Chaos/Prem, EG, and Powerball shared arenas
Hakaku replied to Maverick's topic in General Discussion
Cerium, who are you talking to? Who is "you guys"? I'm not even involved in any of the zones that implemented this feature; Devastation runs asss. -
Chaos/Prem, EG, and Powerball shared arenas
Hakaku replied to Maverick's topic in General Discussion
I'm not providing any excuses for anyone, I just said it's more convenient, for me. Saving 2 milliseconds isn't the same thing as saving 2 minutes, for me (Yes, it doesn't always take this long, but most of the time I connect during off-hours, it does). If it takes me 6 minutes to just check things out in 3 different zones (note: I never said anything about trying a new zone), I'm not going to even bother because it's a huge waste of my time. So what am I more likely to do? Ignore all other zones. The added functionality means that I can easily check up on what's going on in other zones and play immediately without having to exit completely, wait 2 minutes, check the zone, and risk the potential of having to wait another 2 minutes to get back in the zone I was originally in. The rest of your argument here is incoherent. You cannot prove nor disprove that having this feature wouldn't tempt players to hop around a little more than they normally would. Which is why it's worth testing out for a bit and then reevaluating its impact. Either way, I'm not justifying that "breaking" the population statistics is a good thing. That's a matter that needs to be addressed, and others have already voiced their concern. I'm not going to be a broken record and repeat this. I've simply stated that I personally don't care. I'm also not the one implementing this feature, and I don't have any intentions of doing so. And if you want me to add to the fire, then Hyperspace's reaction was completely childish and it's a shame. It also highlights the inherent problem of our community: lack of proper communication and lots of in-fighting. But if you so desire for me to join your mob of anger, then I'd add that we needn't 'merge' the zones in a way that causes "detrimental damage". What we need is an alternative solution that explores ways to get players checking more of the entire game out, i.e. beyond the scope of a single zone. Further, we need to take a step back and evaluate the real cause for the more alarming demise of some zones over others. And lastly, if the problem with bot inflation is equally important and doesn't justify the current issue, maybe we should actually address that problem too. Instead of acting like it doesn't exist. -

Personally, I think it's an interesting idea that's worth a shot, and it saves me over 2 minutes of wait time trying to connect to a different zone due to PriitK's biller, and it also entices me to check out zones I otherwise would ignore. Population statistics have been skewed in SubSpace for years, so I really couldn't care less. We all know the game is dead, there's no point in trying to claim that further skewing is somehow an attempt to gain population. If you believe this, you're living in the wrong reality. -
The game will inevitably die, that much has been clear for almost 8 years now (speaking of Continuum of course). But it's more surprising that it even lasted this long to start. So what's going to happen? Nothing. All that is will no longer be. No one will care, as everyone will have lost interest and moved on. Even if a new client should somehow happen to magically pop up, it would take a lot to get lingering players to switch, and more to attract an entirely new generation.

Fairly certain it says NODE.

DirectX Version: DirectX 11 DDI Version: 9Ex Don't rely on the DDI Version, since there are some issues on Vista and 7 where it reports the wrong one.

The exact lag settings are particular to each and every zone and arena. It's quite possible that your internet connection is momentarily spiking, causing you to get automatically placed into spectator mode. Background applications can also place a strain on your connection, and throttling at your ISP level is also possible. You should be able to tell for yourself where the source of your problem is stemming from. If you can't play without getting spec'd at one, then you may want to consider checking with your ISP. If it only occurs when two people are on, does it affect you both, or just one? Is it because of lag between you and the server? (You should be able to obtain a 'trace' from the game menu) Are you both playing in graphic-intense zones? Does one of you get spiked when the other is downloading something (e.g. a new map, etc)?

If you wanted to get fancy, you could turn the blue lines into doors, and then send the goalie a door closed override (using the Clientset module), along with different settings for their spawn (so that they can't warp to centre). Though, I don't know if Clientset has any hooks for Python... Anyhow, keep up the great work

Can you check to see if this is related to Windows DEP? From the FAQ: -
$14 an hour in Canada would only get you a part-time university-level student that most likely has no real experience in game-oriented programming. That or some incomprehensible Indians on the other side of the world. Going through an existing company would cost upwards of $50k for a very simplistic project; something like SubSpace might end up ten to twenty times that amount depending on what direction you wish to take the game. Hiring in-house programmers would be a little cheaper, but you're still looking at a hefty amount if you want reliable and quality programmers. The price isn't much different than in the States, you're still looking at about $53k/year, closer to $70k/year for a somewhat experienced game programmer.

You're listed as a mod under the username 'No_Remorse', and as a developer/arena owner under the name 'nr' in your private arena. Mods and devs don't share the same powers, but you can always check if you're listed in a group using ?lp. I can't really provide a list of staff members, since quite a number are inactive, others have powers specific to certain arenas, and others I'm not sure because tm keeps changing them categories. Also, I'm lazy. The staffing process isn't perfect, and there used to be lots of conflict between tm and XDOOM, with one adding everyone as a mod, and the other triaging the excess. But I've let tm continue to handle the staffing part since he's a lot more involved in the game than I am, and it's only fair. Since we've been on ASSS, he's rarely removed anyone unless there were certain signs of abuse or game manipulation.

You're ranting for no reason. You're still listed as a mod, and Cheese! isn't a sysop or a mod. You might be confusing Quigybobo, who occasionally aliases as cheech & chong. It also doesn't sound like you logged into the right zone. The official zone is called SSCA Devastation.

The list is of notorious users who've left a "vibrant" footprint on the forums, if you will, so it's hard to forget them. Most of 'em were banned for constant and continuous spamming, disrupting, evading, harassing, blatant rule-breaking, drama-queening, and being illiterate among other things. In addition, their behaviour was often if not always linked to how they acted in-game, to their adverse relations with other players, and to silly commotions that happened, causing them to use the forums to vent out their personal issues and rage. At first, there was a lot of leniency towards these players, but it simply became too much and none of them would learn, so they were all axed off the forums. I wouldn't really group you with them, but maybe you are focusing a little too much on complaining about DSB and your bans, when it's not appropriate or even relevant to the topic at hand. While sure, you could read most posts as deviating away from the primary topic and thus see it as hijacking, but the difference is that you're radically shifting the topic in mid-sentence to portray yourself as a victim, a tactic rootbear75 loved to use and abuse so much that it became intolerable. It's not so much that I mind, but why? why should those on this forum care about other people's bans or grudges? Take up the issue with those involved in a private conversation, rather than trail it around in every single post. Or just step up and take action.

Deva's forums are too inactive these days, so you can't really expect much feedback. And, well, we still have the problem that there's only one squad in Deva: Obsidian. So rankings would pretty much be fixed with tm at the top. That's my 2 cents.

BlueT/SSCV Going Offline Indefinitely June 30th
Hakaku replied to L.C.'s topic in General Discussion
Any specific reason why you chose to shut down besides the fact that you haven't touched Continuum in a while? What about your own personal zones? And in case anyone missed it, Lynx is still offering his services: http://forums.ssgn.net/topic/25824-sscv-closing/ -

June 15th Updates: Added a game events module, the following events are now available: Elim Team Elim KillRace Team KillRace Conquer Zombies For mods, just type ?start to view a list of available events, ?start to begin a game, and ?stop to end an active game. You can also type ?rules at any given time during an event to view the game rules. I haven't thoroughly tested all of these, and not at all for team elim and team killrace, so if you notice anything strange, do let me know.

I'm bumping this topic up, since I'll be rolling in an old map into pub soon. I also intend on resetting credits since some users are prizing themselves way too much.
-
It's Portuguese.
-
June 1st Updates: Credits are now tied back down to the database, so they should no longer reset and are thus reliable. The commands ?best and ?trackbest have been fixed for all races and mazes.

What specs are you looking for specifically? If the errors weren't so generic, it would be easier to isolate the issue imo. Windows Vista (Home Edition) SP2 32-bit OS 1200x800 DirectX 11 (DirectDraw Acceleration: n/a, Direct3D Acc.: Enabled, AGP Texture Acc.: n/a) ATI Mobility Radeon X1400

I tried running them both, and I get the access violation error as well when choosing DirectX 7 or 9. For OpenGL, it crashes entirely upon loading in the second one. In the first, it goes to a black screen and sits there for quite a while; the game eventually did load, but I could only manage 2-3 fps, so everything was really choppy and when I pressed 'esc' to exit, it crashed.

It was expected. Vote splitting in key areas essentially gave the Conservatives the upper hand. But now I'm really curious to see how well the NDP holds out in Quebec, and what will come of the Bloc, now that Gilles Duceppe has stepped down as leader.
