  1. Source of problem: Motherboard = Very Likely Northbridge chipset = Likely Southbridge chipset = Likely SATA/IDE controllers = Likely It isn't your HDD that has the problem if it works perfectly fine via external setup.
  2. This is a very cool program! Now I can show people what it feels like to play on satellite (1500ms to 3000ms latency).
  3. Because he made it very clear to me that he will no longer continue support Subspace and/or his materials. He said this to me several months ago before he went inactive/off the radar again. And yes, I have e-mailed him, but I never receive responses or support either -- also as a result of the paragraph above. I know he is reading them though because he started Isometry back up after I informed him that Isometry was down for quite a while.
  4. I had a strong suspicion it did, but it isn't the latest version (v4.00) either. I realize now that you are probably saying this in that you used one more CD than you wanted to. I apologize. Memtest86+ passing you is good. Your RAM is okay! None of the HDD tools working -- meh! Who manufactured your HDD? Seagate? Maxtor? Fuji? If you can find this out, perhaps you might be able to go to that company's website and find diagnostics tools that would work on your HDD. You could also try booting up onto an Ubuntu Live CD, mount your HDD and try to explore it and open text files, pictures and videos and see what happens. If your HDD fails in trying to do that, your HDD is most likely at fault. If you still have warranty on the drive, see how much data you can backup from your HDD before sending it in. They won't give you back your data.
  5. I can replicate the problem on my laptop; so it occurs on my laptop (Windows XP) and our Windows 2003 server. I was not the one who ordered, setup, or configured the Windows 2003 server (so the same problem occurring with the server and my laptop might be a coincidence somehow). I think at some point a year ago we tried it on the webserver but it didn't work because of the strict firewall/system setup (even forwarding the ports did not work). The server was specially configured to be a secure webserver, so that makes some sense. I think the Linux version ran fine, but was pointless since no connection could be made. And also, I don't know of any way on Linux to automatically restart the program if it crashes or ends. Anyway, our webserver is not to be used for anything but webhosting services.
  6. Do you or anyone happen to know the expiration time on that directory sever? I don't think this is wise. How does your directory server behave when a NamePassword for a zone is suddenly changed without modifying its zone name? Suggestion: redirect to getcontinuum.com
  7. I didn't really read anything here, but this popped out to me since it is a phrase I have heard of before. If this matters: 1) You underestimate the intelligence of the Internet and the people who try to prevent vandalism. 2) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accuracy_of_Wikipedia EDIT :: Oh wait, that's wikileaks. The above was a defense for Wikipedia. I thought you were talking about Wikipedia. X_x EDIT2 :: In case if anyone is wondering, I am not necessarily implying anything about wikileaks. If it would make you comfortable, consider this post as "political masturbation" or something. *resumes observation on psychological phenomenons in this thread* EDIT3 :: PS, the discussion in this thread is amazing. This thread IS amazing. (The discussion is hardcore, definitely not for most people. Keep at it.) EDIT4 :: Hitler said that if you tell a lie loud enough and long enough, the people will believe it. Then there's also the phrase that history repeats itself, and history is a set of made-up lies, and "circus and bread" (refer to the Roman and Greek empires), ... EDIT5 :: And you haven't been reading left-wing blogs again? My my, what does this all come down to? EDIT6 :: I have come to realize that this is actually a very good place to get some experience in being confronted by and encountering multiple/different points of views from one's own.
  8. I would recommend downloading and burning Ultimate Boot CD (http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/) and running a scan on your harddrive to check for faults and failures. You may additionally want download, burn and run Memtest86+ (http://www.memtest.org/) to check for faulty RAM (unlikely, but it really doesn't hurt to run this for a few hours). If your RAM is faulty, replace them. If your HDD is faulty or has problems, you may be able to backup some of the content on it but you will definitely need to get a new harddrive. Please report back with test results.
  9. ds1.hlrse.net is currently running Snrrrub's directory server perfectly stable on smooth seas. However, it has UpstreamServers disabled via ZoneRefreshSeconds, so right now it is practically an independent standalone directory server. Why? See https://forums.minegoboom.com/viewtopic.php?p=80947#80947. There is a bug involving ZoneRefreshSeconds and UpstreamServers. If someone could fix this, that would be supreme! What are the benefits for you? Well, besides fixing a bug, additionally you could come up with a way so that the statistical files (current.xml, distribution.xml, stats.txt -- any of these files that do not contain confidential NamePassword information) are publicly available. That way the statistics become public and can be freely harnessed by Flash/PHP/webdevelopers to generate their own visual statistical charts based off of a public xml/txt file. I prefer Snrrrub's directory server over all others because it uses the latest in Snrrrub's knowledge over Subspace, and Snrrrub's credibility as a Google programmer, long history of reverse engineering practice, etcetera, I think his directory server is overall the best in every way. Stability, proper coding structure and design, -- the way things should be done in the first place (not to offend anyone though). Anyway, if nobody steps up to the plate to volunteer, I am going to get it fixed by my own resources. EDIT :: I want BlueT/oast to have a rock solid, permanent and dedicated kickbutt directory server.
  10. 1) SSCX Alpha West SVS with a population of 100 2) SSCA A Small Warzone 3) When do zone listings expire if someone decides to remove ssdir.playsubspace.com from IP=? 4) http://ssdir.playsubspace.com --> http://playsubspace.com --> 403 Error <-- http://www.playsubspace.com
  11. https://forums.minegoboom.com/viewtopic.php?t=8578 EDIT :: Currently working to restore the "working" scrty and scrty1 files as a temporary solution (backing up the current ones, then restoring). I will leave BlueT Section 31 Test Zone as is -- so you can experiment on this zone. If you need the zone.dat information, see below: scrty and scrty1 files from BlueT Section 31 Test Zone scrty.zip Experiment setup: - Default installation of Server Kit (http://www.hlrse.net/subspace/ServerKit.exe) - Placed executable of every Continuum version in same folder with subgame2.exe (but renamed the executables to their version -- so v0.37 translates to 37.exe) - Ran subbill.exe - Ran subgame2.exe and tested the included scrty and scrty1 files - Shutdown subgame2.exe with SHIFT+F12 - Appended "_default" to scrty and scrty1 filenames - Opened command prompt to directory containing subgame2.exe and the Continuum executables - Starting from v0.36, working my way up to v0.40, I executed ".exe Z" - For each generation of scrty and scrty1, I tested them by joining with a SysOp name and a random username, and then shutdown subgame2.exe with SHIFT+F12 and appended "_" to the scrty and scrty1 files before generating the next pair of files Offline Test Results (using Subgame2 v1.34.14): - works on - v??? (default, comes with Server Kit) works on v0.40 - v??? (unknown, autogenerated when neither file existed) works on v0.40 (deleted files and let Subgame2 generate its own) - SSv1.34 (scrty generated only, scrty1 autogenerated upon launch) works on v0.40 - v0.36 works on v0.40 - v0.37 works on v0.40 - v0.38 works on v0.40 - v0.38pr1 works on v0.40 - v0.38pr2 works on v0.40 - v0.38pr3 works on v0.40 - v0.38pr5 works on v0.40 - v0.39pr1 works on v0.40 - v0.40 works on v0.40 Notes: - subspace.exe included with subgame2.exe only generates scrty (does not generate scrty1) - Both scrty and scrty1 are generated if they do not exist - Using generated files from v0.40 will cause the error to non-sysops; does this mean that as long as you are sysop you can join zones with an incompatible client? Experiment Part 2 setup: - This time testing it on BlueT Section 31 Test Zone - Creating a folder for each pair scrty and scrty1, placing them in their folder, and removing the appended "_" from their filenames and using that "" part as the folder name - Shutting down the zone - Uploading a pair of scrty files - Starting the down - Testing the zone with a random username (non-SysOp only this time) - Recording results and repeating the process until all versions have been tested Online Test Results (BlueT Section 31 Test Zone): (Testing in progress) - v0.40 works with v0.40 - Dragged 40.exe (v0.40) into a new and empty folder and generated new files - Uploaded and tested those files and... - v0.40 does not work with v0.40 (gives "new client" message) - Tested the same pair offline and it works instead of failing (aka giving "new client" message) I don't understand... Experiment 1 and 2 -- Contains Continuum executables from v0.36 to v0.40, and their generations. The '40' folder contains the "dependency-less regeneration" from Experiment 2.

  23. Obama didn't do anything to get the prize. Plus there were 203 other people in the line-up for this, and surely there is at least one person within that 203 that truly deserved the prize.
