  1. I do not really agree with spin nor bak Although I'm beginning to think there might have been good sense in banning spin from MG. Spin, a word of advice: drop the propaganda-style writing! Nobody will ever take you seriously like that, even if you might be saying the truth. If I was a moderator here, I'd definitely clean up or delete you posts. Their only goal is to stir up conversation and anger. (Although, I must admit, in the midst of all this Bush-Iraq-Whatever crap, seeing something SS-related is quite pleasant.)
  2. I must nibble at this bit here. I absolutely cannot agree with any such statement. This is to me a blatant distortion of reality and a great contributor to unfair debate. The world is not as simple as that and in arguments' date=' people rarely understand each other enough to claim anything like this. The truth is a three edged sword. I've almost never seen a situation where someone was completely right or completely wrong. As Bernard Woolley seid in "Yes, Prime Minister" episode 1-4: "I suggest [...'] adopting a more flexible posture [...].". (Yes, I do love that show )
  3. I think I might have it already... but I doubt he'd listen to anything on the phone Meh, Continuum is dead. I'll just try to get my own version done fast -_-
  4. ?man doesn't work? It does nothing? Does ?version work? There's a "DisableHelp" setting in the ini. Maybe you turned it on accidentally? More details about ?ban not working. What exactly does it say? What is the biller version? (do ?version) What is the name of the player you are trying to ban? What exactly is the command you are typing?
  5. Good point
  6. WOOT! That's incredible I would never have imagined something like that
  7. I'm working on it School has given it a twist though... I have like..... one-two hours of free time per day, at most... so I'll probably be able to code on weekends or when I'm ill... and that is not very good On the good news side, the server code is coming together nicely Client is still pretty spineless
  8. In server.ini under [billing], Make sure that ScoreID and GroupID are not zero. Does the biller window say anything? If not, the port under [billing] is wrong. It must be the same as the one in ssbilling2.ini
  9. And just in case something is unclear: this is how to change news.txt: 1) Download it to the Continuum directory (*getfile news.txt). 2) Edit it. 3) Upload it again (*putfile news.txt). That should work. Are you sure you are editing the news.txt in the Continuum directory? And yeah, as Mav said, there's a small tiny chance that the news.txt is just set to read-only at the server side.
  10. What burns me is that people see nothing other than Bush or Iraq or terrorism when they look at the world of politics... there's so much so important stuff out there! I was really hoping to see a wide variety of topics here, but... no? Maybe the whole contingent of politically thinking minds in USA is so caught up with these three topics that more important issues are all forgotten? I'm a bit young, so I don't know... maybe this has always been like this... has it? Can some older people tell me what were the "hot topics" in... say 1995? I'm glad the situation is not like this in my tiny country... although I must admit that there's not much of a political discussion here on other topics either. In fact, I found another thing that burns me: there are three types of people in Estonia that care about politics: 1) The media people - luckily they're not very biased here 2) The retired people - it seems to me like most of them don't understand anything about politics and just listen to insane rumors and conspiracy theories. Some do, of course, but... the lot of them just vote for one of our oldest and largest parties because the (now ex-)leader of that party is a very ... ... ... (I can't find a suitable word... pro-Estonian, pro-elderly) old guy. They just vote for him, no matter what the party does or says. 3) Some youth groups - a bit less of the insane consipracy theories here, but still some... and most of the young people are just in it for the company. Even the official groups of political parties are mostly joined for the free alcohol and hotels that they hand out for meetings... yeah, they give free alcohol to underaged teens... And the few people who really care about stuff are just swamped in this big field of normal teens. So in summary, it burns me that the only people who really care and do stuff about political issues are the politicians themselves. The people are just "there" and easily manipulated (recently, we lost a Prime Minister and the Cabinet because of some foolish squabble about a very sensible anti-corruption plan that some politicians just twisted into some totalitarian weapon in the media...).
  11. As was said, you can be banned for saying "cheese pie" if that's what a zone owner wants. It's his zone, he can do whatever he wants. Of course, on the other hand, I do agree that this sounds like (since I haven't seen any logs, I can't be too sure of the situation, but still) a very pointless ban. I've known Testtube for a while and I do think him capable of committing innumerable accounts of childishness and pure foolishness, so I certainly believe he could have done this exactly as was said. Even if a person is being disruptive, any decent sysop should silence him instead (with a bot, to remove any chances of byp!@#$%^&*ing it), especially if he's a valuable addition to the gameplay. On the other hand, if you were silenced before (you say you could not receive messages? That's not what silencing does, so I'm a bit unsure about this...), that might have caused you to be disruptive when the silence expired, so there might have been grounds for a ban. I have seen no logs so I can't say whether it was fair in my opinion but whatever the case, sysops have the right to do whatever they want with you.
  12. That 4% is very inaccurate and cannot be relied on. Trace only starts giving accurate packetloss measurements with several hundred cycles.
  13. Well, very little actual packetloss is showing, really. Only 1 out of 26 packets was lost to the server, so that's not very accurate. From this trace, all I can say is that the problem does not seem to be with your network or your ISP, but the server. Maybe a trace with at least 100-200 cycles could pinpoint something more. (By the way, you can ignore those 95% figures on the trace, those are inaccurate)
  14. SOS

    packetloss

Also, if it's server to you then make sure you're not downloading anything at the same time - fast downloads can use up all the bandwidth.
  15. I'd blame turf mode for this problem. No, a bot couldn't fix it if it is as you describe.
  16. Well, ok, the zone has some potential. I especially liked the fact that I didn't have to wait for 5 minutes to download it. I love the map design. It almost-almost-almost has a great "derelict giant spaceship" feel... but the tileset ruins all traces of it. Tileset says medieval castle... wtf? Spaceships in a castle? Err.... no thanks. The ships are more-or-less OK. They have a bit more items than I'd like (there are two types of zones: shooting zones and item-happy zones... this is somewhere in the middle, I'd say. I like shooting zones a lot more). There's one thing that I absolutely hate though... X-Radar on every ship!!. What the bloody fritzgerald use are the stealth and cloak then? NONE! Just cluttering up my screen space. Useless. Bah. I hate that. Also, the "3 games"... OK, this might (I'd write more on why it'd not but why bother) in big zones work, but for a small zone? Suicide! If you have 4 players in the arena, they better be playing for the same objective! Otherwise, they'll be in different parts of the arena, each winning his "own" game... and there won't be any action; there won't be any fun and they will not come back.
  17. First of all, I suggest you actually get your zone done before getting on a host. I mean done as in I-don't-need-to-change-this-zone-in-the-next-30-days-at-all done. Secondly, www.ssihosting.com is accepting applications but is probably full. I heard there are some weird SSQ hosts or whatever. Visit the zones on them, see if you cna contact the hosts.
  18. Just wait...
  19. Huh? Ok, go ahead, do it. (You might want to look around this forum a bit, though )
  20. Well, ok, let's just call it useless
  21. So you want to force people to use new formats? Bah. Anyway, what if you're not serious about making lvz. Can only super-serious-lvz-junkies use your program? What if some newbie just wants to have his first go at lvz and a cool map editor...
  22. ... who cares? As you might have noticed, nobody mentioned file size here. Nobody cares about file size! Crap programs riddling the system is what people care about.
  23. Good that you got it fixed. Btw Mav, the server ip is only used for one thing that is never used The proxy check.
  24. Post your server.ini and the latency settings from server.cfg, maybe I can spot something off.
  25. Try making the lag settings looser in server.cfg. Make the kickout delay longer, maybe.
