  2. Similarly to Thunderjam's #2, here in Ontario, the recent provincial elections debates were only focused on one issue (which is kind of sad). To briefly explain, in Ontario, there are two government-funded school systems : public, and catholic. The whole debate was focused on removing the catholic system, or not. It's not something that really changes anyone's lives to keep both systems, but they were complaining about the Charter of Rights, equality, how Ontario was the only province with this system, etc. etc. However, to me removing the catholic system would be senseless. I attend a French catholic school board, which is basically the best school board compared to all the other school boards (in a study which was shown both on CBC and CTV, it put English public schools in last place, French catholic in first for things such as drop out rate, average, school attendance, etc.). I also don't understand why we should abolish something that has existed since the foundation of Ontario, and why all the catholic school systems which count thousands of students each, would be forced to become private. It's not like they're run by nuns who teach people "God and Jesus are the only ones", they're practically public asides the fact that they don't fear political correctness, even if there are quite a number of non-religious people, muslims, jews, etc. Asides that, the debate ran this way: 1) abolish catholic funding, 2) keep the status quo, or 3) fund other school systems (whether religious or not). Which I think the last one is better; if we enjoy claiming ourselves to be a multicultural society, why not promote it? Why do we have to follow the american way and become a melting pot, which evidentally has never worked. - No need to answer this, the idea failed because people care about money over education. But the gist of that applies elsewhere. Everything is becoming 'politically' corrected by removing everything, but why not promote everything instead. And like I said in another thread, I'd say Merry Christmas to anyone because that's what it is. If there were people to say Happy Hannukah to, I'd do the same.
  3. Umm, I don't see a difference between realise and realize . Blame me for being Canadian, but I'm pretty sure both are correct (unless you're a british or american nationalist).
  4. Last I used Discretion, all I could do was sit in a black modified ASSS zone, receive packets, and chat with other clients (though offline it was ok). I just meant online play has graphical interface. The version of Pyxlz's client off SubSpace downloads (0.182) had quite a few flaws though, and Continuum didn't recognize most of what I was doing besides chat because the client lagged too much, but I believe some of that was improved in later versions. The opposite however, the 0.182 client was recognizing everything that the Continuum client was doing (shooting, moving, bombing, etc.). Anyhow, I didn't mean to put down Discretion, since it's very nicely designed and coded, and has quite a number of things that PSpace doesn't.
  5. Try: Internet options > advanced > browsing > reuse windows for launching shortcuts (disable this) And set FF to check if it's the default webbrowser. Then, anything Internet Explorer is set to open, force FF to open them and !@#$%^&*ociation them (Control panel > Programs > Default Programs > Set !@#$%^&*ociations). And finally, got into Set Default programs (Control panel > Programs > Default Programs > Set Default Programs) and choose "set program as default" for Firefox.
  6. Alright, back earlier this year I discovered an earlier attempt for a second client made by Pyxlz back in 2005 (here). After looking around for it a bit, I managed to find an old version off SubSpace Downloads (download here). Unfortunately though, the version on there is 0.182, and I know he released a few newer versions afterwards. I still tested the old version, and surprisingly it worked, at least for unmodified ASSS zones. Some things were messed up, and it lacked any frontend, but unlike Discretion, Pyxlz's client had both chat and graphical interface. I don't know if he ever respected SS protocol, but it's still a step forwards when the client recognizes Continuum players, server messages, map, and all. Anyhow, I previously asked about it in another thread, and only got the response "why?" and "it's dead", because he was the only person working on it. Instead, I managed to contact Pyxlz afterwards, and after some e-mails passed, he ended up passing the source. Last he wrote in 2005, he said the client was nearly completed, except he never released a stable build later on. In a more recent e-mail he wrote: In the end, the source (last I checked, it is written in C++ with Opengl and DirectX) is not of much use to me, but I'm hoping it will be for someone else. It's currently set up on SourceForge with Subversion, so knock yourselves out (and I'd appreciate someone helping managing the project) : http://sourceforge.net/projects/pspace/

    SSC Biller

The answer is basically yes, but not exactly possible anymore, especially with a player decline all-around SubSpace. At one point, SSZ rivaled equal to SSC. So it's possible, but unless you host good and stable zones with dedicated developpers, your playerbase will probably not increase, giving SSC the upperhand. Most previous non-SSC billers and zone hosts were never stable or reliable enough, and generally collapsed after a short time due to various reasons (money, time, priorities...), or focused so badly on getting SSC slot for their zones, that their own network wasn't a priority.
  9. Trust me, people are crazy enough to think that anything that avoids the traditional use, is more politically correct. An example of this is people avoiding the word "Eskimo" for the word "Inuit", because people thought that eskimo meant "eater of raw meat", but it really means either "snow shoe netters" or "people who speak a different language". And actually Rootbear, I thought you were just kidding, hard to tell sometimes. Anyhow Happy hanukkah to you.

  12. Looking forward to Christmas, the decorations, the food, and the family. That, and New Years are great celebrations with my family, so it's fun. But I'm not looking forward to working on boxing day ; I'm gonna die, because of the overload of shoppers. And if anything pisses me off, it's people attempting to be politically correct by saying "Happy Christmas", "Happy Xmas", "Happy winter break" ; !@#$%^&* that, Merry Christmas. I'd say Happy Hannukah if there were someone to say it too, but don't lame around with expressions. >.> Anyhow, though early, Happy New Years as well
  13. Failure.
  14. Just get the second biller to act like a zone by following ss protocol, and relay the information such as player authentication to the biller and back towards the player. And if you can make chat clients connect to zones in SubSpace, then the biller should be able to function the same way relaying chat to its zones instead of to a chat client (e.g. subchat or chatnut). Though it's all easier said then done, if you follow a structure similar to ASSS it should be possible to falsify the biller as a zone. It would be more efficient then making the biller connect through an ASSS zone, as Cypher originally suggested. Or am I off?
  15. The problem is either !@#$%^&*ociated with a) the installer, or your windows settings (a.k.a. UAC) If a), then reinstall Continuum from this specific link: http://www.trenchwars.org/downloads/Continuum040Setup.exe Elsewise, Try installing Continuum in a directory other than Program Files. (such as your desktop or your do!@#$%^&*ents). -- And I doubt you'd need to, but here's info on Vista's UAC and how to disable it if the problem still occurs. By disabling it, it should allow you to directly download files into your Program Files directory. Please post if the issue persists.

    SSC Biller

Hmm... Considering I counted 17 people (with PriitK) and : And the last updates on the site were made in September 2007, which no members have changed ever since, I'd rather say that list is current. Just because you don't see it, doesn't necessarily mean they're either inactive or simply not members. (e.g. Wonderer is still active, because I had contacted him about GetContinuum.com not too long ago) Though, correct me if I'm wrong somewhere. Edit: BG beat me to it :/

  19. [split topic] ^ More importantly, have you tried updating your zones? To do this, click on the "zone" button. A menu should popup with a listing. Remove all your dead zones (e.g. Extreme Games), and click the download button. Re-add all the zones you removed, and click "OK". Tell me if this works.
  20. Make sure you're using a UNIQUE username. Add numbers and whatnots to your name until you get a username that works, as someone else might already have registered the name(s) you tried before.
  21. SnrrrubSpace is definitely not the SubSpace client for Linux, and was never even completed. Comparably, Bak's Discretion client and Pyxlz's client were far more advanced than Snrrub's attempt. For Linux however, you'll need WINE to run Continuum (if that's all you're trying to do, is play SubSpace with the rest of us) : http://wine.getcontinuum.com/
  22. Is all. ^^

    Spies!

Because I decided you were all too boring with the word association http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OIYFy4dzZw
  24. Does this apply to every zone you play? If it's just in a specific zone, then it's possible that something between you and the server is causing a problem. Try tracing the zone that you get specced in, or whichever one you play in the most. To do this, open up Continuum, select the zone, and click the button that says "Trace". After 100 cycles, post the results up here.
  25. Didn't we already do this for like the 78th time? And in the end Grav comes in and tells us it's all relative to the distance between you and the server (or he could set up his own computer as a server and get maximized results)... Either way, last time I did this, I was in Tokyo, and the closest server was far away China. Here are my current results, (mind you, once again on a wireless connection) http://www.speedtest.net/result/210535942.png
