thats probably why you need the merv-on-!@#$%^&*s module, which i'm thinking translates commands as well maybe it's a requirement to enable sgcompat to get the bots to function properly all i know is it works
-
easier to read version of above
-
i think i saves the game as server data, because when you ?play it back, everyone in the arena gets specced, 'fake players' enter the arena with everyones' names who were playing when the game was being recorded. You can then spectate each player (by hiting ctrl on their ^names), and watch he whole thing over again, spectating yourself is funny - it even logs what everyone says, and the fake players talk.. lol...
-
rofl, but that would be too cheap. the gamerecord module is sweet, you can spec each player individually - a bot recording video couldn't do that at all, and the quality would be cheap. to do this we would need actual code that works with ASSS, and acts like continuum, maybe the source code from bak's client has what we need, and could use?
-
if mervbot can run on ASSS, can't the others?
-
Yea, it could be setup so that staff doesn't even know the difference. Bots, subgame commands. Until they realize that ASSS has somewhat of a 'root power' into the client/server connection, and can do magical things. Such as the 'you are attached to me!' packet
-
It will just take some adjusting. Subgame is super easy, ASSS is easy. Once learned, ASSS makes many repe!@#$%^&*ive tasks super easy compared to subgame. I would never switch back, subgame is too hard. It is a matter of learning the new syntax of the subgame commands, and learning the new ASSS commands. Actually, Joe Mod won't need to learn the new ASSS commands until he wants to host an event that depends on them. And I forgot, bots can be loaded to ASSS, so TW, and such, can use their bots.

I can switch most zones over to ASSS myself, if they are willing. It's simple. Also, we don't have to worry about converting many subarenas and programming new modules for them. Only the ones that use a bot. Trench Wars will take a little while to convert their TWBot over to a module.

I say 20 things about starting the revolution and one simple question about legal issues. And everyone talks about the legal question. Reflection of real life, eh?

SSRev, Subpace Revival Team: Get rid of all the Hyperpace is a fine example. Cussing is forbidden, and enforced nearly 24/7. When pub chat gets out of hand, rioting or discussing a mature topic, they use ASSS's capability of disabling pub chat. Viola. I find chatting in hyperpace to be a break from the corrupted portion of the community. Examples, maybe proof of this minor law, lies in the fact that HS is surprisingly popular. Come look at the size of spec chat. Recompile a client distribution. And move it forward into the matrix that is the internet. Many people download the game. When they do, for the first time, they hit Play. It says 'invalid password for specified user'. We need to generate random names. Simply execute some code when Continuum is run for the first time after install. Also, include every zone with a ping on the default zone list. I bet 40% of players or more have never hit the download more zones button. I didn't discover that world until after a year of Trench Wars had ruined my skills. Linux users will love this game. It is lightweight. We must put together a package for ubuntu, as well as other large linux distros, that configures Wine/Continuum. Given that our most talented creative writers come up with something the distros can't refuse, Ubuntu and such will also love this game, and include it in their package repository. Linux users will have a ball here. This action will guarantee a boost in ASSS module developers, and contributions to a new client. In other words, lots of dev in all areas. Search engine optimization: Setup a Drupal site. Drupal, as far as I have noticed, is a partner in crime with Google. This CMS is stunningly google friendly. On top of the googley core modules, there are modules that perform additional SEO tweaks and produce googley sitemaps. lots of people are searching for us and not finding us !@#$%^&*S: We need to keep the few module-makers busy. By convincing large zones, mainly TW, EG, Chaos, and DSB, to make the switch. I personally know there are 3-4 active module developers at this time. And I don't think they would have a problem porting these large zones to ASSS. !@#$%^&*SDocs: Do!@#$%^&*entation. The staff of these large zones are going to need fluent do!@#$%^&*entation. Or should I say simple. The current do!@#$%^&*entation is very fluent. We need to make some wiki pages for the average joe operating in ASSS. I need some rest. Pick it up where I left off fellas.

Why do I think subspace is dying? This is going to piss a lot of people off, but the power is handed to noobs. I've never 'mingled' with many people in this game. The only people I know on a personal level are the developers. Half of them quit. Wonder why? Me too. To try and figure that out I look at myself, and my own feeling to 'just quit' already. I feel the urge to stop developing for SS mainly because I need to focus more on real life. Also, in order for me to dev I have to (often times) work for an ungrateful fool. I remember my early years on TWDev. Staff had all the power and treated dev like little slaves. We went through countless 'dev leaders'. These guys were members of staff who wanted the role. They wouldn't do any dev work themselves, instead they just tried to push everyone, limit our access, kick us from the dev team, send out warnings about "if you are inactive you are being axed"... Things of that nature only send progress backwards. You can see how I dealt with such abuse, by creating SSDev. Where there are no rules, you don't have to be active, all you have to do either dev or want to dev. If your life is busy at the moment why do I care? I just hope you find some time in the future to get things going on your end. If you never find the time, thats ok, no reason to remove you from a position that has no power. In my opinion, if you want developers to remain interested, give them the upper hand. I was there when Red Star and Halo was being created, I also helped a lot. Who owns these zones now? Lets just say that they were not around back then. Thus, the owners of these two zones did not help create it, they didn't even add to the population in the early stages by playing. Now, I could be wrong about the current owners, since I don't know who they are, as I haven't bothered with these two zones since the original owners had passed. I tried. I got in touch with whoever owned the zones at one point and they were lazy, inactive, complacent, avoidant, negligent, unresponsive, unattentive, and rude. Much like many people with power in this community. In the midst of this, why do I still care? Because many zone owners and developers out there are genuine people who deserve some help in their pursuit of learning the ropes of continuum development. PriitK has ceased development. We can blame everything on him if we want, but the fact of the matter is that "if he did it, we can do it". Speaking of a new client. Theres a couple good projects going on, and I remain faithful to that. One of these years, we will see a new, open-source client. So I'd like to think subspace is not dying. A few of you are correct, we need more fan sites, we need more exposure on the internet. I can type in many varieties of search terms on google such as "free mmog space ship" "free space combat game" "topdown 2d spaceship combat" etcetera.. Nothing comes up about Subspace/Continuum.. Nothing.. Theres people on forums BEGGING to be informed about subspace, but theres no reply directing them to us. ..And legal issues? Yea.. Lots of people stole graphics from copyrighted games and use it in SS. In my opinion, let those who used another artists' work without permission face the penalty. You need to do some research before using sprites from the web, contact the creator, and get written permission. Are there any other legal issues I'm failing to realize? Bottom line in my opinion has much to do with the granting of power. Some of these guys (I wont say names publicly) seem like they are on a 12 day crack binge releasing their ego upon the masses with their power. Power is granted to those who don't care about the future of the game. Don't push the developers down, give them the ?upper hand, and you will see amazing productivity, and possibly the return of many great, retired developers. But who am I talking to? That's the problem.
-
All a ban really does to those with the slightest intellect is prevent them from using their old names.
-
Obviously, netbans are not secure. Until a better method is utilized on Stray, he will keep getting in. Although, when he is in, he's not a problem. He is simply active in TW leagues. In his defense, if everyone had my login information, as he did, people would use it, inevitably causing problems. I'll be !@#$%^&*ed, looks like I'm the one to blame regarding both issues.
-
Ahh yea he did. Anyways, the bottom line of this issue is that Legas gave me permission to give Stray permission to use his base in hyperpsace. I'll give Resol some slack here, because Legas also gave him permission to use it. So if anyone wants to investigate any further, they must come down on Legas as to why he's permitting multiple zones to use the same material. Well, that's entirely up to him, and is not uncommon. Currently, one single tileset I made, as far as I know, is being used in 9 subarenas of 4 zones. I've been asked permission twice The common 'multi-zonular' developer doesn't care where and when his material is being used, as long as it is being used. I never restricted anything I made, even when it was being used by a major zone. I'll admit, however, if a noob zone owner created a really nice map but lacked in all other departments, then a larger zone strong in those departments decides to steal the map, --thats just wrong. Fortunately, thats not so in this case. The entire issue could be put at my fault, and I would also take responsibility for it. It was Strays notion to use the base in hyperpsace, but I am the one who talked to my buddy Legas and got his permission. Anyway, I don't think any ssc admins will look into this any further, because they would just be har!@#$%^&*ing Legas about his decision to let hyperpace use the base. And nobody needs to be har!@#$%^&*ing Legas, he already quit mapping because of it, leave the dude alone
-
freak, you also asked why he was banned
-
try logging in with the name stray, maybe it will give you the banned message before the invalid password message

His reply is the most relevant post on this thread considering this thread is about him. He just explained exactly what made him feel justified to optimize the base for hyperpace. dunno where you're coming form Ace =P

I left my Hyperspace staff name/password on his computer, we are friends IRL. He went in, gave his account a whole lot of money, and give a whole lot of money to the public. The database was rolled back to before he obtained the money, and he was net-banned for a year.
