  1. I actually second Purge's suggestion. The problem with "Romantic Dinners" is that you feel you have to go out of your way and make something extravaganza, but the biggest problem is, will you actually enjoy the food? It's like suggesting to make French Cuisine and eat "Escargot", simply because it sounds fancy; but c'mon, snails? Just clean up the place, add a nice table setting and some candles, and make something simple like spaghetti with a good sauce, and have a bowl of salad prepared along with some garlic bread. And of course, some wine.
  2. Purge, you're not actually suppose to take a picture of MSPaint; you're just suppose to edit the bottom part.
  3. Go into bin/debug/testgrounds.exe then just drag and throw that screen around. Lol, I lost it outside the edge of my screen :X
  4. At first I thought this was in my own city, since there's also a high school called Gloucester High, but then realized it was in the States. kinda crazy

  6. The ssbase is a poor excuse for a website, and shouldn't be imitated (it's not even a news site). But here are some good examples of previously active news sites: sscentral.com (2001), sscentral.com (2004), subspace.net (2000), subspacehq.com (2000), subspacehq.com (2002), subspace.nu (2000), subspacerealm.com (2001), subspace.ogaming.com... So in comparison, I'd say that dark colours and blue shades seems to be a recurring theme on central news websites. Although seeing how it's phpnuke, I'm sure you could provide a secondary layout just for ThunderJam
  7. The SSCC network is back online, however I don't think the ports are being properly forwarded. So if you need to download a zone, you'll have to add it manually. Check this topic for more details and all Zone names, ports, and IPs. http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?showtopic...mp;#entry224139
  8. ^Nope, the SubSpace news website went offline a long time ago, because the owner failed to maintain and promote it, so those who were contributing (aka only Smong) gave up. My opinion is that the theme colours make it hard to read, otherwise I like it. Although you should definitely consider adding some more content into it.
  9. The SSCC network is back online If you're still experiencing problems, please add the zone's name, port, and IP address manually by clicking "Add custom..." in the download list. These can be found here. Name: SSCC Metal Gear CTF Port: 14000 IP: 209.59.175.210 Name: SSCC Desert Storm Port: 19911 IP: 209.59.175.210 Name: SSCC Halo Port: 13000 IP: 209.59.175.210 Name: SSCC Star Wars Empire Port: 11111 IP: 209.59.175.210 Name: SSCC The Complex Port: 10600 IP: 209.59.175.210 Name: SSCC RedStar Port: 5000 IP: 209.59.175.210
  10. Try again, the zone was offline over the weekend (along with the rest of the SSCC network) and it seems to be back up at the moment. Read here and here for more information on what happened. If you still can't download it from the list by the time you read this, please add the name, port, and IP address manually by clicking on the "Add custom..." button: Name: SSCC Metal Gear CTF Port: 14000 IP: 209.59.175.210
  11. Well, what zone are you trying to enter? Can you post us a screenshot for comparison (Print Screen button in-game)? Normally when you expand the minimap by pressing the alt key, no players should appear on it. However, they/dots should appear on the regular radar in the bottom right. People who use stealth (home key) will disappear from the radar, since that's what it does. Also, try this: In the main menu, go into View > Advanced Options. Then, select "Radar Trimming", "Ships", and at the bottom select "Software Emulation". You can also play with other settings, but tell me if this changes anything.
  12. Are you sure you entered a zone that has players in it? Is this more a graphical issue, as in do you still get chat, radar, energy bar, f1, etc.? Does it say somewhere that you've been disconnected from the server?
  13. I got 'em from the old Deva website 2001 maybe? http://web.archive.org/web/20010825091016/...reenshots.shtml Edit: Wayback Machine seems to be offline at the moment, so here's an alternative gallery with all the images and some uploaded: http://subspace.vndv.com/
  14. A few hours passed, so I'll guess it'll be at least a day before it's restored: http://www.sscouncil.com/forum/index.php?t...0.msg333#msg333
  15. ^fancy work, I didn't expect this to be added so quickly.
  16. No, you have the right idea. The only problem is, with just HTML, it's not exactly possible to do anything complicated (with just 1 option), so yes, the image would be distorted by resizing it. Without enabling uploads, maybe another solution could be to allow the html tag (I don't know if you can specify certain html codes or not on IPB). Unless someone has a better solution? :/
  17. Yes, but people from Trench Wars, or EG, or wherever else won't want to register an account on another forum just to contribute to a wiki. And I'm not sure if it still applies, but I also remember Polix mentioning a minimum amount of posts required before being able to edit the wiki as well. Edit: I'm referring to people not registered; anonymous IPs. Hmm, I would have thought IPB to be more versatile than PhpBB (at least for this), but I guess I was wrong. Then maybe a solution to this could be to have a static image size, maybe something around 150x150px...
  18. Alright, since I've been ignored elsewhere on this board a few times, I'd like to make three remarks about the wiki: The first is, although not exactly a pressing issue (or entirely necessary), it would be nice to incorporate Wikipedia-style reference tags into the SSWiki. This could help prevent certain inacuracies, or just add more professionalism into the written work. But more specifically, it would help deal with my third idea/request below. http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Cite/Cite.php Secondly, since uploads are disabled, I would like to request the ability to resize images in the same format as HTML tags. From my understanding, implementing such code should be relatively simple on IPB, and the result could look something like this: [resize height="100" width="200"]http://imageurl.com/img.gif[/resize]This in turn saves the trouble from having to upload two sets of images all the time, one resized so that the image doesn't cover 99% of the space, the other being the actual image linked to (As so.).* Three: Activity on the Wiki is relatively low, and at this point in time I don't understand why anonymous IPs should not be allowed to participate. As it stands, the Wiki feels as if only Wiki mods are suppose to edit it, since that's what they're "hired" to do. But in reality, putting the burden mostly on a few select people demands a lot of work, when they may not even have the knowledge to contribute to most articles. Even though this may mean that vandalism could increase**, contributions could increase as well. (And it adds a job for the wiki mods) *Images bring the article to life rather than keeping it dull, and I could see the benefit of adding things like screenshots beside a zone's description. **If it becomes such a problem, why not just disable it happens?
  19. Hmm, the server doesn't seem to technically be going offline, it looks like it's spiking out
  20. Evidently, Sama fell overboard
  21. Compare your images, in the first, it's 256 colours, in the second, it's compressed to about 32 colours. With the converter I have, I get about 46kb when I compress the original to 32 colours, while the colour scheme remains relatively similar; so I might even assume that the image is reduced to 24 colours, but this all depends on how the compression is done.
  22. http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/4973/fishyvq0.gif lol tm^
  23. I would assume not without being able to access information from the biller itself, which will basically remain impossible, as we still don't even have centralized scores available online yet either. (unless you have that much free time on your hands and compile a full list of usernames)
  24. And in conclusion: This thread is getting absolutely no where.
  25. The best compression format is by far .gif ; and seeing how SubSpace has mostly 2d graphics, it's advantageous. The .JPG extension should only be used for photos, because it'll distort the quality, while .PNG is good all-around. Anyhow, I've attached two folders below. the first is compressed at 256 colours, and the second is compressed at 16 colours. Although there's not a great difference, the filesize is slightly more reduced in the second, but you also get some quality loss unlike the first. Anyhow, if you need any other help, don't hesitate to ask. Shipset085.rar Shipset086_loss.rar
