is a lost cause maybe to you guys, but it is possible to put it up in Chaos with the other zones as a sub-arena that can be hosted from time to time. Warzone's former players have found this a great thing as they do it weekly after premier matches and easily get some good sized games going like the old days. You'd have not only old ASWZ players, but possibly some new people interested in it. Just a thought. Saw this forum had been dead for some time, so figured I might help ya spark some interest again.

He is just banned from the zone, not the game.

EG Has: ?go tw and ?go chaos that I know of. TW Has: ?go chaos, ?go eg, and ?go scrabble (EG) that I know of Chaos Has: ?go tw, forget if we added ?go eg They are there. The downside to ?go is that the zone you ?go into is then downloaded into the previous zone. IE: ?go tw from Chaos will download anything you visit in TW to the SSCX Chaos/League Zone SVS folder. So that does cause some headaches with redownloading everything. Also iirc SSCE zones & Powerball can only do it 1 way. I think they can send, but not be sent to.

You sound like the guys who think all the smaller zones should combine into 1 and there be only like 5-6 zones. The issue: Newbs don't judge a zone by its sub-arenas. They go into a zone, look at the main arena, play it, if it sucks, they leave. Very few newbs know about ?arena/esc+a (and don't say you did, cause your full of shit) for quite some time. They will see "?go event" and follow it, but that takes some effort even to get them all. So all you're going to do is chase more new players away as they might not find a zone they like. Diversity of zones does help to a point.

Wanted to post before the flaming and fighting begins. Won't work in this game as everything is seperate zones and player run. Can work in a corporate world, because they run everything and don't care.

https://services.google.com/fb/forms/cr48advanced/ Surprisingly buddy of mine got one of these and he doesn't really use a computer much. I put my application in and will see what happens. I just thought I'd share the information as I hadn't seen it posted here yet.

Yeah. DSB and TW use to be the 2 biggest. Then EG caught up and made it a 3-way before TW ran off. Then it was just DSB and EG before EG pulled away too. Some reason the 2001 boom didn't help DSB. Though it always came close to TW during Euro times. And unlike many zones, DSB actually has staff who have been staff for more than 10yrs.

Also the only program I can find in the ssdl files, doesn't work, haha. So might be the best bet TBH.

Cerium had a web version one that worked, lemme see if I can dig up the link.

Until I have time to talk to the other person involved, I have hidden those posts. This thread isn't here to get people banned, or to fight and harass each other. If you guys want to do that, then GTFO these forums. If they are worried something you posted could cause that, and want it removed, it is to be removed. By doing what you are doing it is causing me and probably most other people to lose interest in this thread. On a side note: Avast, you may want to lay off posting. Because this is now sounding like a "I got banned, fired, and Hoch is an asshole" whiny thread than an actual "DSB SysOp is killing the zone" thread. Unless that is what you are going for, and we just misunderstood the beginning of the thread where it sounded like the later.

If you'd be willing to post as a regular user and tell me who you are, I might be willing to give you space to setup a site for information on such. GetContinuum's Wine page does need updating, but not sure where the guy who managed it has gone. Might be worth starting a section just for Continuum on other OSes like Linux and Mac.

Cleaned out the bickering. Keep the thread on topic, or don't post at all.

The jist I get of all of this is... Hoch goes to shutdown DSB because he wants it to go out in Glory, and doesn't agree the zone is doing fine, even though he never seems to login or be online. Hoch then decides not to after Argyle tries to have him give him the zone / talks him out of it, and SSC threatens to support a new dsb. "Change of Heart" Hoch then, in order to prove us all wrong, allows things to get a bit chaotic, strikes fear into his staff, says his players should have no input in the zone and just accept whatever he wants to give them (while again barely logging in to even know what they want anymore anyways), and lets the zone run itself into the ground. Thus proving us all wrong, and making himself right that the zone was going to die. Just my own summerizing of everything I have read. Not sure it is 100% right or true, but does sound like a real possibility. Greater words never said: "You're fighting with a lawyer, don't you realize you'll never win as he'll never believe he is wrong?" ...

I need to upload it to files site. That is seriously something I need to get going. Working 50+hrs a week is killin my free time lately.

Seems it checks every 2-5mins. It has varied from when I crashed it to when it reported it failed and it was restarting it. Cpanel considers it right now as important of a service as the firewall, apache, mysql, php, etc.
-
Every evening SSGN's server runs a back up of itself. Lately this back up has seemed to cause issues with the directory server wanting to crash and not restart properly. After a bit of searching and reading, I was able to find out how to add it to CPanel's service monitor with auto restart. I purposely crashed it once, and CPanel "automagically" restarted it with no issues. This should now keep "sscentral.com" up and running 24/7/365 (minus DC maintenance downtimes).

The exact numbers you call out sound almost dead on for Metal Gear... are you sure you're not confusing the 2?
-
I agree that it sounds like Cosmic Rift 2.0 not some resurrection. A resurrection would be a new client that worked with what we have now.
-
Um...? DS only ever once broke 80 if that. I think the record pop is actually in the 90s? Reminds me of TW players talking about "The Old days when tw had 1000+ players"

tweaked http://www.ssgn.net/videos.php some. More tweaks and some styling to come to make it a bit more appealing. Will take that style and use it to make some information pages on ships, screen icons, etc. Will be looking to staff things up about that time. edit- 1:PoLiX> http://demo.jdownloads.com/index.php/downloads.html - going to change Files.SSGN.net to this 1:PoLiX> ipb has a plugin for Converge for Joomla 1:Quigybobo> joomla? 1:PoLiX> Converge = script to manage user database of IPB for use in other scripts 1:SD>Big> seems good, lots of info 1:Quigybobo> AHH Cool man 1:PoLiX> Joomla + a nice Downloads extension 1:Quigybobo> looks prety cool 1:PoLiX> will allow Forums login to be used without issue 1:PoLiX> Bajan's script, he fixed a few of the bugs in for us 1:PoLiX> but it is just so... buggy, uncustomizable, and meh 1:PoLiX> like, you can edit all the templates, but you can't combine stuff 1:PoLiX> will take some work to fit it into SSGN's style, but it has the right colors already 1:PoLiX> lol

The issue with 90% of VPS companies... they over fill servers. So before you buy ANYTHING, get a statement from them on how many virtual servers of each package they put on 1 server. Typically when their prices seem too good, it is also because they'll squeeze 20 customers on 1 server with intentions they won't use all their ram, or much of the cpu. Then some points you find it bogging down, running like crap, or having issues. It is overselling with VPS essentially. Knownhost, Wiredtree, Slicehost, Future Hosting, Liquid Web, ServInt, VPSLatch, Linode, & Softlayer are all good VPS hosts to look at. May not get "OMG" deals, but they all have many reliable good reviews.

If web, a VPS is perfectly fine. You're visiting a site on one right now.
