And so twilight is upon us and we're drawing to a close.
Dr Brain replied to Gravitron's topic in General Discussion
It has a different name, a different client, a different server, a different user database, a different programmer, a different protocol, a different website ... and it's the same game? Nope, try again. Make no mistake, saying it's a different game isn't a criticism. After all, every other video game is a different game (by definition), and some of them are quite good. -
I think gdb can do data breakpoints so it'll break every time a specific memory location is accessed. I think it can even be made to break only on certain data conditions. Might make your debugging process a bit easier.

Thors seem unrealistic but the bases floating in space filled with space ships that can only fly in 2d don't bother you?

I laughed at sass and arnk. If I had the option, I'd put myself into the neutral good.

If it's a problem (and I have no idea, since I haven't played in years), then there are simpler solutions. The simplest, in my mind, is to have negative rewards for TKing someone. Like getting -5 exp for each TK. I suspect that would stop TKs real fast. If that's too drastic, then some other number may suffice, or alternatively a monitary penalty could be enacted.

Updates Bring Subspace to Consoles (Ps3 / Xbox 360)
Dr Brain replied to Succeed's topic in General Discussion
A point. You haven't got one (or you couldn't be bothered to include it in your rambling post.). Look into that, and try again.- 28 replies

Updates Bring Subspace to Consoles (Ps3 / Xbox 360)
Dr Brain replied to Succeed's topic in General Discussion
He's not coding a new client. He's coding a new game. You'll also note he expects to make money from his efforts (and there's nothing wrong with that, mind you), so I wouldn't say it's being done for free.- 28 replies

Updates Bring Subspace to Consoles (Ps3 / Xbox 360)
Dr Brain replied to Succeed's topic in General Discussion
Honestly, I wish someone would pay me $100,000 to recode the whole thing. I honestly could go on and on. EDIT: it's not clear because of the page break, but my post was parodying the one that came before.- 28 replies

You want us to come up with the concept and do all the work, but you want the credit? Thanks, but I'll pass.

Updates Bring Subspace to Consoles (Ps3 / Xbox 360)
Dr Brain replied to Succeed's topic in General Discussion
Nothing is hard, per se. It's extremely time consuming though. Remeber this game was developed by someone being paid to work on it full time. While I'm not familiar with the exact amount of time it took, I'd bet it was at least 6 months, though more likely a year. Look at all the publically announced clones over the years (to say nothing of the private endevours, such as my own group). How many have reproduced enough of the SS functionality to viable? Exactly 0. That should tell you a lot about the amount of time involved in making something work.- 28 replies

What's your problem with twitter? This is like the one thing in the whole world it's decent for. No need to sign up, just subscribe to the RSS feed. I'm sure there are ways to get it to forward to an email or SMS too.

ESC + F3 I believe. If I'm wrong someone will correct me shortly.

Not since I ignored him . You might try it.

I didn't say it was civilized. If being uncivilized were made illegal, 95% of the population would be banned. That's just the age group. Anyway, that's not what racism is.

Doing something silly like centiseconds instead of milliseconds? Or vica versa?

Wouldn't be terribly difficult to change ?killmessages to take a minimum notification parameter. All the rest of the logic is already present, and right now it switches between $20 and -1 (i.e. disabled).

The word "Racism" is usually used in place of "really bad swearing", rather than its true meaning. Most zones use it this way. I've always interpreted this rule list the same way. No swearing and no really bad swearing. Racism in its true meaning (a specific type of bigotry) is not actually illegal in HS. If you want to have a civilized discussion on why you believe people with one color skin are inherently better than people with another color skin, go for it. Don't expect to make any friends though (and realize that if you so much as say "damn" the mods will more than likely use it as an excuse to ban you forever).

You're banned for life. You're not supposed to communicate with anyone. Go find another forum to haunt. Maybe one for people that don't like their bipolar medications.

I've added Lone Outlaw to my ignore list after that outrageous post. He'll probably just change accounts (again), but at least then I'll feel justified in banning him. Spider, SSDs aren't about the read and write times, they're about the random access times. On a mechanical drive, this is around 10ms, and is a function of the platter rotational velocity (i.e. it won't be less next year). The best RAID could do is split this in half, but in reality it's probably unaffected (I don't think RAID chooses the drive based on current platter position). It's amazing what a difference SSDs make in the day to day operation of a computer (how often do you just move 10 GB files around, after all?). True you can't store as much on them, but 120 GB is more than enough for the OS and any non-game programs. Keep a second drive for games and any media files. And about the safety of the drive, a cloud backup program is a good solution (and not just for HD failures). I use Crashplan's family offering and am quite happy with it. If you've got access to a few different computers you can spread your files out even more (for free even).

Haha, it's worth putting that into a historical note in your client.

Updates Let's assume I know what I'm talking about
Dr Brain replied to Lone Outlaw's topic in General Discussion
You're the one that has problems with assumptions. Assumptions are a part of life, and I have no problem with them. I'll correct an incorrect assumption if I see it so that knowledge is increased. I'm not holding you to my standard, I'm holding you to yours. Hypocrisy is the real issue (though to be fair I've been guilty of it more than once). Nope. The way this is worded it is two assumptions. Saying something is an assumption doesn't make it any less of an assumption. You could word it to be more conditional and be only one, but it's never zero (and you didn't word it that way anyhow). If you can't say what you mean, that's not our problem. And finally, if you take offense when we call you on what you wrote (rather than what you meant to write), you may want to stop posting on online forums until you can get a better handle on writing what you mean (i.e. never).- 35 replies

This is not a question. Therefore you cannot claim to have "asked" it. We do know what you're talking about. That's how we know you're wrong.- 35 replies
