Can you upload the original image somewhere, so that it'll be much easier to fix & edit.
-
(Although I can't affirm this for WINE, but this is true for Windows) Either restart Continuum, or restart your computer and the problem should fix itself. Otherwise, it's probably because a firewall is blocking Continuum.

He can probably only see the who's online part, or the last registered users. At any rate, it's not super difficult to figure it out... Spoiler! --Click here to view--

1. Firewalls 2. DEP That's your entire list, nothing more, nothing less. http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?showtopic=13180

Apparently the apathy everyone has displayed towards this idea wasn't clear enough, so let me spell it out for ya: The public does not care, does not need to care and does not want to care about Hybrid. There is only three cases where joe player will ever deal with the core: (1) When disputing over what core to use. (2) When attempting to take over a zone for the nth incarnation. (3) Casually for the game when they're actually being useful and/or helping develop. These issues are already addressed quite well by the subforms here. Your forum, !@#$%^&*uming anyone wastes time to register and post, will consist entirely of a/s/l questions and general trivia bull!@#$%^&* that could be answered by anyone who's IQ is higher than their shoe size. Once again: Nothing to see here. Move along. [/irony]

But how is a continuum-political forum going to improve traffic? How is it derailing traffic? -- The entire game as a whole has seen a decrease, and this will in turn affect the amount of new players joining the forum and participating. SubSpace's peak was a few years ago, and people have to stop lingering in the past. You won't gain population by trying to say everything will be in one place. At the time of the peak, there was more than one forum (most zones had their own forum and there were various general SubSpace forums and websites). There are larger factors at hand than the fact our community isn't centralized. And it all starts down with the game that PriitK refuses to update for over five years now. And I can prove this by comparing the longest running MMO: Furcadia, which counted 70,000 regular players last year alone (May*), and it's just as 2d ugly as SubSpace.
-
SubSpace/Continuum has never been centralized per se, except for when VIE still ran its servers. So saying that it's the one cause for a shrinking playerbase* is missing the entire picture (were this true, then the in-game community shouldn't be affected as much as you make it seem). If you compare games like Infantry who still have a stable population and a centralized forum et al, you'll notice their online userbase is far lower than SubSpace's (keeping in mind in-game population difference). Multiple websites may not be a great thing, especially if you want more users to participate in one single location, but it does permit search engines to retrieve information over a vaster region of content, technically improving incoming traffic.

Hmm, then it probably has more to do with the specific zones that PriitK hosts, rather than just those two SSCU zones (I know some SSCX zones are hosted by PriitK, but I don't know which ones). Well it was a shot in the dark to be honest. During previous biller outages, this seemed to be the case each time; but I guess as others explained it, it has a lot to do with the server's temporary memory.
-
As someone who used to play Trench Wars all the time, I can tell you that the only reason people aren't appended a ^ beside their name is because they haven't logged out of the zone since the biller went out, therefore all information prior to the outage will remain the same (usage will just be added unto previous figures, but it'll reset when the biller goes back online). Like Polix explained in the other thread, the zones aren't forced to endlessly recycle because of the SSC Biller Proxy, which acts like a safety net for when the biller goes out. People tend to underestimate Subgame though; the biller only handles and saves informations sent by the zone itself, but in order to do that, the zone has to record primary information first. Also, the only zones that have ^ appended to their usernames are Trench Wars and 17th Parallel, since both of these zones have been hosted on the same server (superb.net). DSB is not hosted on the same server, which is why it gives a popup.
-
Pretty much. But at least this would confirm my !@#$%^&*umption that the SSC biller is hosted on ThePlanet.
-
Yes, I was !@#$%^&*uming that he was hosting his biller and server on the same computer/internet connection, because that's the message he implied. I wouldn't recommend finding out your own IP address because it won't work most of the time, and it creates more problems for those who have a dynamic IP.
-
I don't know why L.C. referred you to that, but your IP should just be " 127.0.0.1 " (this is the same thing as localhost). And because this is your own IP, you won't be able to add your own zone directly from the download list, but rather you'll have to add it manually. Press the "Add custom..." button from the Add/Update Zone menu in Continuum. The "Zone Name" can be anything you want. The IP Address should be " 127.0.0.1 ", and the port will be whatever port your zone is.

To be straight-forward, the problem with making a new SubSpace client has nothing to do with how it's coded, but more to do with Continuum's closed-sourced client which is now the game's standard. Trying to emulate Continuum is very difficult for just that reason, and you also would have to make sure Continuum would recognize the client, meaning that you'd need to incorporate the entire SubSpace protocol et al. as well. Currently, the closest client to becoming the next "SubSpace" is Bak's Discretion client which works on all major operating systems (Windows, Linux, etc.). As for making it a web application, that would probably be much more difficult, although you can take a look at Dr.Brain's Chatnut client here. But anyhow, welcome back to the community. If you'd really like to give it a shot, there's nothing stopping you. But I'd recommend not trying to make the online version SubSpace/Continuum-client compatible.

Photos prove existence of 'uncontacted' Amazon tribe
Hakaku replied to candygirl's topic in General Discussion
I saw this in another news report earlier on. They're among about 100 or so uncontacted tribes left in the world, most of them actually living in Brazil. The government wants to create protective mesures so that their territories aren't exploited by illegal logging and the such, but in this case it would require the help of the Peruvian government as well. And from the sounds of the article, they'd rather protect these tribes from outside contact as much as possible. -
Unfortunately as of yet, no one has ever been able to port Continuum to a Mac computer. Continuum is afterall a Windows-only program due to its heavy reliance on DirectX (although you can cheat on Linux by using a patched version of WINE).
-
Although it doesn't have some of the functionality of Subchat2, from what I see so far: great work. Edit: One remark I have is that the text won't scroll upwards after I type something, making it harder to notice if someone replied.

Before you can even consider getting a slot, you have to have your zone more or less developped (i.e. a functional public arena). And it's always good to try and attract some visitors to get opinions about your zone before, like that you can improve on the weak spots. If you can't host your zone on your own, there are a number of non-ssc server hosts out there (such as BlueT). Unless you have really good connections, only after your zone is considered stable (i.e. you're not constantly changing things, settings, game type, etc.) should you seek out for SSC hosting. As it stands, probably the only SSC host that will accept zones is SSCI, so you'd have to find a way to get in contact with Death+, or whatever other host you ask.

Who knows if he's quitting, that's entirely his own decision in the end. But you can always PM him your regards.

Well, I can't edit the pdf myself (since I didn't create it) without entirely remaking it, but http://guide.subspace.net redirects to http://getcontinuum.com anyways.
-
Well, I didn't want to create a whole topic for this, but since the original link went down I thought it best to attach it here for future reference. It includes an overview of SubSpace, some history, and interviews. Note: I did not write this. SubSpace_Essay.pdf

Make sure in your download list that you have the proper directory servers. Replace whatever is there with " sscentral.sscuservers.net, ssdir.playsubspace.com, warpath.bluetoast.org " (you can change the order if it helps)

So... How long before we can get a dedicated bot back up? :> On a side note, fancy new map.

Not necessarily old time screenshots, but I thought I'd keep the thread going:

Don't worry about the trace too much, it seems the server is at fault (4.8%) according to your packetloss, meaning that somewhere between your ISP and the server you're getting lag/packetloss. Seeing how you also have wireless, the 0.3% should be expected (I myself get 3.9%). Basically if the problem is recent, the lag might just go away in a bit. But for now all I can recommend you is to avoid running other applications in the background and be as near as possible to your modem to see if it affects your lag. Try playing in other zones in the meantime if you really can't play in MG.

Hm... Now where's SyrusMX when you need lolcats?
