  1. I highly doubt that Ahmad was logging in with a different version of Continuum. It's more likely that he was attempting to log in with a bot, but either the VIE protocol is not enabled, or he'd need to be on the VIP list. Assuming this was in SSCX Star Warzone, chances are he was just testing around. You can safely ignore it.
  2. When you rely on others, then of course you're not going to get anywhere. Because you're always going to wallow in the expectation that someone else is going to step up and take over, when in reality, you're just about the only one who truly understands how everything works. Open Source means nothing. Anyhow, there is a partial list of things that need to be done here: http://wiki.minegoboom.com/index.php/Discretion And then Bak's personal todo list here: http://forums.ssgn.net/index.php?showtopic=24105
  3. I'm sure you've run Discretion before, there's still a ton of things left to do. I'm starting to wonder if The Apache wasn't right in saying "This project will fail because you will stop working on it." (misquote or not)
  4. Player names do happen to get reset in time, but squad names don't. At this point, there's pretty much no way squad names would ever get mass-reset without an overhaul in our current system and billing server.
  5. Should consider removing SSCC from the list.
  6. 165$ per month is not the same as 500$ per month.
  7. Sucks, but don't let it drag your world down.
  8. If Windows 7 is the same as Vista, then you won't be able to run more than one instance of Continuum. Maybe someone else can confirm this.
  9. Kill the process (i.e. Continuum.exe) using Ctrl + Alt + Delete. Check to see if you don't have other programs or firewalls that are blocking Continuum from loading properly. See the FAQ for further help: http://forums.ssgn.net/index.php?showtopic=13180&st=0&p=243297entry243297 (See also the part about Windows DEP)
  10. It's easier to explain to people what you need, rather than solely specifying that you're willing to pay.
  11. To be honest, Trench Wars was the only reason I ever stuck around, so I can't really hate on it. I used to really love Death Star Battle, but at some point, I just couldn't connect anymore. TW was the only other zone that I really liked & had been exposed to, and it had quite an enticing player base. I imagine lots of newcomers simply choose to play TW for the same reason: because it seemingly has the highest population. When newcomers aren't used to the gameplay in other zones, then the speed of the ships, the amount of upgrades possible, the number of bullets and bombs and mines you can throw all barely matter. Where it gets boring is the fact that SubSpace feels like an oversized browser game of asteroids; repetitive, old, and has nothing new to offer. But maybe that's just me.
  12. Firstly, Continuum isn't crashing, it's stalling while it's trying to establish a connection. This can take quite some time, up to 45 seconds for some users. Your system is just trying to be cautious with what it's allowing Continuum to execute, and Continuum is trying to verify that nothing is attempting to manipulate it, which can cause the connection and the loading of the game engine to be delayed. If it's subsequently disconnecting you after connecting and loading the zone's main arena, then that's a different issue. For this, you need to verify that other programs, scanners, firewalls, other games, and so on aren't affecting Continuum in any way. You might also be spiking right after loading the zone, which could cause your connection to drop completely. I suggest playing around with Continuum's options and Advanced Settings to see if there are things you can enable or disable. Try Advanced Options > Software Emulation, for instance (example image here). If it's a resolution problem, see if this can help: http://forums.ssgn.net/index.php?showtopic=13180&st=0&p=224995entry224995
  13. I don't actually own either system, but my friends pretty much all play on Xbox 360.
  14. Why not, um, just ask Purge? >.>
  15. So... What exactly is new in 4.0?
  16. Well, first and foremost, ask yourself why? Why should I choose to visit your forum amongst the millions already on the web? What makes your forum unique? What makes me want to go back? Forums are best created when you already have a primary website (or other medium) that naturally generates visitors. And for your website to generate visitors, it needs to have both content and a theme. I should be able to just visit the front page of your site and immediately understand what it's for. Since you state it's roughly a gaming site and whatever, then maybe you should post up some gaming related articles. Put up your opinion on certain stuff. Give people a reason to read and agree or disagree. Get them prepped and motivated to talk back. Put up some visuals and have your own logo. People do actually consider the colours, visuals, and catch phrases when they visit. No broken links. Promote your website. Go visit other forums and websites and promote your site from there. Put it in your signature with a spiffy catchline and whatnot. Submit your site to every existing search engine. Updated content and keywords will allow search engines to rank you up, and the more places that link to your site, the better. Also consider looking up Search Engine Optimization tips and how to add metadata. Reply to topics and start up new conversations on things everyone can relate to. What's currently going on in the world? Create controversial topics and have a controversial opinion. You can easily create yourself a second account to separate your admin account. You can also use one of the more subtle tactics, and talk to yourself using multiple accounts. It sounds ridiculous, but it shows prospecting newcomers that your forum is healthy and active.
  17. It generates invalid resource errors when calling socket_close(x) at line 85 if it fails to reconnect after the first time. You could cheat and check to see if it's a valid resource (is_resource(x)) before attempting to close it, but that doesn't really address the issue and defeats the purpose of trying to reconnect. Other than that, kudos on the work.
  18. Uptime != Reliability Plus, not everything he hosts is always up, just take a look at the directory server for one.
  19. This? http://forums.minegoboom.com/viewtopic.php?t=4635 Anyhow, your shipset looks awesome.
  20. Resistance is futile!
  21. There's something that really bothers me about this thread. Why is it that members of the council did everything they could to dissuade the revival and development of other zones, such as Alpha West, but yet, it's perfectly ok to have DSB branched off?
  22. This was my first thought.
  23. You ought to retheme SSQDB so that it fits with SSGN's looks. It would also be nifty if you could include a few random quotes on its main page, maybe put one in a spotlight or something. Keep up the great work though.
  24. Would be better if we didn't have to download the entire repository L.C.
  25. I downloaded Cosmic Rift at one time, but there were never any players online. I gave up on it after that. Does anyone still play?
