It really isn't an assumption when i write words like 'probably' it means i am open to the possibility of it not being true, and just waiting for you to clarify. Also does Tempest use any energy at all? Aim bot would seem fine if it wasn't also a spam bot. Seems to fire bombs none stop.. no energy loss? Can't you just make it use energy like normal bombs, so people will have to ?buy recharge builds to supply power to the Tempest?

SilverChat: SS Continuum Chat Client (and source code)
Lone Outlaw replied to silverbullet's topic in Development
Yep silver this chat is better than anything made so far, at least Aesthetically and from what you describe in the features list. i haven't tried it, no reason to try it really, but it's pretty cool. If you get it on the biller you will have to work out some type of advanced ban system that coincides with continuums netban capabilities. This way people can't bypass netbans. -
Tempest turret is like AIM 'bot' for Counter strike. What your ship is slow? you can't rotate? You suck? Here have an aim bot. Funny thing is spidernl probably thinks he invented the thing, but DSB loops made 'aimbot' way way way before HS or TurboSlugs Everspace or Magic Kingdom got started. Except his wasn't stationary it was an actual duel bot, that could dodge. Tempest is easy to dodge if you fly back and forth like a retard, You basically need minimal movement (perhaps with afterburner for quick thrust). And it keeps getting the aim wrong. However you also have to be able to aim while doing that (to kill the opponent) and adjust to keep the same distance so he doesn't get too close. Honestly i would remove it regardless of it being adaptable to play against, it's not skill based, something you don't seem to understand, most people prefer skill over lame. Lame is only good if it helps noobs or adds to the fun, however i hear everyone complaining about Tempest, and Tempest isn't a noob item, TWO strikes, no reason to keep it. My wish is that everyone on these forums should be less selfish. Alot of you are the eptiomy of selfishness, which if you don't believe in evil, would qualify as a good substitute. That or Stupidity. If 20 people get in a lanc and have a tempest when spidernl is playing, (if he ever plays pub), he would die so often i am pretty sure he would adjust the turret or remove it. That's how you get all mods/zone owners to change things, just abuse it or kill them a lot in game, so they begin to understand it's unbalanced. I've seen it happen before and i always laugh.

Black theme sucks anyway, i prefer white. You seem like one of the nerds who is all like BLACK YEAHH.

You could have just said right now cloak uses energy by reducing your recharge rate by 1/3rd. As long as it's not taking energy away from your ship, then it's fine. There have been cloaks which when active, will slowly reduce your energy bar to 0. Which is ridiculous. Making cloak nullify your recharge is not a big deal, as long as it doesn't reduce energy. i think most people wouldn't see it as a bad change, except for the hard core cloakers like Falcon Amp or whoever. It's always and obviously up to you, i just don't see how it's a big nerf. You can still get the job done, you are just required to be more skilled/smart about it.

Really you cherry picked to try find a case where i assume something? And that's the best you could come up with? A bad example of me not assuming things? An assumption would be, all mines are not repellable, despite the fact i didn't check. And i wouldn't tell you i didn't check. i would just say they are not repellable. Hence a horrible assumption. The fact i made it clear i didn't check, shows i am open minded and not assuming anything, that i already accepted the possibility they could be repellable and i just don't know yet. Also i didn't say what mines are in HS, i just gave my opinion on what i think they 'should' be. Saying mines are not repellable, is the assumption. Saying mines should be repellable is an opinion. i wrote the sentance in a very specific way for a very specific reason.. Notice i ask a ton of questions before declairing anything too. That's also a sign that i am not guilty of assuming stuff as much as you two are. You guys like to read in between the lines with me, and the problem is, there is no in between the lines, i am pretty damn direct and straight forward, i leave nothing out, if i am upset about cloak because i got owned, i would tell you, there is no shame in it. i didn't tell you because thats not the reason i had the idea. Spidernl how would cloak use twice as much energy if recharge was disabled? My suggestion was that use of cloak, does not consume energy at all. And when active no recharge.
-
You have several serious flaws you need to work on spidernl. One of them is called assumption. It is my favorite saying that assumption is the mother of all F ups. But anyway. I never said Cloaking is overpowered, nor is it the reason i suggested it, nor did a cloaker kill me, and i decided to come on and post about nerfing. First i don't even consider this a nerf. I consider this the way it should be in a zone that respects skill based game play, something you obviously do not. There is no nerf in disabling recharge while cloaked because a person uncloaks when they fire anyway, which means recharge would re-activate during combat. And since Xradar has its own nerf (limited recharge while active) cloak should follow with the same setting as xradar. Also, some people have cloaked, and my Xradar could not find them. So either i misunderstood something, or there are more advanced cloaks which a tachyon item can't pick up etc. In which case you are pretty wrong about Xradar negating cloak in all situations. "Because players can still slowly recharge while cloaked, they can remain cloaked at low energy and thus not die". Who said this? I never wrote this anywhere? Where you quoting yourself? i would never say this, because if you get hit while cloaked, you suck anyway, so i don't need your recharge to be disabled to kill you. And as it is right now, if i hit a cloaker, they will uncloak right away anyway, because they know i can see them. I said disable recharge completely. Not to cloak and to lose energy, and not to cloak and only have limited recharge. No recharge at all when cloaked was my suggestion. So if you had 1200 energy, and got shot to 500 energy while cloaked, if you keep the cloak active, you will be stuck at 500 energy. I didn't make this suggestion from the perspective of a noob trying to kill a cloaker, which is funny you think that. I was actually thinking of playing a cloaker, i made this suggestion as a person interested in playing a cloaked ship. i am not interested unless its more of a challenge. Secondly i don't need to play more to suggest anything, HS is fairly easy to pick up and understand once you learn the commands, and ?iteminfo every item, and type ?status a few times. Plus i played the past week a few hours every day. Carebear means the zone caters to noobs, rather than promoting skilled game play, i can take a cloaked ship and wreak lots of havoc with the current settings, i was actually doing everyone a favor suggesting you change it.
-
Cloaking should disable recharge. Hence you need to actually be good at cloaking to get cloak kills and use it. IE not get hit while you are cloaked at least. And if you do get hit, have to uncloak if you want to recharge. Similar to how Xradar will handicap recharge. Does HS have a website? All Mines should be repellable, unless they are, i didn't check. If wah wah some noob will repel mines into team, wah wah, then all i can say to you is carebear zone. Important commands like ?flag, /?attach, ?status, ?iteminfo, ?shipstatus, ?money, ?buy Need to be somewhere noobs can find them. F1 isn't good enough, nor would a website be.

i would still prefer, a top bar and drop down menu system like continuum. View, Resolution, Skin, Help (from continuum) Are you really need.

Whats the percent of gaming done on phones or other touch screen devices? 1%? Not even. i don't know why everyone is designing things for mobile platforms. A laptop sucks, so would an iPad, so would a phone. Unless your game is designed like the games for the DS it won't fly anywhere except on PC or a gaming system. But anyway it looks nice, add player count and lag/ping to server. Like the ship and it's name also.

Saturn is retro also. They used to put saturn in all the sci fi comics and magazines in the 20's - 50's to signify science and space etc. Most continuum skins you can actually change everything, button location, size, and even the size of the launcher. If you make it the same then it should be okay. Eventually later on someone will design something nice, or you can grab elements from a few designs, and make a more official launcher. (of course give them credit)

I'll pay by page if you sort through that.

Fundamental Problems with Continuum (development/security/bans etc) ASSS doesn't really solve the problems of continuum development, it just makes development possible for people who know how to code in difficult languages, which still leaves a strangle hold on development, because these people are usually... 1. jerks 2. have no time/don't give a shit about the zone as much as the players who actually play it. 3. big procrastinators or lazy Usually they fall into category 2, which means tons of people will still want updates, events, changes in their respective zones, but only 2 or 3 people per a zone (USUALLY 1) will be capable of coding these in ASSS, and we will AGAIN be dependant on ONE person, to get anything done. SURE MORE will be possible with ASSS, but you solve no problems otherwise. Examples HS: only coder is essentially Spidernl (might be more but i don't hear/know of them coding) DSB: only coder is Entropy (does nothing, has no time) Devastation: only coder is Avihay? occassionally resol? (zone owner can't code modules) The Pheonix client will have real time map editing, so i can make changes, to scripting, push play, and watch my changes in action. This enables me who knows no programming to literally learn by trial and error, meaning i could do complicated game designs in hours, what would take you the same time to code in C++, all with less coding knowledge, and since Pheonix uses scripting, we no longer have to learn complicated C++ or C or whatever it is. Other games which do this are Furcadia, which has its own programming language, something like Turing, or Java, but it's called Dragon speak, you just select "if and statements", and there is code behind it which does everything else. So yeah you are not solving any fundamental problems with the game, just making it all ASSS, there will still be fundamental dev problems, fundamental ban problems (no new features to deal with players in a better way), there will still be lack of anything getting done, and complaints, whereas the system pheonix is aiming for, and the system i propose, truly sparks development on every level, it allows the lay-man to develop and put out extensive updates of quality. We will no longer be relying on one guy with specialized knowledge who doesn't give a shit out the zone or has no time. Pheonix will be done! Also Pheonix client will get completed, so saying NO client will ever be done is a bold statement, especially considering how much progress Richard has made so far. Some History Keep in mind what i say is a very real problem, you are essentially making a better continuum, but with all the same core problems, which means in the end it will only be as successful as continuum is right now. Polix realized the issues with Development, and tried to unite every zone development team, and i think he possibly tried to make a library of modules. Since many zones have similar events, one could release modules for such events, and then the respective zones would only have to make minor changes to such modules, in effect creating a module library, so even zones without full time coders could have modules. Of course the zone wide development chat he created remains largely empty today, and it never went too far. All of these issues just get more prevalent as continuum dwindles in population, and they wont be solved just because we all switch to ASSS.

The owner screwed us over with skype too by selling it to microsuck, now it has all these bugs.

As long as it at least meets those three critera, 1. banned from the zone in which the person you are pming resides in 2. asked to stop and didn't 3. switched names to evade ignore Once i was net banned despite none of the critera being met. Another time i got netbanned, however i was banned from a zone, but didn't evade and wasn't asked to not PM. (as i was discussing why i was banned in the first place) Since idiot's who ban don't even tell you. And they list no reasons in the ban log, so even the other sysop couldn't tell me. (IE no reason 'usually' means they had nothing legit to ban you for) The funny thing is most people know if they ask me not to PM them, i will stop Pm'ing them, because i know the rules very well and i follow them. So they never ask because they want to netban me.
-
The point im making is that people who are 'known' somewhere in the community generally don't break rules but they get netbanned regardless. Hence Tyranny. If you are actually following the rules yourselves then it wouldn't be facism. It would be more like a Monarchy, or something. King and people. Even a representative republic. As most zone owners listen to their players. Sure we have those no name cheaters who enter the game once every few months, no one heard of them, because they are banned before they are known. They make a name, cheat, banned. i play HZ and Devastation. If netban does just as well, it seems we need to break your netban, so you will be forced to get off your ass and code something. There is always someone on the internet more 'powerful' than you are. One day you will ban them, and boom your server will be offline every weekend from some guy who can run circles around your security. Conflict always spurrned progress. Beccaria, Cesare 1738 - 1794 The Italian author of On Crimes and Punishments, published in 1764 Punishment should fit the crime. Not someone steals a loaf of bread, and you lob off both their hands. We did away with stupid shit like that because of Beccaria. Which by the way influenced LAW from there after. Why should typing across a zone be netbannable? The appropriate punishment for spamming is gagging. Otherwise if you are excess in punishment, people will be excess in retaliation. If they feel they deserved it, and you didn't abuse powers, then no one would care. People don't break rules, and then complain when they are punished. Only a stupid moron would do that, the complaints come from when they think they didn't break a rule, they didn't break a rule, or the punishment for whatever rule they broke was too excessive. Eliminate all three, and you have punishments that fit the crime, and criminals who know they deserved it so they don't fight back. It's pretty simple logic. The funniest part of this is that a troll is teaching morals and ethics. Not only that but you end up being respected by your enemies and friends alike. Kings who were harsh didn't stay in power long.

Further i find it funny people throughout continuum will have general threads about politics, iran, china, tyrannies all over the world. In these threads people will post their views why these country's are bad, to bomb them etc. If we don't take a side then most of us at least feel happy we live in North America, or Europe where we enjoy such freedoms the first amendment and bill of rights gives, or your own countries constitutions. However, then these same people who complain about Iran and how uncivlized, uneducated, stupid they are; go online and run their own dictatorships. Bunch of hypocryts. Stop posting your political views at least, because you don't live what you enjoy or preach. And it's fucking unrealistic to think you can beat out of people the idea of freedom of speech or due process, or a chance for recourse to address grievances done by the government. How can you expect us who lived 20 years in a free country, to just shut up and listen to some authority imposed by some guy who wants to ban or silence us if we don't agree. Maybe if i was born in Iran and i was playing continuum, i would accept your mini dictatorship. These things were considered fundamental human rights by Thomas Paine, John Locke, and Thomas Jefferson. We already went through a French revolution and American revolution. America isn't perfect, and it's based on slavery, but at least today, 2012, most of you enjoy these rights, that others had to bleed and die for. People bleed and die for these rights today, just so they can vote in their country. And here you are, on the internet, running your fantasy Tyranny, half of you probably don't even vote, living in the lap of luxury. Keep shitting on your ideals. "OH NO BUTS ITS THE INTERNT" nope it's part of who you are. i would say what you do online defines who you are in person and in life more than the other way around. As if you had a life to define you, you wouldn't be here. Of course Tyranny is never opposed from above - it's sought from below. So i would only blame the players for supporting anyone who abuses powers online or runs their zone like a dictatorship. He that would make his own liberty secure, must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty, he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself. - Thomas Paine

Right now it is, because the rule is as old as the client. On a new client hopefully there will be net-gags, instead of netbans, or something else to get rid of it. Because you are essentially getting rid of someone, (banning them) for talking. Not spamming. Talking. 50% of the cross-zone spam netban cases, the person was disputing their zone ban. The person recieving the PMS deems it spam, yet doesn't give the player a chance for recourse. Because ban disputes are banned on forums (at least in dsb). And no e-mail is given. If you e-mail the OP who banned you, they ban you longer for harassment. (just from 1 e-mail). As well when an e-mail is given, it's usually the e-mail of the person who banned you. Not an objective third party. So shove your system up your ass. So technically, they ban you from a zone (throw you on the floor), then when you PM to ask why, they call it cross zone spam, and netban you (kick you while your down) Aren't you guys smart, probably why you invented the rule in the first place. To be Sadists. And in this case, if he was netbanned first, there was no cross zone spamming. Also PM'ing someone from another zone is not a reason to netban. The person 1. has to be banned from that zone. 2. Has to have evaded an ?ignore. 3. Or not stopped when told to stop. (according to the actual netban rules that are in place, written down right now, of course option 3 is something i added, only 1 and 2 officially count - see how generous i am?) If those three criteria are not in place, its clear and direct abuse by the netOp. And leaving ?messages polix: is not cross zone spamming. It's one message per a day.

Whats this have to do with english. Shouldn't you be writing essays and stuff? -
It's called Precedent look it up in a law book sometime. The precedent for bans on Continuum, is that they are 95% for nothing. Especially when the poor idiot involved doesn't know how to unban. They likely don't know how to cheat either. Or why else cheat ? So they could get banned forever ? He doesn't seem emo, he wants to play the game, so it's likely he wouldn't do something severe to jepeordize that need. i know if i was going to cheat i would make sure i could unban first. It's also called Benefit fo the doubt. Learn it someday, maybe with a renewed trust in humanity you will treat everyone a little less like criminals. It's also called speaking in general terms. Using words like 'probably' 'whatever' 'maybe only' Means i made no definitive strong argument that he did nothing wrong. It also means i declared a lack of facts by using those words. It means i take it upon faith, and experience, that the ban was pointless, and should have been a zone ban. Netban for cross zone spamming is dumb and as archaic as the client itself. Any ban for anything other than cheating is stupid. That doesn't mean he didn't cheat, but i doubt there is evidence, it's just someones ego trip against someone they don't like, as usual. I've seen hoch ban people and claim their was evidence they hacked or cheated and Hoch proved to be a liar, because in those specifc cases it was revealed no such evidence existed, took 3 years though. As if i was born yesterday, continuum is as corrupt as a baby's worn diapers.
-
i had a blog on how to unban, its a lot harder when they find your real information, technically you should hope they ban fake info, then you can change the fake stuff. And they never get the real info. Honestly whatever you did probably only warrants at most a zone ban, and even then i think its excessive. They should remove that netban altogether, but then they don't like admitting they can be wrong, and to them you probably deserve it just based on who you are. Not any actual important rule breaking.
-
You mean the netban op's can't distinguish lag from cheating? 90 days for lagging. LOL Can i become netop too? There is a bunch of Euros and Aussies i want to ban. You know what spit, they probably mistook you for me, and banned you. For the 100th time, i don't hide on other names. *cough* resol, *cough* polix. And when i do use other names i always tell people who i am. i hate smurfs.
-
is that why he was netbanned?
-
Lol, netbanned, is that really necessary, even im not netbanned right now, im just banned from 1 zone for life. DO these netban admins mean to tell me he is worse than i am?! Get a ban free, if spidernl won't, i think tm_master would have (if his zone was on biller) So long as your netban was for a really stupid reason that is, if you cheated, then you are out of luck. Suprised tm_master wasn't netbanned.
