BlueGoku, I respect that. And in a way i do feel the forums will and can be productive. But I feel there is further more that can be done to connect the disconnection, and create more of a union, then a "your in that group, I'm in this group." I totally understand what your saying Blue, but I'm wondering if you or ace is understanding what I'm saying. I'm not saying you shouldn't have a private section. I'm saying this can go to a different higher level. By having the forums is a great step to get all of us talking. That's great. The next step would be involving the public. And i think that is where our views strongly differ, because perhaps we see the forums being used differently. You see it as a run of the mill sysop forum priv chat, uped a notch to included zone sysops, server admins, and what not. I see it as the potential to be that, and a bit more. I think progress should be open and viewed. A very good example is the "Cross Zone Events" thread, should be shared. You posted here on these forums, but focus was dreadful, but now you have some. No, not all topics need to be seen by everyone, but that is for the more restricted area. I think the forums is great, but i think there is a way to make it a bit better, so everyone, in every aspect of the game, can contribute. These forums are hosted on SSC's website, it is now directly affiliated with this game as a hole, and should represent so. As to compete with ssforums..... shouldn't be seen like that, but from my standpoint...you officially have two official forums representing SSC and this game..when it should be 1. The other(s) should be a fan site/forums. By deciding to to do this on on another forum, in a way, makes things messy. BTW I think what your initial thoughts of the forums have now become something else. And i believe the intent is right, but the wording your using is off, and therefor making others feel your selection has become favor picking. Sketter I love you to ADT!
-
No. perhaps the wording might be off, since i said dev. 2) community builders (Server Admin, Zone Admin, SSC Member, SSC Billing Op, Game VIP) forums, that the general may "view" but can not post. This involves the general public to view what we are doing for the benefit of the game. this then gives anyone outside the "elite group" (can't think of a word for "us" right now, and in us i mean "Server Admin, Zone Admin, SSC Member, SSC Billing Op, Game VIP") forums to then view, and then if they feel they can contribute, post in the general forums. as well as adopt ideas that could be posted on the general forums. On your second part - Then you have your members understand the difference of harmful information vs productive info and understanding the rules. If they can not, and you have doubt, then you already have members you have issues with. Sketter
-
From my understanding, you have already approved some people who do not sit under as a sysop, host, SSC member. My next suggestion was to support you in your choices by then designating them under "dev" vip codres and such. But i see you have given them the name of GAME VIP. Since your main 4 points of criteria to join, do not permit them. (I'm sure that will change after this post) Correct, there is a section on the ssforums. And if the current forums you admin SSC Forums, was used under ssforums, (which is not because of political reasons) then it wouldn't be then an issue. But now you have created a "focus point" for the VIP's, there for dev should be included. And again, as for dev, i'm talking about the small few that don't hold the general aspects of a sysop, that you have now called GAME VIP. "It seems like a lot of (unnecessary) work to separate it into a "publicly viewable" sysop discussion board and a "private" sysop discussion board." I'm sorry, I do not mean to be rude, but i can not categorise that to anything other then lazy. Those are not my forums, and that is fine, you can do what you see best. But you have shot down my ideas, before even you had a chance to really think about it, in point form, looking for a disagreement in logic. (poorly done) I do not feel that our general conversations should be kept private. An outsider might have productive criticism. (Anything that is, then have it posted where it should be) Do you honestly see harm in our two main discussions being viewed by others? (The ones i posted in my previous post) If so how? You replied too quickly to even consult for those you work for. I'm feeling a bit of close minded on your part. You want to be a cut off the group from the rest of everyone else, with no communication, your on the right track...what i'm offering is the idea, something new, to involved more then an picked elite group, and even still, it doesn't limit as much as you think. (isn't SSC criticized for that enough now? ) Sketter Take a moment You couldn't be any more far off from what is being said, and suggested.

it has been a while since some good drama poped up. there is some good points on both sides. (im on my wii and typing with remote takes to long so keeping short) having access i can say there isn't really anything right now to hide...the only thing they got is a collection of net & zone bans...but any lvl bang can view a net ban from any zone, as for zone wide...it would only serve as cross refence....and that is useful in hiring. in my eyes, the nature of the forums is to create "communication", between zones with people who can have an impact in way or another. with that said, it is then understandable to allow vips with the intent of community building for people of great impact. (as well meet the criteria of access provided by the guidelines the administrator) i do feel the is progress already. since reviewing the forum policy, i an not barred to speak of it's content. provided it is not compromising ssc. (at least not at the time of this post) to be brief, two topics of of worthy is the ssc wide event onced talked about by Blue, can now be talked about even more with better focus, since the bringing of everyone together (via forums) , and talks of a ssc net wide alias system on all servers. now, do i think the way restriction is being done right? no..not really. some improvements can be done. i believe the forum should be cut into 3 sections. 1) general section for the general pop can access. 2) community builders (sysops, devs, hosts, vips) forums, that the general may "view" but can not post. this involves both the vips, and the general pop to view what we are doing for the benift of the game. this then gives anyone outside the vip forums to then view, and then if they feel they can contribute, post in the general forums. as well as adopt ideas that could be posted on the general forums. 3) security/privacy forums where section two of the rules ( exploits, glitch, ect - info only part of it), collection of the bans ect, or anything the administrator my find deemed enough not for the public eye, but for the vips to know. remember the idea should be effective community building. We don't, and shouldn't have anything to hide, and be productive. I also believe the !@#$%^&*le of the forums should be changed. since it is not only for sysops of zone owners, thus i guess that would eliminate the issue of "well I'm a sysop" Sketter Thank you for your time.

I think I agree with pretty much everything you say, however, I think the reason people develop isn't just to generate more population, but to learn a little more, and do something constructive. That's why I dev anyway. -Lynx In that aspect, this game is a ver good source for your run of the mil bot coder/!@#$%^&*S and in some way gfx. There is no problem with that, and i can see the frustration where the minds of these devers can only go so far on an old game. However, this is about realistic views of the future of this game...which there really isn't one Sketter

Reviving an old game isn't exactly ever going to be successful. Name a game that has. This topic isn't new, so we should all spare ourselves from pointlessness, and I'll be brief. What you want, and what is reality are extremely different things. To continue the name of what this game represents will in fact require a complete overhaul (Such has a Subspace 2, and a new engine to run it on) To achieve this (witch i do believe is unable with the state of this game) to create an progressive group with professional skills, to cover all aspects of what is needed for a sequel. And true comitmint. Really think about that. You do not need SSC full support. However it would make life easier. I truly believe there is a big disconnect from "SSC" and the players. There really is no elitegroup up there being productive in the aspect of development. There is one man in control, and his time is better spent else where. Continuum has gone as far as it can.....its server(s) (subgame/!@#$%^&*S) can only go as far as it's client. With that said. My experience with the SS/CTM community over 10 years....this game has gone as far as it can. I don't feel there is a well structured group out there to continue this games legacy. No matter how bad we want it, realistically, you are playing a 10+ old game, with no real structure, no support, no development/updates. Do you know what the odds are a this point? Unless you can actually do something, enjoy your time. Sketter Just letting you know

I rafted 3 times on the Ottawa river at the Wilderness Tours adventure resort. That was really fun, tho getting up at 6 am to go rafting sucked but meh...worked out in the end. Anyways check it out. Wilderness tours

It is the best compromise of both worlds....not that i think it will happen to this game, BUT realistically, without crippling your player base, you still offer free game play, and profit for those willing to buy an item. But finding the balance for both is key. It works very well, and proven, cause it works for a lot of MMO's. I have seen MMO's (like Priston Tale) go from monthly to cash shop. and none of you are not touching my Wii!!! Sketter

well, he made the card and is advertising it, so it would be his responsibility to answer questions from people. he put a link to ssforum.net, anyway. as for your description... it sounds a bit weird. I'd do something like: "Continuum is one the longest running massively multiplayer games on the internet! For over 10 years, Continuum has boasted its unique themed servers and robust player base, reaching well over a thousand players daily from around the world. Do you have what it takes?" I think wording is very important when advertising, you want people to get interested in what your offering. I think it is important for people to know that this game IS in fact run by it's players, where do you hear any game run by it's players like we do? I think that will catch peoples interests. I don't like the punch line being "do you have what it takes?" It feels used... it is too commonly use. You are in fact trying to advertise a decade old game, taking it back to where it all started, fits with what there is to offer here, and trying to get people back to when 2D games was the !@#$%^&* Perhaps putting something everyone has said, something can work out. And yes, it is too bad he printed it, but if it goes well, and a second round is needed, a few mods won't hurt. Working one on one with people, i can respect that, but in this way, i still don't agree (agree to disagree) But last i heard over 90% of kids in North America has a computer. I'm do have confident in them they know how to download, install, and play. If there is a problem, they WILL look at the website they got it from, and look for tech support, trouble shoot, FAQ. Something getcontinuum doesn't have on their main page. you need to enter the biginners page first before you get a link for support. I say just get the site updated....who runs it anyways? Sketter

Continuum is the longest running massively multi player game on the Internet. 13 years into the making, continuum is still alive and well, reaching thousands of players daily from all over the world Do you have what it takes? Uummm....I guess it is too late but not totally cool with the wording, and just wanted to add my 2 cents, not that you have to take it. Continuum is one of the longest running massively multi player game on the Internet. 10 years of a game played by, lived by, and run solely by the players. Connecting thousands of players by it's unique free game, made by the players. Check out why we lasted this long... Continuum, taking you back, to where it all started. Also i don't think you should have your email on it, i think it should be directed to ssforums, only. Also getcontinuum needs to update it's site, fix broken links and update status for zones, and i really think ssforum should be placed on that site for technical support since SS Council website is dead and this is the place where it seems priitk and GS seemed to indirectly indorsed. But I love what you are doing. Sketter

Lets go back to something very important. Before you start working on ideas to spread your players thin, you need to come up with something new this game does not have, and then incorporate it successfully in 3-4 zones, then advertise outside of the this community, that is if you wish to increase the capabilities and varieties of zones. These people are off on the right track http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?showtopic=19928 Pay to play would generate money, but this isn't WOW. A monthly subscriptions won't work, but you can generate money if you really wanted to. You would need to create more zones like HS to accomplish this. A simple cash shop for items where you go to a website and buy things for real money, then using that to pay some to dev. A lot of MMO's fallow this structure. But this isn't corporate, no one can be held accountable, no paper work to submit to anyone, so it would be abused from the second that penny arrives in the account. But let it be known, doable as of today. Speaking of dev. There isn't a lot of devving as there once was. This game is over a decade old, and the ones that are left, have found homes, and not moving. Which means, not many new zones popping up. And that is exactly what we are seeing. However there is one project that i was first pessimistic about, but it is showing progress...sadly at a very slow pace. http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?showforum=398 I don't think this will save the game for another 10 years, and right now it seems to only be a more 3D version of Continuum, but "Continuum" is not going to get any serious updates, if this is what we have left....might as well poor support into that, work with ASSS, and create new zones that can do different things. But it is moving at a very slow pace, and might end up being too late. Overall, create something new, something big, and get people from the outside, not moving the pop around. You need to build members, not just maintain what you already have. All focus for this game should be to prolong its death. Sketter

hhmmm.....spoke to you on msn about this, but... Doable, in fact, there is a good chance one day it will....but not in the way you think or others will. I think this "idea" has already been done in some SVS zones....I could be wrong tho.. Right now we are nowhere near a server wide zone merge, but with the decline of population, in order for some zones to stay alive, or semi alive, i can see zones then teaming up by putting their main arena and a few popular subareans to a bigger more populated zone. This is something still years away, (3-5 years by my count) if this decline continues. I think by the time we have 3-4 or even as less 2 zones left with actual pop, that i see this happening. Right now, everyone still thinks this game has a chance, and fighting for pop. I'm not saying this is what will really happen, but there is a strong possibility down the long road it could very well be. (as long as there is someone that still cares, and in fact something i feel SSC should orginize...or so I feel it would be something they should plan down the road) Sketter
-
It would fail miserably. Even the theory is flawed. There is this misconception that highly populated zones is the way it is because it has the population. If that is the thought process, then you are seriously wrong. These zones may get the initial response to newcomers, however if their game play is not enjoyable to create a loyal player, then that player would go else where. By closing all but one zone will not bring a significant amount of users. Most likely, you would see a population in that zone, but not substantial to what you want to accomplish. (afkers wounding wtf is going on, then going afk or leaving) And not everyone willing to play in another zone. Many may not like the settings, and not worth their time, and since their home zone is closed, why even bother staying online. (Oh look my zone is schedule to be on in 5 days...hhmmm...i wounder what my friend from school is playing) This game does not have an issue in varieties of zones, it has a population issue. The savior of this game (by what seems to be only by prolonging the death of SS) is to the one/group that brings new players to a 2D 11 years old game. There is also another misconception about SSC. I think you meant well, but this isn't it. Sketter [edited to address other posts]

Toronto had some really dry winters over the past few years, this would be the first time in 3-4 years we had snow on x-mass Mother N. is just making up for lost time i guess. It has been crazy in TDot and by the looks of it, more snow on the way. At least if its going to be cold, let it snow.....at least it looks nice. Sketter

First off i would like to apologize personally to you SyrusMX. Your right, this is very annoying and after the first attack, we should have done everything we could have to stop it. I did place a forum IP ban, but he got around that using his school's ip. Right now he is banned on both IPs, and IP ban range, as well with the server itselt. I was !@#$%^&*uming the person learned his lesson, but it seems not. Since the second attack we have started looking for a new forums system. We should have something very promising in 24 hours. Again I'm really sorry for what happened again. We are Fusion have never attacked RedStar in such a manner, that it has impacted the players in such a degree. We have never attacked RedStar's forums system. The zone itself is secure. passwords, FTP accounts and are very secure, I'm the only one that has FTP to the zone. As for staff password wise, after the first time the forums were hacked the first thing done was all staff passwords changed, and i became very anal to my upper staff and made them change all their passwords before giving them the new passwords. The only flaw here would be on my part to use an old forums system that isn't really worked on much anymore. But that is changing. Yavaris, sadly the hacker known as Fox-1, is in fact the culprit. That user is in fact banfreed in RedStar, as well as staff in the zone. Not that it would matter to many, (or to even yourself) i do find that Redstar staff lack of action to be supportive, or to be more accurately, ignoring what is going on. Yes i guess it would make RedStar look bad, but I don't see any of you doing anything to defuse the issue of Fox-1. (who is part of RS staff) As SyrusMX put it, Sorry again SyrusMX. Request Forum admin to lock topic? The issue has been address and dealt with. Sketter ______ SSCI Fusion Co-owner

Keeping this short and sweet... I think it would be nice if when we click on "file>open", in the open box, when you click once on a map, you get a preview of the map. Similar to the one used in Adobe Photoshop Open box. When you click on an image there, you get a preview of what the image looks like under the box. For those that have many maps to look though, and instead of opening and closing every map, i think this would be an excellent future...at lest it would have been very usefall for me today... Well hope yo find this to be interesting enough to consider. Sketter PS. DCME rules!

arena coords added to mini map and main map.
Sketter replied to Sketter's topic in Drake Continuum Map Editor
Yeah i set it to 51, but i was wondering for updates, would it be such a bad thing to have that set up as a default? Yes that would be my preference, to have it set as so, but is it standard that everyone likes to use, or just an setting randomly picked. Just an idea, not intended for !@#$%^&*ing. Sketter -
Is diagonals walls really a possibility? I thought that would need continuum to be updated for that to happen first. Sketter

3.1.3 works fine.

arena coords added to mini map and main map.
Sketter replied to Sketter's topic in Drake Continuum Map Editor
Yep -
So what i'm asking is to designate the boxes in group like how in game continuum mini map shows arena coords like G4 or D7 and such, separated by grid lines. I do notice that you can custom up the grids in perfs, but if there was a default setting that shows the separation between the arenas that would be cool, or a new setting grid setting to trigger it off and on. Thanks. Sketter
