    Zone Down?

    It's back up now.
  2. in real life
  3. Word of advice: the sooner you can get a bare bones item set in (of say... 20-30 items) the happier everyone will be. Even if it's not completed, people will still enjoy it. And that'll help keep you involved in finishing it.
  4. The current tileset should be a part of the current map file. I'm not sure about DCME versions, though.
  5. And even that event could have been measurement error.
  6. Point is that floating point numbers do not have improved accuracy over fixed point numbers. For a given size, they have less accuracy. Also rounding doesn't make the problem go away. It just makes the problem harder to find. EDIT: I'm not trying to tell you how to write your game. I'm simply participating in an intellectual design discussion. It is not my intention to be belligerent, though I know I can sometimes come across that way.
  7. Yes, fixed point math is going to give you better (and faster) results for the physics computations, where you don't need a lot of dynamic range. In situations where fixed point is possible you end up with more precision than using an equivalently sized floating point number (e.g. int64_t vs. double, int32_t vs. float), since you're not wasting space storing the exponent.
  8. I'll first summarize the relevant points about releasing the security source: The encryption is the first step in creating a cheat. The encryption is the last step in creating a continuum compatible client. Let me further state that none of the public replacements are anywhere near needing it, and most, like Discretion, will never need it. So while I agree that the reason people haven't created cheats is more about the lack of motivation than the lack of source code, there really is nothing to be gained at this point by releasing it.
  9. I've released at least one, yes. I don't want it to seem like we just cut Snrrrub loose. I know Arnk tried to help him get everything working, including sending him a recently compiled security.so. I also offered to help, though this was a few days afterwards (I was on vacation, and out of contact at the time things were happening).
  10. I haven't had much in the way of dealings with him, and I didn't take his release of encryption info for older clients as a serious attack on the integrity of the game. On the other hand, the fact that he couldn't get the already released security.so to work meant he was either pulling a fast one or incompetent. And we all can agree he's not incompetent.
  11. I'm open to a discussion of an alternate way to display the Hyperspace population, such as not counting spectators at all, or reporting 0 when no one is playing. Open a thread in the HS forums about it, and we can hash out the pros and cons.
  12. It's officially over. I just removed the +1000 from HS, after confirming that PB, EG and CZ are no longer inflating their pops. Everspace still has to remove their random number, but I'm confident that will happen in short order.
  13. Rotation adds a lot to the download time, and there's really no way to overcome this with Continuum.
  14. I believe there is no way to remove this "restriction" without removing the ships. Since the ships are all different radii from the originals, removing them is not a viable option.
  15. ?usage usually does the trick.
  16. I've watched countless zones die due to change of ownership, and vowed to never have HS go through that. Better to kill the zone and have someone remake a similar one (with clear ownership) than to let it die to infighting. Hoch did not understand this, and rather than shut down DSB cleanly, he let it fester. I said as much at the time, but we were never on good terms.
  17. Someone let me know via forum PM when the inflation is done and I'll make sure HS removes its +1000. I'm not in game much, so I wouldn't quickly notice on my own.
  18. So many things wrong with your post. This has never been about bots, Hyperspace was always my zone, and mods only enforce rules, they have no relation to how a server is run. As for killing the game, yes I agree. The population inflation was killing the game, so I decided to accelerate it and show people how bad it was. Never thought it'd go this long, of course, but zone ops are a stubborn bunch (they have to be, to last).
  19. If what you said is true, and Axe isn't American, then it's a pretty good bet that he's not a member of Congress either.
  20. So the system is so flawed that anyone with a bit of knowledge can kick zones off the biller. Wonderful.
  21. Yes, the billing ops don't like to reveal the information, in case it might be helpful to "name hoaders". The fact that name hoaders already know how the system works, and that the information could be useful to people not interested in hoarding doesn't usually enter the discussion.
  22. As usual, Hyperspace does things far better than other zones. EDIT: I'll curtail the flames by adding a note saying that this post is a joke. It should be read as a joke. Replies taking it seriously will be ignored.
  23. Source is here, somewhere: https://bitbucket.org/drbrain/hyperspace_modules https://bitbucket.org/drbrain/hscore
  24. You clearly misunderstood. I will not remove my population inflation until all of the SSC zones have stopped. Since none of the zones are interested in stopping, you will be removing them alongside Hyperspace. At that point there will be no reason for me to continue running Hyperspace, and I will shut it down. There was no retaliation. There was no threat. Just cause and effect.
  25. Nothing would make me happier than official action against Hyperspace, since that would involve official action against the other zones doing the same thing. My goal was never to help Hyperspace, but to show the other zones how incredibly annoying and detrimental population inflation really is.
