Yep.

I thought that makes them the opposite of racist.

Hrmm, looking at the list of things that you can do I guess you could go for writing either an application that simulates the lottery, or simulates a dumb-dice roll.

If it were a few months ago, I'd agree with you that the council is pointless. Now though, I disagree. All I can see is improvement. I think instead of riding the bandwagon so much - it's time to see why you're complaining; and see if your complaints are still valid. Currently, it seems, SSC will accept any zone that's hosted - no more population controls, you'll only have a hard time if you've had a record of malicious intent. That's a fair enough rule for me. SSC prefix is not (or no longer, whatever... I can make an SSC# zone if I like) controlled by the central biller, as the trust is placed in the 'are you sure you want to play this zone' message. AFAIK only two people have broken that messages encryption (without editing the client). Also, I'd like to mention that every SSC zone has had SSC in it's zone title. Yes, even T3G did.

@Xog: Yeah, do whatever works for you. Different people learn in different ways.

By talking too much.

Read previous code, implement it into your code - find out exactly what is happening. The longer you spend doing it, the more experienced you become and so on..

I personally prefer chatting typing, rather than talking.

My standard reply to any personal blog: OKay.

@Prozaker: vim is for newbs, use Ed. @rootbear75: Only when you're on the hilarious receiving end.

It took me a while at first as I was using Darwine - which is unsupported. I had to do a lot of external code for even the menu to run but running it through standard Wine took me a couple hours to get running smoothly. Anywho, I'll explain that sudo step: $ sudo port install bison ftgl libpng xrender fontconfig freetype xorg port install refers to Mac Ports, which is a package manager for OS X, similar to aptitude (apt-get) on Debian, pacman on Arch or RPM on RedHat. All of the above will require sudo, as the files database needs to be unlocked (which is outside of the normal user permission level), and various system files will need to be written to etcetera. Click any of the following for more information about what you're installing. You can take my word for it that none of the below will compromise your system or any of your files, and I've not had any complaints in the 50 or so e-mails that I've replied to regarding Continuum on OS X via Wine. That doesn't include the youtube responses, and the in-game help I've provided. Bison FTGL libpng XRender fontconfig freetype XOrg If he's still unsure, I am also available on MSN: krslynx gmail or AIM: krslynx

I suppose it depends how strictly you want to take the impersonation rule. It doesn't confuse me.

The same thing can be done with either Parallels/Virtual Box or whatever your favorite flavor of virtual machine is. The wine setup is very easy too, but perhaps not so easy for your average mac user. It's just a matter of downloading Mac Ports (an OS X package manager), downloading a few packages then doing the usual steps of patching and compiling wine. It doesn't run as well on OS X as it does on Linux though (because X-Code 3.x has issues compiling 8/16-bit code).

Well, I am assuming that TT would not mind making the website available for developers to use locally - if that's the case it would not be hard at all to: 1. Sort the files by category 2. Get the files name (on the website) 3. Get the files actual name (within the database) 4. Get the files description 5. Get author names (if any) 6. Get the previous download count ... etc

I've said I'd be happy to re-write the walk troughs to put them on GetContinuum.com - but the admins of the site (not sure who) are no longer active. If your friend has any issues with the walk trhoughs I've made on my site (they're not great) then tell him to make a post under feedback and support here.

When you've got design ideas/main developers post them up, I will help where I can. Just a quick edit: Grabbing the title and description for each download isn't hard.

Should be simple, and focused around a tagging system. If the file is a skin, tag it as a skin - if the file is a level editor, that can also edit LVZs, then tag it as both level editor and lvz editor. It's a fast and descriptive way of sorting all of the thousands of files. I'd personally swing towards designing your own site rather than using a CMS (unless you find something perfect for you). Seeing as you've got so many files to sort, it will probably be least time consuming if you have your files 'database'/tags etc sorted in an XML file fx: Using something like Ruby on Rails (or even PHP) you can easily create an upload form that will edit each branch of the tree, and increment the download counter every time it's downloaded. You can also auto-generate smaller thumbnails (for pictures/screenshots) too. The only reason I am suggesting that you go for this XML style is because you can have a script run through all of the existing files, generating XML entries with the files name, it's size, it's location, and possibly utilize any screenshots that already exist. It also may not be a bad idea to utilize tools that are already available that show a preview of maps/images/text files etcetera.

Even if we came up with a simple game that kinda looks a little bit like subspace, but was pretty fun and called it Subspace and used a VIE ship... It would make for good advertising if people downloaded it.

I've got Notepad++ too, and on the Uni computers they have jEdit (because I can't be bothered to install anything else) - avoid jEdit like the plague.

Ehrm, to begin rambling... One thing that is puzzling me is who is going to design and code a new biller? Is there talks of getting the source for the current biller (if there is any), or has there been new hope placed in PriitK? My personal opinion is that if there is going to ever be a new biller, it needs to be thoroughly tested before it can ever be put into place (and tested using the current billers schematics, to allow for the current db to be used) - also, if a new biller was ever established would the source be readily available for developers? Also, I recall Dr Brain talking about other ways of managing the server side of things in total (an authorization server etcetera) which to me made a lot more sense. fx: Login/Authorization Server (handles user logins and passes users off to zone servers) Login Database Server (stores user names and passwords and all other data) Zone Server (for gameplay) banG Server (to handle bans) Alias Server (that can be refreshed, and reads from DB server) Also, when designing a new billing server, I think that the security on bans should be increased, although it would require client side edits too. For example, the following things can all be checked quite easily: System Volume MAC Hash User Name Hash Processor Info Hash Registry Keys Hidden Files Windows Install Key Machine GUID Motherboard Serial CD Rom Serial IP NetBIOS Name Hash Name Password Hash There are many other things that can be checked, too - although this all requires editing the client. Some of these things are very hard to change (and then should each only account by chance) for example, if a user has a password, registry and files hash match on all three, it's a 95% chance that it's the same person - it should then be down to the moderators prerogative whether to ban said player, or a server op can decide whether users can play with whatever % likeliness that they've actually been banned. This also all requires a lot more coding, a lot more planning, and a lot more testing. All of which are hard to find in Subspace in general...

By the way, I remember I advocated flash the other day - avoid flash ads.

Why is this thread still alive? random.org it like Dr Brain said.

Lol, not anymore it's not.
