Well I wouldn't say Fusion is a great example, since it primarily strived off the remaining population from RedStar, an SSC zone, soon after it went down. And although it could be argued that RedStar was empty near its end, there still was a population there. The staff's failure to maintain the zone led it to that point, which made the zone unappealing to both new and older players at the time. (on an unrelated note, what happened to Fusion anyway?) However, having the ability to chat across zones is one of the most beneficial ways to attract population if your zone doesn't maintain a constant average of players, since it gives the ability to organize games and let players know when others are in the zone. Without it, most players won't bother to remain speccing in an empty zone until someone else comes, and an empty non-ssc zone is worse off than an empty ssc-zone. Though I agree with the rest of your analysis.

I understood it exactly like rootbear did, and I'm kind of dissapointed even freakmonger didn't read the faq (or search the issue for that matter). And no they're not the same. The uncentered ship problem is caused when a user is using a resolution that isn't the same as their desktop. The problem occurs when Continuum is minimized into alt+tab mode and then flipped back into the game; basically Continuum refreshes itself to conform with your desktop settings, while the screen displayed is smaller than that given resolution, making everything seem displaced (technically the ship is centered in Continuum). This is easily fixable by alt+tabbing back again or exiting/re-entering the game. http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/1333/scrcontoe2.png

Let me know if the following works:fg_ctf.so
-
View -> Advanced Options -> Software Emulation
-
Change your keyboard settings rather than using the ALT codes, it works fine for me.

Hopefully we can get all the bugs fixed. I would still appreciate if you could help though.

Although I never got any message in October nor e-mail, I did appreciate your ?message in late November. Since Deva has had a lot more contact with Death+, I was hoping to get in contact with him, but it simply never happened. So I asked some people who confirmed via chat that this was true, so I immediately warned the entire zone that there was a possibility for it to go down within the upcoming month. I was criticized for overreacting by putting it in the news.txt, but hey, it did happen Asides, it's a good opportunity to make several changes in the zone.

If someone hasn't spread the word yet, thanks to Snrrrub, Devastation is back up as "SSCA Devastation". You'll need to redownload the zone off the list first though. One of the biggest changes you'll notice is that the zone is now hosted on an ASSS server. This means that the original Deva-Bot won't be around (since it spits a lot of red errors), but we'll still have a mervbot around to spam chat when a player enters. It also means there will be limited functionality for a while; events are going to be missing, but hopefully we can get them up and running sometime. We're also not currently connected to any database, so flagwin credits aren't awarded, nor does ?alias, or ?donate among other commands work (sorry Gibbit, you'll have to earn that bacon ). For most other things, everything that was used with the bot (e.g. ".buy bacon") is now a server-side command, so use "?buy bacon", "?credits", or private message "/?lag" or "/creds" to check another player's lag or credits. There are several known bugs, hopefully we can squish them along the way. But feel free to report anything that's abnormal. ^^

No, it's not. People have been advertising other games on every forum the second SubSpace was released. Actually, in TW, game discussions are a really popular subject. It doesn't discourage people from no longer playing Continuum; rather it has the opposite effect, since you're engaging the community into discussions that relate to them. If you run a forum, you can't expect to force everyone to talk only about one single topic for years on end, and that's where everyone here has it all wrong. If you never take into consideration your audience, then your audience will go elsewhere. The problem with the SubSpace Forums (i.e. ssforum.net) is that it's strongly geared towards SubSpace (tech help, dev, zones, clients, biller, sscouncil, banG, drama, etc.) with only a bit of other stuff here and there. This has as an effect that talking about other subjects and games don't get as much attention, because face it, not everyone playing Continuum is a rich kid with filthy money to spend on every game he sees in the candy store. Ok, I'm evidently exagerating, but my point is that some if not most people just aren't interested as much in talking about other games. As such, the Games Forum was a bad idea when you take into consideration the preferances of the average user on this forum and the fact that this has been tried before. But don't blame it on the fact that it's detrimental to the game, since you'll start sounding like Al Gore. I also strongly disagree with this. He gave it a chance during the holidays for roughly 5 to 6 days depending on your time zone. And frankly, Chambahs is right, that once Christmas hits and soon thereafter, there are generally less people active on the boards. Count and compare the average, it's not that difficult. To add, Polix specifically hid the board in the bottom of the abyss, under the Zones section (where most people never bother looking), and had as a rule of thumb to not displace any other threads. This had as an effect that pretty much only moderators and Chambahs knew about the existence of the forum. The minute he saw that Chambahs wasn't creating anymore threads, he ceased the opportunity to destroy the board. To be honest, I'm not picking sides; but there were huge flaws in either ideologies of going about this.

Because there simply aren't that many zones using ASSS, and those who do, still like to keep some code for themselves in order to maintain a certain level of competitivity and so that others don't spawn a near-exact replica of your own zone. That aside, MGB's forum has lots of available resources, just look through the 'custom projects' and 'ASSS questions' sections. That plus there's also smong's website and the ASSS wiki which you shouldn't overlook. Anyhow, best of luck with the zone, and make sure to keep us all posted when you officially open.

I had a similar problem at one point, but I can't remember if it was before I upgraded to Vista or after. Either way though, I managed to fix part of it by using the install CD and repairing the drive.

Actually, non-standard web code can be a good thing. And often, web designers choose to exploit them rather than work against it (e.g. there's a flaw in IE6 that can prevent specific CSS from being sent to the browser, without using any fancy code). Yes, not everyone will choose to do it, but in my opinion cross-browser compatibility is a far more important achievement than respecting W3C standards when creating a website. And just because a web designer uses a browser such as Firefox doesn't mean that they'll code any better. And no, my argument is for all websites to be considered. I've designed websites before and made them 100% compliant to respective standards (and had them verified): and surprisingly it was Firefox that failed over Internet Explorer. The standards don't specify everything, so it often leads to minor differences between how IE and FF (among other browsers) choose to handle them. And the problem with the Acid test is that all the browsers who pass the test, have specifically geared themselves to beat the test, and not actually fix larger problems. Though I'm not advocating IE as a better browser, it has its pros and cons just like any other. But I think it's ridiculous to become a fanboy of any browser when you don't even understand the importance of having that other 60% of your customers able to view and navigate your website properly.
-
Btw, the Acid Test is designed to break browsers by effectively stretching W3C's standards to the limits; it doesn't actually give a good perception on how the browser itself handles the web as an entirety, nor does it give any indications concerning reliability, support, or security of the browser. A great example of this is Safari, which has done amazingly well on the third Acid Test, but it fails horribly as an all-around browser.

well reindeer/moose, but it's still good But no, I was just posting that map for whatever purpose if it helped, I don't actually expect anyone to use any of it.
-
Well I doubt the violence in Halo caused it, since from the sound of it, the kid never even played the game yet since his parents refused him to have it. So it's not so much the video game as much as the hype/obsession to possess it which led to him at that point. But really, for the kid to do that, he has some serious issues.
-
The moose and tree are definitely stuff we'll need to add this year For reference, here's the older map I found. devaxmas_1_.lvl

Here, let me break it down for you. Here's where I changed his position: The relationship between these questions and statement doesn't depend on whether Bak answers yes or no, rather I'm telling him that his argument is antiquated and dates back to times of colonialism. Both the belief that Native Americans are savages that need to be converted, and the attack on Vietnam are directly linked to colonialism. If you haven't understood from the three preceding posts, that's the gyst of my argument. And while Natives and Vietnam aren't a position he took (or could have taken considering that the latter was ~40 years ago), I'm attacking his colonialistic perspective that all Arabs are more uncivilized than Westerners.
