  1. i still predict this will get closed. good luck getting your answers though. but mike doesn't take care of most mod hirings himself, he has staff coordinators to do that for him. if you got an explanation from pern, chances are youll just hear the same reasons from mike from what she tells him about it.
  2. why are you still going. reading that 5 page soap opera was bad enough. WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY do you continue???? WHY WHY WHY + since mike closed the last one, people will be faster to close this thread than the previous one. oh yeah: play other zones if you get that pissed off in 17th, whether due to staff settings or maps. on teh whole it's made reading this forum much more amusing

  4. it wouldnt a surprise if they told you before what it was going to be, would it?

    Out, too

sure it does. it's just the only thing that i know of that mat had direct input to the zone somehow. i never really got how dev team works, i still don't, i never will, and i don't want to know now.

k don't mean to come off too harsh here, i don't have anythign personally against mat or anything. but the rrl scores on 17thp.com are still missing the 9th game's scores. matrix was the coord of that league. i dont know if he was any good at developing things. the only thing i've seen (k, read) developed when in 17th is a headache or migraine :/ but w/e. sometimes people just move on dkr... speaking of which, i should stop using this forum so much. har!

    i wish you good sailing.
  9. enlighten the masses then as to why it failed. talking about this bot is great, but IT is not in your arena (which i have been in now). until it's done, saying "the bot will handle it" is wishful thinking.
  10. noone flags in north, and the north base rarely has more than 4 people in it (2 from each team). i know that you've tried to make the objective to hold territory and take your enemies, but really there's no "victory" or beginning/end to it. you log on, you fight some battles without any end in sight, and you leave without a sense of having won a game. the ball game does that now. put flags in the ball bases and remove north and you're all set. then the flags become steps on the way to scoring with the ball.
  11. i dont know if i articulated this thought before, or if i did if did so well. so here goes. i do not think that removing the ball-play from the public map is a good idea. there needs to be an objective. "hold all the flags" you say. "what for?" i say. for more points? you'd be surprised the number of times i've had to explain that (in this zone) the flags increase points/kill as well as the timed bonuses. there's no immediate goal for people to focus on. no "help score" or "help defend enemy incoming at our goal" messages to focus the team. i think it'd just turn into "i need help getting this flag at %area (%coord) attach now!" kind of deal. and then there's no FOCUS. you have a bunch of 1v1 or 2v2 battles inside the bases (Which i realized there was two of before ), or even worse just mindless killing in the middle. i strongly think the ball should stay in 17th, as it focuses the public play easily and without direct controls. and it still provides an objective for a league-based map too.
  12. doesn't the server TW is using now cost money? or have i been in my happy place again where everything is different
  13. in rumble, people are rarely at full energy when you confront them. this changes the dynamic, as if you're with a decent partner he can score some hits, and make kills alot easier. in duels, you have to get every shot to hit and count, including the killing blow. duel is a truer test of individual skill. take your partner to 2v2 and play some other teams and see if you still do well. sometimes a good team is better tahn the sum of its parts. in short, owning at one gameplay style doesn't ensure ownage in another.
  14. play nice
  15. oh yeah: i think you should rethink not having a balling element in the arena. flags don't have the same immediate / visible goal as scoring with the ball does. and the bot for this seems like alot of work... i know explody is good at making bots but this seems like a bit much.
  16. maka, you have obviously put alot of thought into this, so i will try not to send the hate vibes too strongly this post... that said, i haven't actually played in the arena, so im working from your descriptions for the ships. well, those ships seem based mostly on the old settings. which is fine. but you took alot of typing to say you'd like the old sets the weasel doesn't seem to have any holes, but maybe clear up if the afterburner is free/negative/offsettings (0 nrg change when used). as for the map (such that is discernible on the diagram), it seems a bit large for 22 players, especially with three entrances. i think adding some rooms, not huge ones, would also make the secondary entrances more interesting from a team perspective, as once a team loses the entrance to one they are basically screwed out of holding the whole base, as that back circular room seems key to the whole affair. those little thing you have sticking out of the wall along the top passage don't count. it would also make the secondary passages viable for more ships than the spider/shark. im not talking huge, whole screensized rooms, just places where teams can make a stand, and use any ships that are on the team. also, ?buying bounce looks like it'd be even more painful in that base. which brings me to the problem of forcing ships on people. number one, how will you determine who gets the last say in who gets what ships? number two, forcing people into certain ships will not necessarily force them into playing the role that ship is designed for. you could have a newbie spider out dogfighting. number three... ok well there's no number three. but forcing people into certain ships doesn't seem right to me. in DSB you get to pick from 4 of 8. in other zones you get to pick from 8 of 8. in this arrangement, you'd get to pick from whatever's not yet taken. and if i know human nature at all, it will usually not be the best ship in the zone. (i know when i was a mod i told people to play jav or wb to get comfortable in the zone, wtf is a newbie playing spider or shark going to do? get creamed, most likely). wait there is a number 3! what do you do when there's more than 22 people who want to play pub? make a second public arena? sounds great. but i it's rare to have more than 30 people playing pub, this whole arrangement strikes me as odd for those 8 people who'd get shafted out of the spots in the real pub. well... that's all for now... see? no hate vibes.

i don't know for sure, but i think most of the upper staff now are the remains of the people who were the ERs/mods back in the day. and a few of them know eachother irl, but they still do a good job at what they are supposed to do. what they're "supposed" to do is perhaps debatable. edit: 100 posts. booyaa.
  18. passing to a team mate? sure didn't look like it to me, unless you mean the teammate that was deeper inside the north base. i know he wasn't the only one taking the ball north. another person got banned 2 minutes before him for doing just that. it doesn't matter if the message appears in green or red. add to this the fact the bot (Should have) *Warned him when it *warped him back to the middle the first time, and i felt i did the right thing. "oh, but you didnt follow the mod protocol, you stupid newbie mod!" so i didn't follow it to the letter. so shoot me, but this wasn't rish's first time pushing the limits of staff's tolerance. zioneer, !@#$%^&*uming that what i did was wrong, when were you taught that two wrongs make a right? excuse my falling on elementary saying. here is what the subgame log should have shown: you doing the *Arena pub bot *Warning rishadan for flying ball north pub bot *Warptoing rishadan for flying ball north me ?banning rishadan for shooting ball north (not sure if it shows bang commands...) you *killing me

and how about this ?message talion:do you need any trophies made? or ?message talion:i want to run a reset-based game/league, can i send you the stuff to incorporate into the awards arena?

    Lost Dreams

mods are ers with more responsibility. but you're right once someone's a mod they usually don't host as much. there is tons of stuff to do in 17th, but alot of mods/ers don't know it (for which i imagine there are plent of reasons, real and imagined). becoming a LH (and keeping your promises for that position) is a good step to keeping your job as mod/er, making maps is always a good waste of time, and then there's things like the awards arena, which was neglected for over a year before i took it over. now, don't tell me "gee, i didn't know any of those things." I suggest the following: :pernille:do you need any maps made? :nbvegita: need any help hosting league games? :telson:need your nipples tweaked? :whoever:need any help doing (stuff you are in charge of) call it !@#$%^&*kissing if you want, it's $h17 that needs to get done. and if you aren't willing to put in the time for that kind of stuff, you belong as a player, not necessarily a staff member, in ANY zone.
  21. zioneer, the subgame log would clearly have shown you *killing me without a *warning, as ridiculous as it is to do that to another mod anyways. and as for my alleged abuse, i don't think it was. just because it's an *Arena message not a *warning doesn't excuse people for disregarding the *arena message. truth is, if rish hadn't picked that exact time to do it, he WOULD Have gotten a *warning, but he did it not even 5 minutes after the *Arena message. and it was not my fvcking problem that rish was an er that didn't even know the public arena rules. and be careful what you wish for zioneer. that's exactly right.
  22. lea and i quit. neither of us was fired, neither of us was contacted during the 48 hours after which zioneer says i abused (and which i say he abused). i don't claim to know exactly why lea quit, but i imagine it was something along the lines of "the straw the broke that horses back." interpret as you see fit. im sure zioneer still has the logs he says irrevocably prove me guilty, and since he never got to use them, i expect him to quote extensively from it once he reads this. well, if a mod hasn't locked this thread yet, which it should have long ago for borderline irrelevancy/spam/asking for flames.

sorry to hear that 3 0, but i don't think you should be surprised unless you started hosting alot more since i quit... i remember shortly after i was made er that you got fired for missing a league host match, but that got undone cause you live in aus/nz. and you never hosted alot, and you weren't on tons either to help with ?help and ?cheater requests. im not saying you deserved to be fired, but it shouldn't be a huge surprise either, especially with this rash of ERs who are in 17th, presumably, to make people work for their positions. well, im sure if you ask pern or nbv (or whoever her !@#$%^&*t is now, i have no clue), they'll say more or less the same i said above. gl in the future, and with elemental...

actually someship, that's exactly right. i only use it for messaging people about the pubwar which i will see through to its completion. and check in the 17th parallel league forum (click on the Forum Index, it appears right below this forum on the SSC network forums) to see the thread i keep talking about edit: and seeing how this thread is all about me, and it's not serving any purpose, PERMISSION GRANTED to lock it. as if you needed it :tomcat: ^^because i can
  25. DKR - the second ever SER make it happen EDIT: i dunno what it stood for for telson (suspended? supreme? super?) i assume it meant super. as in, the head ER. fear.
