How does this statement even make sense? They didn't do anything to help the recession. How do you go so fast from having a record surplus to the major deficit we have now? The reason Canada was able to weather the recession that affected so many countries was because of aggressive policies which were implemented long before. It's stupid to think that any action taken during the recession itself could be seen as helping; really, tax breaks and incentives for defective companies and for the rich? That's your idea of helping the economy? It sure doesn't seem to have done lots or even helped in the States. The Bloc can't win. This comment is just full of stupid. The Green Party isn't actually pro-legalizing weed, that's the Weed Party. In fact, they have a number of sections on their website debunking its non-harmfulness and attacking the Weed Party's claims. No, they would strengthen regulations on how oil sands operate, not shut them down. The very purpose of the Green Party is to help reduce the environmental impact of some of our major industries by promoting newer and safer technological advancements whose effects have been studied, tested and approved. This would only affect any new development projects, and so no, it wouldn't hurt the economy. Love the propaganda, but this can be turned around for any other party. OMG Conservatives spending billions on useless jet airplanes??? OMG Liberals gonna throw my money into useless programs that'll get terminated 2 years down the road?? OMG Green party gonna kill the economy by taxing oil companies? I think we've heard them all from the media no less. The only reasonable way for any party to raise taxes is to do it at a very slow, progressive pace. And the first place everyone but the Conservatives would be looking to hit would be the rich and the wealthy. Why? Because Canada is currently set up so that someone making $128,800 is taxed at exactly the same rate as someone making $500,000 or even $500,000,000,000. The Conservative government has also cut corporate taxes by 25%. So the likelihood of any taxes affecting the majority of the population is really quite low, and will most certainly not be thousands of times greater as you so lovely implied. Attack the conservatives all the time? Have you watched a single debate? In fact, for several weeks and still Harper's tactic has been to scare everyone away from the Liberals due to the coalition thing (of which he himself has been guilty in the past), and to question Ignatieff's ability to lead the country. Harper did this so that the Liberals would be on the defensive the whole time. However, Ignatieff has been doing a fairly decent job at promoting his own platform and what he does intend on doing, moreso than Harper. If you've watched the debates, however, it was the NDP and the Bloc who were doing a lot of slamming against the Liberals and the Conservatives. And in both the English debate and the French one, Harper really beat around the bush on most of the questions. And Ignatieff, well, he was just a broken record constantly repeating himself. --- That aside, using scare tactics to tell others why they shouldn't vote for different parties other than the Conservatives is silly. Why not actually explain, why vote Conservative? Why should I give a damn about them? Why should I not be bothered that they aren't conservative or even fiscally conservative at all? Why should I overlook the fact that their party was found in contempt of Parliament?

For LC, Google Cache: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:LvbuzOxjWhYJ:www.sscouncil.com/guidelines.php+http://sscouncil.com/&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=ca&source=www.google.ca Though, the guidelines are really kind of pointless. Steady pop of 30? Good luck.

April 17th Updates: MySQL database back up; Aliasing commands now work again. Races now track records: ?best, ?trackbest
-
Now you're just playing silly. Establishing a connection means just that, initiating contact with the SQL database, thus creating a connection. It has absolutely nothing to do with keeping an online connection alive (active). Re-establishing a connection entails initiating communication with the db again. Once more, a keep alive signal (your timer) keeps the connection active, it doesn't establish or re-establish the connection itself. We already had the zone connected to the database before, thus, I would "look into finding a way to re-establish a MySQL database connection". However, connecting to my own db server would entail establishing a completely new connection, hence the optional parentheses for "establish a MySQL database connection".

Wah? I'm 100% certain we're talking about two completely different things here.

I don't know what the issue with TWCore is, or if it's even related, but Deva's issue had to do with the difference between the server's mysql protocol (< 4.1), and the actual database's version (>5). So it kept spitting out "Client does not support authentication protocol". I managed to resolve it by doing the following: http://www.digitalpeer.com/id/mysql Kind of silly how it was this simple to fix all along. I'll fix up the credit mod later though. But aliasing commands are now working.

A league is always an interesting idea, but I'm not too sure that Deva really has a dedicated population for it. NR is right in that previous attempts have been made and failed, but I think we went about it in the wrong way. Rather than having informal "tournaments" or disorganized ball games, it would be best if we had a system like Trench Wars, where players could register themselves and their squads, see their rank positions, challenge others at any point in time with or without missing team members, etc. Maybe even link it up with individual player scores from other events, to give those who can't be up on tm hours the opportunity to make points for their team. (Well, unless it's just a BD league, then we only have to worry about one event) Unfortunately, this requires a massive undertaking to code, test, and debug, and we don't really have anyone who could pull this off. Another issue is that Deva only has one squad: Obsidian. We'd literally have to force team limitations, otherwise there'd be no competition.

Just a few comments I guess. 1. Yeah, the zone crashed due to someone's mishap, so it was down for a good 10 hours or so not long ago. But this had happened during non peak hours. Other than that, neither the zone nor the server has gone offline. 2. Couldn't agree more, I'd love to see more participation in the forums. And even, more base and idea submissions like we use to get in the past to add variety to the main pub map. Though I'm still not sure how we could pull off a league; we'd almost have to force limits on teams, so that we don't have 90% of the zone on Obsidian fighting against one or two people on their own. I'm going to look into finding a way to (re-)establish a MySQL database connection, possibly with my own server when I get the time. This way I can get credits to start behaving properly instead of constantly resetting, and start recording time records for things like races and mazes. 3. I lol'ed. This has been an on-going problem in Deva. On the one hand, it's frustrating not being able to win the jackpot and gain credits when everyone is telling you not to do it and whatnot. On the other, winning the jackpot will cause a lot of people to drift off and leave. We never really did find an adequate solution to this issue. So what do you do? Take your pick. In tm's camp, the jackpot gets milked forever, and ultimately everyone is allowed to win. In XDOOM's camp, you just gotta tank the base, grab the flags, and run. It adds a little flavour, and a little rage as well, but don't be afraid. Just ask Mage+ about the good ol' days with doomie As for after events, if they're too repetitive and boring, tell him. I'm not around when he's on, so I'm not even sure what goes on, but afaik he's been hosting elim events and baseduel, while others have been promoting hockey. If you wanna have a race competition, run a maze, play jugger, kick some paintball ass, or whatever, request it. Yell it out in pub to get everyone riled up, it's not hard.

You should consider cross posting this to the news submission forum so that it gets more attention.

I looked through the maps a few days ago; I actually didn't expect the ice map and a few others to be basically the same as the later maps when SOS was around. Lots of interesting stuff in there. Tm basically told me that he really wants to see the old ones (especially the ice one) get put up in main again. So we'll have to do a marathon of old maps soon.

Dunno, but this magical setting seems to solve lots of issues: View > Advanced Options Check or Uncheck Software Emulation

Awesome! I downloaded DCME just to be able to view these. Main map looks a lot like the one that was first put up when the zone was revived in 2005-2006 (I might have it somewhere), but the tiles are quite different. Make sure tm sees this.

Hopefully it'll get resolved soon, check your messages, I PM'ed you all the alias information. I also sent you a follow-up which you should probably read first.

I hate ambiguity :/

Sexy. How does Deathball normally run? The map genre is quite similar to Paintball; you could probably just reuse the module for that. But whose permission exactly did you get to be able to put up the map?

I'll close the topic rather than deleting it, as you never know who might be searching for the same answer. For Trench Wars, you can buy certain items by flying over to one of the safety zones (the light green spots on your radar, typically near the bottom, bottom left, and bottom right of the map) and typing ?buy, or ?buy . The cost of an item will then be deducted from your total points (F2). In specific arenas ran by bots, you might be able to type !buy and !buy , and there may or may not be a restriction on the area where you can purchase them, or other conditions.

I voted for SubSpace, but using the dual form SubSpace/Continuum is just as good. In the end, though, it really doesn't matter all that much as all forms are rampant enough that arguing over this is useless. Sure, newbies might associate the game as Continuum at first, especially considering our primary download portal is called GetContinuum. But once in the game, everyone calls it SubSpace and use the abbreviation 'ss', so it doesn't take very long before they learn to make the association. They may not actually understand the distinction between the client and the game concept itself, but it really doesn't matter as long as they get to shoot and blow things up. It should also be noted that 'subspace' readily derives new terms for related applications: Subgame, Sublog, SubChat, Subspace2, SSME, etc. Changing the name won't change the state of the game, nor will it help move anything forward.

March 5th Updates: Minor bug in Paintball fixed, where the scores were being added to the opposite teams. Credits should no longer reset when the zone recycles. MegaJackpot has been added to the main arena. It's designed SOS-style, meaning that the multiplier will only take effect when the jackpot is won. Use ?start/?stop to activate it - try to restrict its usage to the weekend. Minor proximity bug with recent buyables fixed.
-
I just hope that whoever took up the role as server owner realizes that Hoch is most likely no longer going to pay to keep it running. And I'd hate for everyone to start scrambling around asking what happened to the zone a month later.
-
Who pays for the server?
-
The following buyables have been fixed and placed back in the zone: burn noanti zero warp nocloak shutdown ?buy freq should also be working properly now.

I assume you're currently playing in Trench Wars, in which case the settings are very oriented towards one-hit kills, and so you gotta be careful. In most other zones like Chaos, Death Star Battle or Extreme Games, for instance, ships are more hardy, so it takes a little more effort to kill and be killed. Don't be afraid to explore a little.
