  1. There are enclosed maps like the 3D trenchwars map with an outside area that you can travel. However, there is a limit to how far one can travel until they get pulled back into the arena. Space in this case is not unlimited. No, I will not hold onto the beta forever, it will be released very soon (stares at shiny CD with the Terrier on the front) Yes, you can not only fly at any angle that you wish, but there are newtonian physics involved here. You'll keep drifting for a good long while after you stop using the thrust, you can use gravity to your advantage when strafing an enemy. Controls Forward: Up key or right mouse button Back thrust: down key roll left: left key Roll right: take a wild guess Special feature(repel and warp) R Missiles: tab Fire: Space or Left mouse button View: V __Special__ Enter/Get out of vehicle: enter Cellphone: tab Solicit pros!@#$%^&*ute: Y/N Just kidding about those last three A couple other things of note, if you run into stuff: ships/asteroids/walls, it does damage to your ship, first draining the shields then damaging your hull. Fortuneately there are greens to fix this. The idea of a space station repair was ditched early on.
  2. yeah TC, it's preferred it was done by you. I'd like the community to work on the music because it's the community's game. A non-player couldn't really get a proper feel for the kind of music needed for this project.
  3. Currently, there's a need for more in-game tracks for Thirdspace. One artists has already done four tracks, but there is much more needed. The requirements are as follows: Must be in the free .ogg format 44100khz in stereo at least 45 seconds in length must have a continuous sound (can be looped to sound like a long track) have some sort of space theme, no country or rap, but can have an 's feel to it (would like very much if done right ) You will be given credit in the game credits under your SS handle but no financial compensation can be given as this is a free game, sry.
  4. Jab, if you mean that by seeing how many configurations the alpha works on and seeing what bugs there are then yeah you are doing my dirty work. But actual footwork and such by putting the game together.... nahhhh..... NEway, had some real major breakthroughs with the new engine, and in a couple of days either a bunch of new screens will be posted, or I will feel confident enough to post the 1.02 beta. Most of you will be happy to see the results either way, especialy in gameplay. There is a total of nine ships now, each re-rendered faithfuly as close as possible to the old VIE ships, but with as few polys as possible to run smoothly in the game. Available greens: Reps Thors Power draining EMP L1-L4 guns Shields Warp Antiwarp missiles ship repair Stealth All are working, have full collision with the scenery and ships. Frontend has also been improved quite a bit as well. Requests to make the FE look more like good old VIE subspace were taken seriously. And don't worry Jab, F2 F3 and F4 have all been replaced by V, just one key. So now you have !@#$%^&*pit view, ortho view and rear view so you can see for a distance who's trying to shoot at you from behind.
  5. oh wow benben are you so banned. dip!@#$%^&* has posted this crap in four other forums off topic. now reported. buhbuh benben
  6. To LC: Dx9 and a geforce card are video, the audio settings are different than that. Alt-tabbing won't bring an IRC style client up like in SS/cont the game currently isn't like that. I've never actually had the bsod problem while alt-tabbing while getting screen caps, going to PSP and saving them, going back to CNL/TS and getting another one. Then again, I did my screen caps while in a pre-compile test mode rather than with the compiled exe. The health by default is set to 24000 and each L1 shot does 100 hit points of damage To Hakaku: The breaks are caused by the ship running into the collision model of the arena. for some reason, when creating a collision model with milkshape, 3ds files never compile properly and they do strange things in the game. That's also why you can fly through walls.
  7. Ahh well, the new engine has less compatibility issues than the rad engine. Question to everyone, has anyone here tried a TCP/IP game yet?
  8. Ok LC. I figure most people want that level of customability with TS as the do with SS/Cont. Originaly, the CNL-TS client was going to be keyboard only, then I switched to All Sidewinder for a while with customizable buttons. With the Rad engine, there was room for only one or the other (like in SS) This new one can utilize all three, and I will take your setting reccomendations seriously. But I'm thinking instead of different keys for all those weapons, just one key to scroll through all the different ones in the arsenal like in GTA3/VC/SA Cyph: Eve online? Isn't that a D&D kind of game? I've heared of it but never really seen it in action. I'll look it up after I do a couple of things. Samapico: *pets you* The alpha game was optimized for the nvidia chipset and DirectX 9.c on up. Did you use the configuration panel that comes witht he game? To optimize for other 3D cards and settings? It's possible you might have to set to software rendering as opposed to hardware acceleration. This will also fix the staticy sounding soundtrack *stares back at LC*
  9. *stares at all the posts and worried that everyone is gonna dogpile me soon* The WB in my sig and avatar is a glamor shot, it's like putting a fourty year old woman in a shawl and using petroleum jelly on the lens to make her less wrinkled. When you're moving at 800mph in the void of space with level3 barrels pointed at you, you're given less time to consider these things and you just don't notice unless you get a video screen cap. half the features are messed up on the alpha client, but rest !@#$%^&*ured, they won't be on the next release *looks at the glacier heading down route40* suffice it to say, the old 3dRad engine may not be used much longer as is is too hard to work with at times. People won't have to convert their models into v3d or .x format, just leave them in milkshape3d format as they make them. Albeit I've had trouble with the textures on some of the ships, making them look like a blob of pixels when they're rendered. Learning the new engine was rather easy. and since it uses openGL, rendering seems to be faster than in 3drad. Uh. let's see, what else. names..... Well, we'll see. the name will either stick or change, who knows what the future holds. Noone thought the game subspace would stick around for a whole decade, let alone have such a cult following after VIE canned the game. Ehh... then there's the server side. Client has this ability built in in the 3drad alpha, unfortuneatley it seems to kind have pooped out for everyone else. The frontend will inevtably look like the older SS client, just for the sake of CONTINUity, so the first ones don't feel so left out. With the 3drad engine, the setup of a topdown game was not only simpler to set up, but easier on the rendering engine. With the new engine, 2D might be thrown out altogether. Did I miss anything? I must have, but it's hard to tell with the massive amount of posting.
  10. Dude, I already knew it was a movie. I saw it when it came out years ago. Before the movie, it was a book about video games in our society by Ed Soja in 1996 Before that, it was an idea in quantum physics with its own set of rules involving accelerated time or something... I'm more concerned about the shadow people here on Earth observing us rather than WB whining since Thirdspace isn't atruly trademarkable name. If that were the case, Soja would have a field day in court.
  11. 3rdspace (bootlegged) huh? Well thanks for the plug driveby. I wonder who he/she is in SS. NEway, the screens have been posted at the site: http://millenniumman.sprinterweb.net. They of course don't allow direct linking, so it's all cut and paste There's a few more on the site than there are here on the BB.
  12. someone posted a link to the binary on another reply a few messages up, but as for the video, sry...
  13. They're on my comp at home. I'll copy them to my flash drive and bring them in tomorrow. Some good enough to be wallpapers P.S. That's with the new engine I found, not with rad. Now, If I can only keep from getting noobified by the bots P.P.S. Hope that the binary release is proof to those out there that thought this would be another Duke Nukem Forever that it's nothing of the sort
  14. Runs away from the crowd chasing him with pens and contracts More serious note, Jab I tried working with V3Ds but its so hard to make them look like I make them look in .x Also, during the weekend I found me a much better engine that does "EXACTLY" everything that we need for this, proper alpha channels, reflections, model switching in game, an easy to mod engine when people want to make their own levels. I started to do some work on it saturday night. http://millenniumman.sprinterweb.net/3rdspace1.zip Sorry about the encoding quality on it, but if conveys what is being done very well. PS, brief guest appearance by a Shark and Weasel. Stupid fighter bots seem to like WB and Jav the most. To LC: The 3Drad engine version was going to allow run-once and walk away hosting without the need to have a player run the show.
  15. You were warned, nowhere near finished but most of you bugged me to no end. Managed to compile it by taking everything to the library near my house since for some inexplicable reason their HDs don't contain folders that remain read-only. Here's the URL: http://millenniumman.sprinterweb.net/ss3rdspace-alpha.zip[/url] Looks like they won't allow direct linking so just copy and paste the link ------------Edit by Samapico: Note that a beta has been posted (around page 6 of this topic), here is a link so you don't have to search the whole topic for it... http://www.hlrse.net/files/Unrelated/Thirdspace/TSinst.exe
  16. Well, the boy still had more issues than a newsstand. It's a shame we don't as of yet have the means to copy the real time thoughts of our greats, the ones who have gone can never be and the ones that still are won't be with us forever. With the mind of Hawking, Benjamin Carson and Einstein (the scientist, not the bagel guys) sitting in a supercomputer somewhere, so many current issues could be solved, just have to make sure they don't realize they're sitting in a machine. That might cause them to go nuts.
  17. Wait a minute, I thought Adolph's medical report while in the Austrian Army showed him with a 1 1/4" peins. I'm sorry, but if he belived so fervently in superiority, he should have slit his own throat years before becoming chancellor Joking aside, there are many productive people in our society that deserve mention other than the great Mr. Hawking. Carl Sagan (deceased), Michu Kaku, !@#$%^&* Cheyney (shot a lawyer) Margaret Thatcher, KISS, the biochemist Timothy Leary not the guru. Let's name others
  18. What I'm seeing most of is the what ifs of death. Death isn't the end all beat all punishment for some. For others, it is infact the promise of something better after they leave this coil of existance. If they stay, they can be harmed in so many ways. Ail, I was trying to make the point that some have this notion drilled into their head that from the womb what they have been led to believe as God will have ultimate control over their lives and afterlife. Zealots would have control over such a poor boob, lead him to believe that the world is flat and we are at the center of it all. The catholic church did this, and we had the crusades. We also had the black death because most were taught that cats were the devils pets, instead of killers of mice that brought the plauges. The inquisition, the salem witch trials, sink and they were good, float and they are witches. Fear of those greater that can give life and death or grant safety or harsh punishments is a driving factor in all men. Those claiming to represent God and his version of a belief system are those who are !@#$%^&*ed if what they bring is harm and those who follow them ought to have the flavor smacked out of their mouths. I like to think there is a difference between faith and religion, being that faith is what you hold to be true and religion is what others tell you is true but that you just wind up falling for the party line. Me personaly, I know God said no killing, no stealing, honor your parents because they brought you into this world. Even though there could be a problem with that last one seeing as how my mother is catholic and I'm not, I still know her as my mom, the one who raised me, who wouldn't harm me or let harm come to me. This is a matter of devotion. Some would belive that it's ok to harm a child (or anyone else they deem fit). Faith in what you know to be right is important only to you, you can share it, just don't try to drill it into people. That's how wars start.
  19. Half are religous zealouts who believe that what they are doing is dictated by God, the rest are weak-minded simpletons who are easily coaxed or cohearsed with a bit of candy in ones hand from a fat guy in a beard in a sedan promising them a lot of cool stuff will happen if you just go along with them Hallowed be the Ori, *starts chanting* sarcantum dori los cantum Ori, dos velios dominos... *huge forcefield surrounds the StarGate as a massive amount of troops come spilling through the gate, ready to take over the milky way galaxy* To hear the real message, play this record backwards
  20. Run Grav.... Run whilst ye can! You may be Jewish, but even your funds aren't unlimited. A girl like that can bleed you dry in zero flat if you give her half a chance. hehehe See, when I discriminate, I discriminate UP
  21. Well said, its a shame though that they WILL be recognized as a woman or a black president, I say heck, lets vote for a black asian woman! If enough in the current administration fall by the wayside, Condi Rice would be it. W and !@#$%^&* would have to be incapacitated or worse(or better) in order for her to become that. Then we can get all the first woman/black/asian president crap out of the way all at once. If I remember my sucsession list, she might be fourth in line. Pres, VP, Speaker of the house, Secratary of State. If they all went AWOL, we would be stuck with the head of the Department of Agriculture running things. But then again, we've had many farmers become president.
  22. I worked for Proctor & Gamble for four years before they decided to outsource to a temp agency that had brought in a group of illegals. Yes, they were caught dead to rights because of the multiple SSN's and as I'm now sure you're aware the thing with underarmor here in Baltimore. In the process, I and fifty others lost our jobs at the P&G warehouse, and I got to watch the whole transitionary phasing out as many of them made a mess of things, some stealing, some sleeping on the job. !@#$%^&*, it was a pre-requisite that they show up to get paid, why do all the heavy lifting when the gringos could keep "demonstrating" how to do the job. Eventually the higher ups realized they made a mistake and tried to hire most of us back, but by then I was in a better job so I gave my old bosses the finger when they "offered" my old job back. And no, the incident with the border agents has happened four times in the past year, and had quickly been buried behind most of the other news, btw Also, I'm sure you're aware of the NG troops who were given orders not to shoot back at an illegal border crossing when the ASSS were crossing that happened only a couple months back. This couldn't have escaped your attention as it made national news. Neither of these situations are imaginary nor anecdotal, they have and still are happening to this day. Bush doesn't have lack of experience, he's been screwing people for decades. He had an oil business that his father helped him build, daddy let him go about his own way and it tanked. He was governor of Texas for a while before becoming president. The only thing that got him as far as he did was name recognition. Lack of intelligence and decency is more like it.
  23. probably... lol Funny, I thought illegal immigration had pretty much been put on the back burner. Lets face it, if we arrest our own border cops for trying to shoot the guys running them over with their truck, when we give sanctuary to our ethnicly cleansed (not really cleansed) to the south, drivers licenses, and most of our jobs are taken in lieu of those who do a !@#$%^&*ty job but work for less, then there really is no good policy left. As for me, I would rather vote for a black guy rather than allow another Clinton in the whitehouse again in my lifetime. After all, a vote for hillary is really another vote for bill, and you know he'll try to kenive and fanegle his way back into the oval office, making sure hillary imposes his policies. That's another thing, it upsets me that black people don't think he's black. I don't know about you, but if I were Obama I would wake up in the morning, looking into a mirror and see a black guy staring back at me. Sure, he isn't descended from slaves, his family was lucky. He's also of mixed heratige, so what? Born and raised in middle America to parents who have obviously raised him with proper values. We also seem to be forgetting though that there are other alternatives besides dumocrap and reputrification. I for one have given up on the party system. To me, it is the individual character that counts. I would rather have a president who would lay out the whole truth rather than sugar coat everything and say that things can get better if we follow hi/her false hope of a plan, only to be let down even further. I'm not 35 yet, but come 2016 (if we make it that far) expect to see me on the presidential ballot. My policies and beliefs are of public record, and I will stick to them. I know what needs to be done to fix this country because I am one of you, not old money from the northeast, not a racebaiter, a regular guy with real world experience, not a hulk of lard staring down at his subjects from an ivory tower. I am declaring myself as a nominee for no party whatsoever, but as a citizen to be your President of these United States of America! *hymn of the republic plays in the background* ~paid for the people who really want a change in American Government~
  24. Nah, I tried, I really did. It's hit and miss with the 5.3 engine. Somethines if you hit something you automaticaly blow up, if you miss it still happens Actualy the ship, weapon and asteroid collisions were never a problem. The real issue with collisions has always been with environmental objects such as walls, wormholes and the space floor (yes, for 2D gaming) V6 used a different collision system, so that's another plus. but as of yet, I still haven't seen any network code for the V6 engine, so that's hope and wait. In the meantime, I'll just keep trying with 5.3 to get collisions working and hopefuly a compiled version up and running.
  25. Oooh... I loved that game. Ever play prime-not prime? To tell you the truth, I didn't care if others felt bad about being underachievers. As far as I was and still am concerned, it's a serious motivational tool to get them to do better. Tell the brat "hey, you want to do better than him? Prove you're better than him!" That's what compe!@#$%^&*ion does, brings the best out in people. Look at the cold war. We had mutualy !@#$%^&*ured destruction but we also had international compe!@#$%^&*ion to get to the moon and better technological races. Then in the 90's that focus shifted on what company could come up with the next big thing to oust the other guys. If you feel !@#$%^&*ty then do something to correct it, just don't go about it the wrong way. Sooner or later someone or something will come along and remove you from the gene pool
