  2. Who's "you guys"? Who is snrrrub? No one that is going to get us a replacement in significantly less time than anyone else, that's for sure, so what was the point of this post? I lol'd. Hakaku: You repeated what I was saying a few posts up, except no one is saying there is any sort of rivalry. What I am saying is that it is inappropriate for a central authority (more like a central advisory really) to do anything at this point, because there is nothing they can really do to make development go faster, and the people working on the project are going to (like it or not) take care of what they want to work on first. jjj: One person will almost certainly be doing the bulk of one client though because it's going to take someone with A B and C (see above) to move past the initial hurdles. Discretion has moved past a lot of the initial hurdles but it still has a long way to go. I don't know about any other client, but I suspect they have more hurdles to clear yet. Many of these hurdles can only be solved by the project leader. You make it sound like all that people have to do is help and work will get done--that is far from the truth, at this point. If this were a professional entity and thus had reliable entities (no one in SS is, not even the most active ones, really), then it would be a different story. MTN: Lack of communication might be an issue!
  3. Really?! I never would have guessed. Thanks for filling me in. The reason why it's a bad thing is that people are already doing work without some obscure body telling them to do so or how to do it (or even worse, getting money involved.) Why would we discourage people to do work at this point by backing one particular (possibly new) project? That is insane and destructive. People already have their own motivations to do this, and their own ideas of how to do it. When a work gets to the point of being able to supercede Continuum only then would it make sense to step in and make some last minute requirements (in terms of must-haves for it to be recognized beyond individual zones.) If we were at a point where no one was making anything and we had to take initiative as a collective game to do it this plan would make sense. You are correct about the requirements, and that many of the major devs in SS have B, but I would not be so sure about A. This is not something that just anyone (even the best of us) can do, because to do it right requires A in excess. The level of design work for the kind of output we're all looking for (extensible is what I said) is daunting at best. Anyone can code something, but the tougher part is engineering a good solution and designing it properly. Which of course requires C in excess. I think the people who demonstrate C are the ones already working and the ones who demonstrate A are the ones who aren't making an inflexible pile of junk. B is inferred from those traits really.
  4. When I was a new player I didn't care that there were zones that had 0-19 population because there were zones that had 20-a lot... I probably didn't even look at the directory list real close because I was joining to play a specific zone others were playing. How many people join this game to play "Continuum" and not a specific zone?
  5. Is this an appeal from the directory janitor? What difference does it make who's on the directory? The major zones are sorted to the top. What does up to date mean? Some zones like not lagging up their player's computers with unnecessary crap. This is not sarcasm, cynicism, or laziness. I'm genuinely concerned about the assumptions being made here.
  6. This thread is funny. Cool story. Let me know when there is one to recommend. Namely it has to be able to do everything Continuum does or replace functionality appropriately. It has to be open source and extensible or we'll be having this conversation again in 10 years. This is not easy, and this is why we do not have a candidate as of yet. Also (alternate interpretation:) I don't hope you expect anyone let alone the council to commission such a thing. That is asking for trouble and if that's what you meant I will explain further. That's partially correct, but in reality it will be a de facto change, because the council will not/should not be forcing zone owners into something they don't want to do. In fact, I have a very strong feeling that Continuum and another client will be in use concurrently for a long time, because you're not going to get anyone to switch overnight. This is even assuming that Subgame would be modified in such a way to allow these new clients or that there was a genuine method to have the new client pretend to be Continuum to servers that didn't. As long as the zones could still connect to SSC (and offer the new client to Continuum users via update), the community at large will not change, other than an inconvenience of having two clients for people who want to play multiple zones. Does this mean the council is impotent or irrelevant? No, the most important thing about it is the communication factor. I think many people misunderstand that idea. For the community at large it's pretty plain that the game grows not from a central authority but from the individual zones and people working on their own to make something great. Would that maybe in the future there are cross-zone efforts as well--politics is a major barrier in this case.
  7. Bullet spam not spammy enough for you already? Good lord...
  8. If there isn't already a policy of no restorations, there should be. No one is going to investigate what you may or may not have transferred. Don't try to waste time. Since it is a widely known bug, one you most certainly knew about before this incident (or you've been living under a rock), and there is a very simple workaround you also know (save and save often) then the only real assumption to make is that you're trying to pull a trick to either get money you never had or more than what you say. If your story was easy to confirm I suspect the money would not be lost in the first place because it would mean the records were being kept properly. Yes, money can still get lost even if you're careful, but we know you'll just do some lame crap to get it back anyway... big deal. So basically, everything Cerium just said + my two cents.

I hope it doesn't take that long...geez. I don't see what the point is of focusing on Subgame compatibility before Continuum interoperability. ASSS might be the first and recommended server, if Discretion works there maybe more zones will try ASSS.

  11. Hey let's talk about the status quo some more.

There are only two skills needed in dueling: Ability to win, and ability to not lose. Beyond that it's irrelevant. Your constant insistence that the game be changed shows your own weakness of adaptation. You've even gone so far as to suggest in the past that walls are a hindrance to a real duel. Clearly they are for you, but the best players are not limited by this or anything else. The game may be more press button to win than you'd like (note: I don't necessarily like it either), but everyone is aware of the capabilities of everything, so only a loser would not be prepared to face everything and take advantage of the strategies employed.
  13. Why on earth would evasion be a factor in ban length? The time they should be gone is the time they should be gone, not the time "the average user" will be gone. If lots of people are evading bans and it's causing people to only get caught in old ones, then perhaps evaluate if bans really should be that long.

How wouldn't it be? HS isn't other zones but I'm pretty sure we wouldn't be the first zone to allow items in this kind of game. Actually I said that wrong, I meant "wouldn't be the first to not disallow for no reason." They're part of the game. Bursts are probably the least lame of those three because you'd have to be an idiot to get caught by one in duel-space. Thors are anti-run mechanisms, good stuff. Repels are limited, so whoopydoo. Has anyone said mines should be illegal yet? Lolol. Come on, guys. Let's outlaw prox bombs too, and shredder. And cluster bomb. Heck let's just not let there be any customization at all. Heck let's make everyone play the same ship.. screw warbirds, everyone in stock javs gogo. Then with some minor adjustments to stock jav we can be just like TW!
  15. Okay so you admit you fall into "try to get the best build" and not "copy someone else," doesn't make any difference to me... either way that happened a long time ago. If you didn't notice it until now, then it obviously isn't a big deal.
  16. Ultimately if you buy things to try to get the best build or copy someone else instead of just playing to be unique and creative (as is the ENTIRE POINT of having a customization system), you are in for some disappointment. At least now there are a lot more decent builds than there used to be. See, what I don't get about this thread is that nothing has changed in months anyway, and unless someone gets some sudden inspiration I don't see that changing soon. You should enjoy that.
  17. It doesn't matter, though. News page is used for things that matter.
  18. You say that like it's a bad thing
  19. I didn't feel like debugging why a ton of money was forgotten by HS-Bank in a seemingly nonrepeatable incident I decided not to bring the bank online and I probably never will again. Either way it's just +1 thing that could be nice but people overconsume so it dies faster, so it's no skin off my back. I recommend no one else try making a bank because you will need to do too much to make it a reliable system, and then you'll have these players to deal with. Concerning other future banks, remember that all bots are a scam until proven innocent, guys. No one's going to go to the trouble to make a reliable transactions system even if they were trying to be legit, so don't trust your money there.
  20. Well there are lots of things that would be nice if you guys did them, too.
  21. If it were to be the decision that these bans should be lifted, then there is something wrong the ban policy. The ban represents a label of one who has been deemed to have unacceptable behavior, and must be removed (for a period of time directly related to the scale of the offense.) If these people are supposedly not worthy of being removed for so long, then the ban policy is a farce and should also be changed. Honestly though, I have a gut feeling that the ratio of people quietly serving their bans to the rest (evading, quitting altogether, or even sometimes getting a banfree in a friendly zone) is not as high as many would like to believe.

I have for a long time pondered about making Support Fields that did something like this, but it would be hard to implement the exact behavior of inside = boost, outside = lose boost, correctly.
  25. A laughable suggestion. Why are you getting mad? I pointed out the humor in your post and you're getting agitated. I don't know if you're like Lera and just looking for a fight or what, but you, sir, are practicing futility through hypocrisy. I've done nothing to deserve this: simply pointed out one humorous part about your post, which does not discredit the rest of it (you think it does, but you're just trolling.) Next time, at least save yourself the trouble and say "AKD I want you to say something harmless to me so I can overreact" instead of hiding behind your ever-so-original suggestions. HS item changes are srs bsns.
