A better idea is to prevent people posting clickable hyperlinks untill they have a postcount over 5. for example instead of this flabby.tv people with a small postcount would instead see there posts changed to this flabby.tv

Why is Continuum Population rate going down?
doc flabby replied to Hitec's topic in General Discussion
which is only possible on ASSS that new zones just don't use for their zone(s). How many SSC servers offer ASSS hosting? I think hockey zone is the only SSC zone now that uses ASSS. -
Why is Continuum Population rate going down?

TW's out of all the zones seems to me to one of the most imaginative zones that does make good use of continuum's features. The main tw arenas do not use much of continuum's features, but the sub arenas do alot. Best thing about tw is that downloading the main map takes about 5 seconds. I think that adds to its popularity. who wants to wait 5 mins for a level to download to try out a new game. Tw is also probably the only zone with a wormhole surfing arena ?go surfing in tw Thats the kind of unique event that makes people come back to tw. I think another thing that tw does well is that it emerses you in a world, all the ships are distinctly different each has its own personality. Events are created around the personality of each ship. playing pretty much every other zone its hard to tell the difference between some ships. The thing that seems to be lacking in alot of new zones is imagination. Thats why i was upset when HS got shutdown, it was one of the few innovative and imaginative zones about. It also had ships with personality, each ship was different. I think making the ships sufficiently different from each other is important to the success of a zone. -

Why is Continuum Population rate going down?

Thats what i've been trying to say, people shouldnt get so caught up the 2d aspect. The number of d's doesnt matter. i mean look at starport, subspace has superiour graphics and was devopled 5 years prior. What subspace/continuum needs is active devlopement & advertisments. One play to look into advertsing would be at the http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/ comic site. Alot of our target audience (i.e. male aged 14-25) visit that site. Devlopement is a more difficult problem... -

Worryingly these were made 5 years after, around 2002...and still being activly developed my point being people actually play these crappy games. subspace is several levels better than these games. -

This game is the closest i have seen to subspace. It appears to have been heavily infuenced by subspace. it is more of an space trading game tho. http://www.starportgame.com http://www.starportgame.com/image/10.jpg -

then why are you still here? go play them. Lets compare them Alliegence wins in pure numbers subspace only has 8 ships and 3 weapons. However i think if you looks at the number of zones we do have a larger variety of ships and weapons than Alliegence Sounds like subspace to me subspace doesnt have force feed back or 3d audio i dont think my $$ explosion image really counts subspace is pretty much like that Subspace has more alliance options with squads, freqs and a much large number of game types. Same as subspace i dont think we have investor or commander in subspace. new players just do what they want subspace is not a strategy game. same as subspace (wav marcos anyone) press F11 in subspace. The problem is very few modern games match the depth of subspace, they are all very simple now (for the m!@#$%^&* market)... i get bored with newer games quicker than i used to they don't challenge me. I think if people could find a game that was really significantly better than subspace, subspace wouldnt be here still.... -

Why is Continuum Population rate going down?

Organization has nothing to do with. Extremly disorganised stuff can be highly sucessful. Alot of people dont like things to be well organised and neat (im one of them) Maybe the population is dropping because popular + innovative zones that people play get shutdown. I think also the lack of client dev is having an impact. Continuum added lvz, but nothing extra has been done for 4 years... -

i think it would be sweet to have 3d ship models and levels, while keeping the 2d perspective. That way you can have lots of cool lighting effects and nice graphics while keeping it true to its roots and its top down perspective plenty of multiplay 3d games already (anyone rember decent, it is very much like subspace but in 3d, you can upgrade your ship etc) I think an interesting thing to try however would be a first person turret view. so if you attached as a turret you would be fps

Im sure there is an option to restrict the number of players in subgame. !@#$%^&*uming 200 players is max a zone can handle and not have too much lag. There are about 30 zones 26 x 200 = 5200 players online max at a time currently there about 756 (all SSC zones) + 475 (TW) = 1231 players in all zones There is alot of spare capacity in the other zones (ie not TW) -

I have thought about this myself. It it my belief whist alot of the code of Continuum is new, it also contains some code from SubSpace. This is one of the main reason why Prittk is so reluctant to release the source code and why the binary is so protected. The protection doesnt stop cheating. If anyone has used CE in action, the protection in continuum is designed to stop revevrse engineewring of any kind. Additionally SubSpace its self also operates as what is known as a darknet. ie. a netswork that opertates outside of the normally monitbered channels. That in itself could pose a problem if it became popular. Some people do not like networks they dont control, or can moniter. the "war on terror" is used alot nowdays to shut things down -
ironically there are still more players in HS than 17th even though HS has been shut down
-
these web addresses dont work only forums.sscentral.com works
-
mill you're just another hater in this game, who doesn't care about the players. HS will come back. Its just sad it was forced to leave in the first place. SSCI lost alot more from this situation that HS did. It was a lose all round situation losing HS was a loss to community. The least SSCI could have done is give HS warning so they could find another host. An interesting thing to consider is that HS is probably one of the few zones that can't be stolen very easily.

i only have linux boxes, at the moment all my hosted PSS zones are subgame running on wine, but no reason why i couldn't host ASSS, i dont know how to set it up, but you would get s!@#$%^&* access so im sure you would be able to set it up how u like. would be on a different server to the PSSF server, (that is a dev server only running on a vps, i would put u on a real server so don't judge the ping times and performance off that. connection would be 10mb, I don't have any SSC billing. There would be a conditions !@#$%^&*ociated with my hosting, basically you would have to add in your news.txt an acknowledgement + advert link to my website - nothings free after all if you find anyone better use them but this is what i can offer if you dont!

na, this game is player ran and admined. As long as people want to play it, it will never vanish. i said "as we know it" it'll still be around but it will be soo much changed cause you dont have a centralized player database anymore. there will be a whole bunch of many independent servers that communication across the zones will be near impossible. i think interbiller comunication is technically possible. it would need coding tho, and complicate things a bit. -
well HS has one offer of hosting already. unfortunately i don't have SSC...
-
just so people know, you dont need windows to run subgame, you can host subgame on linux. linux servers are pretty cheap to rent...
