I believe more people would contribute to Discretion if a secondary dumbed-down "newb" Subgame-clone (accurate and precise) of AS3 were compiled, but with extra settings features included in the ESC+C menu that relate to Discretion/AS3. It would be the same thing as if PriitK had released a major update to Continuum with loads of new features everywhere. I believe that making a dumbed-down edition of AS3 that completely matches to the level of Subgame users despite it's "ultimate lack of flexibility in its original form," (which is psychologically always necessary if you want to reach "lower"/"common" people/player who barely knows enough about computers/software/editors/tools/gaming/etc just to get around with Subgame and no more; would be kind of the same difficulty many computer users may feel when installing Continuum and trying to create a profile for the first time). If you want to move forward and you want to bring newbies/beginners/common players over, you have to talk at their level too -- not just at the advanced level of people who know how to program in languages like C#, C++, Python, etcetera. Subgame is one of the few things that have specially kept the game alive because of it's ease and broad basic coverage of game features. AS3 is more like a complete product through reverse engineering, NOT made by VIE; it's "extra". If every existing copy of Subgame were deleted in 2001 and replaced with the best copy of AS3 today, the population would have taken a greater dip downhill because there wasn't any decent developmental support for newbie players who wanted to just have the basic ability to make and play a map with customized settings of their own (and to some, just basic LVZ to replace shipsets, sounds, etcetera). But with AS3, similarly to Linux, you have to go through a whole series of steps (which happen to be beyond most people's heads [common/newb/beginner people's]), rather than a few simpler, stress-acceptable steps on Windows. I suppose AS3 can do more things with LVZ than what Subgame2 allows as well, is this a correct assumption? It's all extra -- and that's not going to cover the game for easy/newb/beginner/common player people like Subgame does. EDIT :: And I am not attacking AS3 as bad. AS3, like Linux, is an excellent piece of software. But it is designed for people who have the proper experience (programming, compiling software, etcetera) to operate such flexibility. AS3 is the wrong tool in the hands of a newbie, whereas Subgame would be a better, "righter", more appropriate tool.

Will check into the 406 error. Will consider adding this as the first page in Commands.hlp. -
Commands.hlp, Continuum040Setup.exe, Server Kit v6
L.C. replied to L.C.'s topic in General Discussion
Would have helped if you told me on which file rather than having to make me click on every link to find out. It happens to be Commands.log. Don't worry about that one -- it's including in the ZIP as well. That's what Ticker.hlp is for...? O_o Original Commands.hlp never had anything about this ("original" as in the Subspace client 1.34 help file or the original Continuum v0.39/40 installer). Commands.hlp is to help the player with command related keyboards, while ticker is a "helper" or "hinter" during gameplay. Will consider this suggestion though. -
Commands.hlp (v9.06.061 - June 6, 2009) Continuum040Setup.exe (Repackage v7) ServerKit-Full.exe (v5) I am totally open to suggestions, constructive criticism, etcetera! <_< Please at least check out the latest Commands.hlp file.

The last I checked, these forums were not using reCAPTCHA (which was before I made this thread). Time to check again. EDIT :: What do ya' know - reCAPTCHA is used in the registration process.
-
It's x86 and x64. These refer to architectures, not bits. But rootbear75 has already answered the question. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/64-bit#History
-
I think it would be a good idea if reCAPTCHA was used for the forum registration form.

My password would take virtually forever to crack. >.< Been a while since I last logged in, so I'm probably in the clear.

Firefox v3.0.5. I sent you a private message. EDIT :: Bleh, v3.0.10 is the latest. Downloading that now. EDIT2 :: Nope, still the same.

In my FireFox http://www.subspaceonline.com/ looks like: http://www.hlrse.net/Qwerty/sso_000.png In Internet Explorer 8 http://www.subspaceonline.com/ looks like: http://www.hlrse.net/Qwerty/sso_001_ie.png It appears to me the design is not cross-browser compatible. EDIT :: Ew it uses tables and some places full-sized images. Can I convert the design to XHTML/CSS? EDIT2 :: Oops, hit submit button too soon. Uploading screenshots. EDIT3 :: Done, sorry about that.

That's really cool! Well, I never meant to hurt anyone or steal anything (I do not take any credit). I too really liked the comics of Zoner (and have a squad in SSC/Isometry "Zoners SVS"), and I have always found this one to be awesome -- I thought it would be cool if I bring back some memories to some people by using one of Zoners things while bringing some attention to Jackpot SVS (since it too carries on similar/the same nostalgic traits). Do you want me to find/create/make up/change a/to another idea and not use this one from Zoner?
-
Oh come on, Zoner doesn't exist any more. O_o Why keep their material in the dark? They should be happy that they are remembered and their material is being used for a good purpose and cause (the same one?). EDIT :: Here is the original and resized/Jackpot SVS'ized versions: * * EDIT2 :: And I do not take credit for the banner. Technically it's still their banner even if I resized it and added some matching text.
-
For some reason I cannot get the IMG tags to work with the banner, so here's the link and attached copy: * http://www.hlrse.net/Qwerty/jackpotsvs_ad_224x166.gif * http://www.hlrse.net/Qwerty/jackpotsvs_ad_224x166.gif * http://www.hlrse.net/Qwerty/jackpotsvs_ad_224x166.gif * jsvs_ad_224x166.rar

I also testify that seeing newbies and beginners play motivates me. They're clean in every way (they aren't influenced by the community's social flaws, politics, etc), and they've only started their journey in their addiction to Subspace. Hmm, I wonder if it would be possible to make a super light-weight Flash/MS Airlight version of Subspace where you have the HUD, radar, player box, banners, ability to play -- only thing you wouldn't be able to do is change your banner, upload maps (*putfile and ?setlevel and stuff), and other things. Copies could be distributed and an individual could set which zone the applet would connect to, and possibly even have the ability to preload their own zone files into the applet for faster loading. EDIT :: One reason why I'm still here, one reason why I provide zone hosting, one reason why I still host, run and operate BlueT Jackpot SVS, and host BlueT Dragonball Z, one reason why I am willing to put up money for this game, ...
-
And ladies and gentlement, THIS is what COULD happen to YOU if you are affected by the SubSpace Addiction Syndrome.
-
I thought 2048x1536 or something was the maximum? EDIT :: Continuum needs a resolution limit upgrade. Pretty soon we'll have players that see a quarter of the entire freaking map (now that would be a scary thing and would also be very interest - like what would happen if you went to T20 with such a huge resolution? ).

The purpose of this thread is to further research "the old days," Jackpot Zone, nostalgic and VIE times, get comments, constructive criticism, and critiques. If you do give BlueT Jackpot SVS a try, do not mind the bots (as they are temporary and by partial request of some Chaos SVS players). The bots are Bjorn's AI MERVBot v1.01 (v1.02 does not work) with customized combat configurations. Gravitron came into BlueT Jackpot SVS this morning and gave the zone a whirl. Here are his comments summarized (and my comments or replies to them): Map is from v0.95 Ok. [*]GFX is dated backwards to v0.49 Ok. [*]Settings are wrong (1.3 SVS and not 0.9 SVS) They are the original Jackpot Zone settings I believe. Got it straight off of the VIE CD for a specific arena "jackpot." [*]Old fonts = cool factor. Ok. [*]Ghosting doesn't exist I am curious. What is this "ghosting"? [*]Bullets used to be affected by wormhole gravity Yeah that's a shame. Unfortunately it cannot be done due to the lack of feature-support in Continuum (or the Subspace client for that matter). According to the research I have done (involving asking old SVS players and veterans), might be wrong, but back then you could even get suspended inside the middle of the wormhole; wormhole would not warp you, but would hold you in its center. You could either escape it by (1) being shot at from outside and killed, (2) warping, (3) attaching to a teammate, (4) changing ship, or (5) portal. [*]ZoneServ --> IRC> Was this the name of the traditional Jackpot Zone bot? What is "IRC>"? Overall I think Gravitron thinks the zone is well built and compiled. On another note, a great idea that I really like has struck me this morning. I am planning on hosting a contest that includes $200 to $400 in cash prizes/awards. Anyone (with or without skill, talent or experience) will be able to participate and it will involve creating something in/for Subspace/Jackpot SVS. First I have to fully plan and layout the details, rules, webpage, etc, and then recruit some volunteers, judges, and finally advertise the contest. This is all the detail I'm giving about this for now.

lololol the server/forums don't want change.

1. On 1024x768 the forum looks crowded/crammed. There's too much open graphical space for so little content. 2. When you send a private message to someone, you get a javascript popup that says "undefined" or something (but it still sends the private message).
