  2. My advice is: If you're not in a hurry, be patient... sites like Newegg have some crazy deals once in a while. Power supplies, video cards and motherboards often get ~50% rebates on their Shell Shocker bi-daily thing.
  3. Whether you spend 1000$ or 3000$, it will be good for the same time... Choosing all the over-the-top components will only give you a minor boost of performance. The performance/cost upgrade ratio is very poor when you reach that point (i.e. 180$ video card vs 350$ video card... you'll play anything you want on max settings with both)
  4. I have a problem where when I alt tab, it's very slow entering fullscreen. It enters okay, but it sort of hangs there and then finally the game shows 1 minute later. Then when I alt tab it does the same thing in reverse, and disconnects me from the game. I end up with the ticker, and the alt tab works, but I am disconnected. So if it's a graphics issue why is it affecting my connection to the game servers? Well, the CPU spike that occurs by restoring the fullscreen window takes too long, and the game cannot communicate with the server properly during that time, resulting in a large lag spike. And depending on the server settings, these can disconnect you. That's why I play windowed... switching back and forth to other windows isn't a problem. You should make sure the game's resolution is the same as your desktop. If it has to change resolution when restoring, it only makes it worse.
  5. Bleh... just Show Default Resolution did the trick... thought I had tried that before Thanks
  6. That's stored in your profile settings. Just open your profiles and set your default resolution and it should save it. I set the resolution to 1920x1080 for all my profiles (instead of , which should use whatever the default setting is), and it still won't set the resolution properly. I have to manually switch profile for it to set properly (i.e. 'End', 'Home' to select next/previous profile). Then I can enter with the right resolution, but if I esc-Q, the resolution in the 'Resolution' menu sets itself back to 1600x1024. Hmm, I just checked the register, and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Continuum\State\ResolutionX / Y seem to define the current resolution used. But in my case, it seems to be correctly changing. It's just the selected resolution switches back to 1600x1024... hmm... It happens both with windowed and fullscreen. I have 2 monitors, but my second one is 1440x900, so it's probably unrelated? It's weird, anyway.
  7. Windows 7? Might have to run Continuum as administrator or something... at least once, just so it writes these to the registry... That makes me realize... my resolution keeps resetting itself whenever I start the client or come back to the main screen after Esc-Q, it's probably the same issue. I'll have to try it out.
  8. Sup everyone, just came back from a weekend away with my buddies... That sucks... Last time I used the FTP, it was on my old PC, which was reformatted since then
  9. Did you edit your post because you found the answer? Or is your post just ".." cause the title says it all?
  10. lol @ overreactions in here... 1) Thank you NR for explaining to this gentleman the seated side-wipe technique 2) Avast: All I said was that <> cannot go to bed without brushing my teeth without feeling awful, and <> cannot start a day properly without brushing them cause the morning breath stinks. So, this brings me to my third and final point... 3) I'm curious... those who brush once a day, is it in the morning, or before going to bed? 4) I'm also curious about the reason why people use the seated side-wipe vs the standing bend-wipe... The obvious answer is that everyone believes everyone use the same technique as them, until they come across forums like these But still... Is it something that is passed on from generation to generation? Is it a regional thing? I wonder if there are studies about that...

  12. It's probably more of a limitation of the *putfile itself... If you have any other mean of transferring the file (i.e. FTP), you could try that. I remember testing and using maps much larger than 512kb in the past... But it could have been on a local server, I don't remember.
  13. 1180 kB for a .lvl file is pretty huge, to be honest... Try to get rid of some useless tiles, like if you have very thick walls, or text with 1 tile per character... You can use lvz images to replace these. Or, if you have lots of ASSS regions defined, that can also take some space. Making them as square as possible also saves space, due to how they are stored in the file. Are you using ASSS or subgame? I never seen that message about a filesize limit... when does it appear? Ingame as you send the file? On the server console when the map is opened? Or is it a client message?
  14. Is the map file particularly large? Do you have large LVZ files? I think any file over 4MB will break Continuum.
  15. ^ Especially Windows 7...
  16. the awkward silence in this thread: * .... *
  17. The ads I seen made it look like a Independence Day pt.2 movie with nothing very original... But I like these action movies anyway, I'll probably see it...
  18. I believe Avast was indeed talking about all copper wiring that is used to transfer data, even though it wasn't clear . Replacing the power supply with a laser machine would be stupid and inefficient.
  19. Hmmm, could DSB be plagued by the infamous 17th Parallel Curse? We had a problem like that as well... We found that crashing the zone with a malformed /*sendto command to get the server to restart subgame fixed it (for a while). A simple *recycle won't work, for some reason...
  20. 100% of the people who died in the past 10 years drank water. If you want to live, don't drink water.
  21. I'll take 2 flux capacitors and rip the space-time continuum apart. Thank you.
  22. Yeah... can't find any traces either...either the server farted, or someone really wanted to delete these posts...
  23. nice video... took a while to load, but was worth it
  24. Yeah... what's the problem with this:
  25. How would you "make special items more efficient"? They don't take any energy to fire, their delay depends only on the bomb delay, and their behavior can't be changed much...
