Dr. Brain, I am sorry to say this, but I really don't care enough to find a solution (I regretfully take back the contents of my previous reply). In my scenario, I do not have the ability to install the additional software required to run Snrrrub's client, and Subchat is too much of an unfinished product (bugs, glitches, connection/chat buffer unreliability, etc). I do not seek to irritate, anger, or stress anyone out. I have to say, I will not contribute any further. The main purpose of my OP was simply to share an idea. In the end, the idea is tossed because it is impractical and a security hazard. End of topic (for me at least); expect no further replies from me. Sorry. :X Just don't worry or stress about anything. Just little ol' retard me posting.

At my workplace, we use WatchGuard Firebox with all ports blocked as a default. Only the necessary ports like 80, 21, 110, 25, etc are opened. As a result, every zone in Continuum is "blocked"/offline and I cannot get directory server zone listings. To me, the benefit of an IRC Bouncer was that I could stay connected 24/7, the fact that a dedicated server with a better and more [uptime] reliable internet connection was laboring instead of my computer and internet, and so that I never miss out on anything. For me, it would be easier to directly connect to my own dedicated server than to connect to any other server. My dedicated server would not lose connection (like mine), it would not lose connection very easily (like mine), and it would not be dependent upon how the weather and atmosphere is doing (like mine). Plus, let me mention that it wouldn't just benefit me at the workplace, but at home and at college. I want to make sure that my messages get through. Since I am not always in the same location, the strength and reliability of connectivity in the "default ways" of chatting, I find, are overall poor compared to being directly connected to a dedicated server of my own. VPN is out of the question in my situation. How would you go about doing SOCKS? Assume that SSH [and VPN] ports are always blocked. But all in all, I don't really think anything I say matters. After all, why put forth the effort to satisfy only one user (me)? EDIT :: And technically speaking, I would still have to get a port open to connect to the PCS/SSB, but it would be a lot safer opening a port to that since it specializes in only and strictly in Subspace's protocol (which is pretty secure due to its simplicity and lowness, if you ask me). It might be possible to make a sneaky workaround where port 80 or something is used though. Anyway, I only wanted to share this idea with the community for the sake of "FYI". Never hurts to share an idea; never know when an idea might be the key to something for someone or whatever.

Thank you Polix! Does anyone know where and how I may be able to find and get in touch with Bargeld? Thank you! EDIT :: Found his SSF account.

Hello! I would like to know what happened to SSCX Alpha West SVS? Did it move into another zone as a subarena?

http://www.hlrse.net/Qwerty/pcs-ssb.png Forgot to write that there are two modes of functionality: * PCS/SSB would connect and disconnect to zone as you would be connected to PCS/SSB; there would be a "timeout" or latency decision so that if you lost connection for a second or two the PCS/SSB would remain connected. I could set the "timeout" to 5 minutes for example, and if I am not connected to the PCS/SSB for that much time, the PCS/SSB will log off the zone/server it is connected to. (The PCS/SSB will update my chat client with the information I missed when I finally reconnect to the PCS/SSB.) * PCS/SSB would function like an IRC Bouncer in that it always remains connected to the zone/server you have it configured for or connected to. When you exit your chat client and disconnect from your PCS/SSB, PCS/SSB will remain connected in your username on the server. When you reconnect, you will not be updated with all the information you miss, but you have the option to send the PCS/SSB a command to show you the last x number of lines before you connected, or you can look at the logs the PCS/SSB keeps (if you have logging enabled) to see everything you missed. You could also set a "timeout" on this mode, so that if you reconnect before this "timeout" expires, the PCS/SSB will inform you of everything you missed upon reconnect (setting this number too high would result in SPAM, or you could set it to a maximum number of lines -- either way, it's the user's choice and decision).

All directory servers on subdir.net/org, hlrse.net, and bluetoast.org are non-existant.

Updated links. Didn't renew subdir.net because it was useless. -
So if I want to play in a zone that has the port 5000, do I forward that port TCP, UDP, or both? EDIT :: Nevermind. I'm pretty sure it is just TCP only. Thanks! EDIT2 :: UDP.

I like the old VIE styled interface better. The HUD should be like that too in my opinion, and just as easily customizable like in Continuum too, if possible. But those are my thoughts. I need to test this some more at home on my desktop machine rather than on my lappy. Ships look cool. I kind of like the Subspace v1.34 interface better too, in the sense that it's just a window in Windows rather than a full blown client until you actually choose and connect to a zone to play in (you know that square fade in effect?). Thirdspace looks cool.

Or even, what ports must I forward in order to play Continuum?

Free 20 inch LCD Monitor (SUBSPACE CONTEST)

I like jabjabjab's video, except I think he could have done much better in moving with the music. You could almost just remove the music from his video or replace that music with something else without modifying anything else and his video would be just the same. This is what I think is the problem. At 0:22, he should have had a split second's clip from Continuum (without game SFX). The recording should appear to be rumbling/jittering, whether or not it was caused by a bomb or mine (if neither, then the video should be jittered and cropped. Then "There is only one place to go" without the fade in effect; it should slowly start getting bigger/zooming into the text instead, or just have no effect. I would get rid of 0:27 completely and replace it with jittered (but fading out) recordings of one dogfight to the next. And with the official Subspace (or "Continuum" using same style as official/original title art for Subspace) floating in the middle of the screen for several seconds and through several dogfight clips. The dogfight clips should only be previewed anywhere from 0.75 to 1.25 seconds each; you don't want to make it too long so that the viewer begins to sink in before being surprised with the next dogfight scene -- you want intensity to enrage and begin to grow and seek a climax point within the view. The Subspace/Continuum title over the recordings could either fade out or effectlessly make an immediate change to SSCU Trench Wars. The spinning Subspace logo at the end is very cool however. If only it rotated non-stop and didn't pull to a stop after 180-360 degrees of rotation. And the 2:07 part is a very cool picture/scene as well. It's perfect. These are just some of my thoughts/opinions/ideas. Might help jabjabjab and other contestants with their videos. -
At my workplace all the zones appear red and I cannot download a directory server listing. As a result, it is to my conclusion that they probably have the ports necessary for Continuum to function correctly (with the exception of 4990-1) are blocked. Is there a way to go around this or bypass the block?

How is this for a support ticket starter?

I think Juan is the individual who made the original VIE 3D SubSpace models.

According to Mobygames, he was involved in Mercenaries 2: World in Flames. Maybe sending an e-mail to the right person in the management department of that game might lead to something?

These are all of the Jackpot SVS zone files with the compiler. With this you can run your own copy of Jackpot SVS, whether it be for a LAN party or online renegade runaway server. I am the one who collected all the files and graphics (plus necessary photoshopping to make the graphic files what they are today, such as ships.bm2), and compiled it together into this zone. Jackpot SVS contains every known VIE/official map (or at least the ones I could find) with settings. Sniper maps are also included (if I remember correctly, I have not finished retiling one or two of the sniper maps, as well as creating Sniper-only tileset versions of the maps), as well as all the maps and settings from the original Subspace CD. I erased/censored any critical information (such as staff passwords, billing information, directory server passwords, logs and database files), so if you want to get this running you will have to add a few things to server.ini in the Configurations folder. You will need to go to the Configurations and Bots folder and configure them their passwords, usernames, billing and IP information. If you want to compile the zone for internet-play, run Compile Zone.bat. If you want to compile the zone for LAN-play, run Compile Zone (LAN).bat. Then simply run Subgame2.exe from the Compiled Zone folder -- simple as that! Compiled Cache is good if you want to publish downloadable zone content online to save time from in-game downloading. Compiled Zone is your usual Subgame2 directory with all the server and zone files. It wasn't easy or quick to make this zone what it is today. I spent a lot of time putting this together and trying to revive Jackpot Zone. I put in a lot of effort, research and time. But nonetheless, none of the materials of this zone are mine. I take no credit. And thus for all these reasons, I believe that (as caretaker) this zone in whole is property of the community and public domain. Take care.

This archive contains the styles/template/theme that was used for the zone's vBulletin forum before I moved the forum here. It is not complete, but a lot of the work is done.jsvs_forums.rar

Technically finished the design part, but back then when I had made this, I did not have enough XHTML/CSS experience to overcome some major issues of the design. I could do it now with the experience I have, but this design is too old and lacks professionality (I like the menu bar though). Feel free to use any part of this. http://www.hlrse.net/Qwerty/jsvs_old_template.png

I used these on Jackpot SVS' old website template that I never finished due to XHTML/CSS complications (lack of required experience and knowledge) and on an old "SS Jackpot SVS" advertisement banner.ssfont_jsvs.rar

webmaster@allinjuan.com (as noted on the front page of the website) does not work, and the domain registration information for allinjuan.com is protected. I found out that the images on his site were intact, just only that the webpages except the main index file were missing (thus redirecting back to the main index file). So to find the filenames of the images, I used Wayback Machine and then plugged them into the original URL. It would probably be easier to find him through Google than a domain whois. He might have a resume or something floating around the net. EDIT :: I also have a font that is extremely close in resemblance (every letter and character) to that font, which I also used on a website design template for Jackpot SVS. I'll dig up the font from my archive later. EDIT2 :: I found my fonts in my archive of 45,000+ fonts, with the exception of the Dungeon series (I have a feeling that they have filenames that do not include the syllables of "dungeon"). However, with a stroke of luck, I found a free copy of the Dungeon font on the intarweb. You can download http://www.hlrse.net/Qwerty/ssfont_jsvs.rar, which are the fonts I used on Jackpot SVS' old website template at http://www.hlrse.net/Qwerty/jsvs_old_template.rar. Feel free to use (public domain, eh?). For those without Photoshop, this is Jackpot SVS' old website template that I never finished: http://www.hlrse.net/Qwerty/jsvs_old_template.png

9th Ship (or 10th, since Nightwasp came first in the history of Subspace) http://allinjuan.com/img/ss2_shipb.jpg Cockpit location resembles spider and lancaster, but with wings in reverse and the thruster caps on the wings, and the wings split into an x-wing style. I might have lost some images, but I've been keeping images of 3D/new Subspace/2 related stuff, and I got around to uploading my archive to http://www.hlrse.net/Qwerty/subspace.

What about that one 9th ship that was never actually released? I know that there's at least one high quality shot of it in existence.

I definitely recommend registering your numbers at http://donotcall.gov/ if you live in the United States. Compared to last year, we haven't really gotten any calls this year, whereas last year we were bombarded with telemarketing calls (including the machine ones).
