  1. You are banned from the whole game or just HS? Lot's of us can live without HS. Buwahaha
  2. Your whole post kind of speaks for itself, and displays the maturity of someone who deserves biller access. There was someone else you didn't like besides Falconeer. Forget there name, but you wanted to ban them from Devastation too. Not sure if you went through with it. As well i think JDS doesn't like you for some reason. Maybe you banned him? You realize when you banned Falconeer he was not netbanned from anywhere. The netban came in place afterwards. Your facts are skewed or you are lying. However when falconeer was netbanned by Polix, tm_master would often lift the ban. Tm_master obviously saw some value to having falconeer there or he would have banned falc himself. Why is it your judgement has value over others? Especially when the 'others', is the zone owner? You say to respect what a zone owner wants to do with the players in their zone. (in your case ban them) yet you didn't respect tm_master. You are clearly hypocritical. Blu- is not falconeer. And you haven't witnessed constant trolling (all day), if you flip from one or two in game messages you are clearly unstable. Falc was afk when you banned him because he was at school, and because tm requested that he stay there to add to the population. There was no trolling. Though there was definitely trolling afterward. When you banned falc a second time. You just saw a troll and thought it would be fun to ban them, since you thought you could justify the ban. Similar to a nazi seeing a jew, and thinking it will be fun to kill them, because they can justify it.
  3. Resol, sorry to be critical but i hate hypocrisy. You ban people all the time from your zones, i can give numerous examples, where you banned people from Devastation, a zone that wasn't even yours. And Tm master had to remove your powers because you proceeded to ban him, totally disrespecting his zone.. Like-wise, you banned blu- from Tri-sector, so on and so on. Maybe now you get a sense of what it's like to be banned for no real reason other than, people can ban you, and don't like you. (even though it's a 'ban' on your zone request) In that respect you act no differently, you deny people from your zone based on the same personal motivations with which people deny your server access. You have proven to be unstable. Not rational, not level-headed, shifting in attitudes, and in your own way perhaps not in forums, but in game you've been just as much as a troll as those you condemn. Many times i saw you trying to troll Tm_master, calling him a Pedophile in his own zone chat. Beyond this you use your sense of knowledge of the game over others as some sort of justification of your superiority over them. Something Polix doesn't do, generally SSC tries to respect everyone. This doesn't mean you should be judged, perhaps everyone deserves at least one chance. But at best if your statements are true about SSC, it makes you quite the hypocrite. i make no excuses for SSC, many who run zones, are apart of zones, resorted to the same tactics of banning people, some hide behind pretty rules, others like Brain are at least honest enough to say "what i say goes, because it's my time, and my zone." And as i understood in the past there were little wars, which Death+ could tell stories about around a camp fire. Wars where the current people in charge crossed a boundary on occasion, shut down zones, abused powers, and were generally pretty much immature. But i suspect most of SSC has grown up by now. For whatever statements i make about others, i tend not to do the same thing as them, in that sense i am different and my claims carry more weight. Though i guess one can read my letter a different way. In that perhaps you belong on SSC, because there is not much difference between you and them.
  4. Not especially, i've had this problem before, but i forget the exact reason, please send me the tile. It likely has to do with tile size, pixel count, or save format or something. Might be you are making 24 bit on an 8 bit tile set? i can't remember exactly, i need to go through the problem, and receive the error again to solve it.
  5. Reading is for noobs, real pros become dev, get their own arena, and crash servers. Then they say sorry, didn't know not to change that setting to that.. DSB already has LVZ present greens, i could give you there's. i think i have it saved.
  6. There is a replace tile option Edit -> Switch/Replace You can also replace the actual graphic with the new graphic in the tile-set. Edit -> Edit Tileset
  7. The server can be centrally operated, which i wouldn't really find ideal at all, because you rely one person 'Richard' to do anything that concerns the server or biller. Much like we rely on Priitk right now. If Richard decides to stop caring one day or becomes busy then centrally operated becomes a problem. Likewise, if the server was centrally operated, it would still allow zones to be autonomous, with their own content, game-play, style etc, and a person or zone owner who oversees and runs their respective zones. You would still need someone to run a zone. And it allows for anyone to join the central hub with their own zone ideas. As opposed to having one guy in charge of 10 zones, trying to update them all according to their different game play, and likely having limited ideas because he or she is only one person. The way the system is now allows for more creativity, and freedom. Personally i like that continuum has a few server hosts. If we disagree with the hosts of Trench Wars we can always play on zones whose server is run by Numpf etc. If one server goes down, the other server will be active. You might have to define centrally operated better.
  8. Well as long as zones can still have their freedom and autonomy, then it's not too bad. Keep in mind this LOL system needs to work in a way were each zone would still be run by their respective zone owners. We want the community to be able to create zones to allow for everyone's ideas to be represented. Any new client wants to keep the freedom given to the players to run their own zones. So any pay system will have to respect that freedom, and also respect the originality and differences of each zone. So unlike LOL the game is not static and fixed to one central game-play. Each zone will have it's own style of game. Hyperspace focuses on buying weapons, ships, etc with in game currency, the only zone of it's kind. Other zones don't want to adopt that system at all, they want everyone to have the same ship, and are primarily based on flagging, or league game play. EG is a fast paced fly over a green to get it's surprise upgrade zone, while DSB is a more wear them down no instant kill zone. Trench wars is your instant kill, make your shot count zone. Etc, im sure you played continuum. In this way you need to find a common theme for every zone, where you can sell one item, and it won't affect the originality of the zone in any way, and won't screw with other zones. Buying a +1 speed upgrade might be fine for Hyperspace, but not for Deathstarbattle. So this leads me to believe you will need multiple stores, for each zone. Similar to what OMGPOP.COM has for each of it's games. Or someway to buy a customization that every zone would agree with. Either that or just sell skins for the client, or in-game windows. As well this system will be more easily accepted if there actually is a way to earn in game points and eventually buy items with those points, as opposed to always needing a credit card.
  9. i wouldn't adopt such a system, we play games to get away from society and capitalism, the last thing i need is to bring real world money into a game, in order to look good, or have advancements. It's enough we have to conform to society by buying a house, living next to neighbors, and being forced to mow our lawns. Then having what kind of car you drive as some sort of status symbol, as well as how you dress, and if you can afford a cell phone for your 12 year old kids. Why do i need the same type of elitism in a game? Again this only creates an atmosphere where people have things you don't have in the game. It makes others feel insecure, inadequate, and creates different classes of people. The best option if you want in game revenue, is to sell accounts. So you can have for example a player account, with full access to the biller server. But on this account, you can only have 1 name. If you want more than 1 name, you have to pay 5$ to buy a premium account, the only difference being you can have up to 10 names on the biller. That's it, no in game items (making players better than others), and no in game customizations. Just more names through the premium account. As we all know the zones themselves will be unique and separate from each other, so each zone will decide what ships there are, and customizations. You can't impose any of this on a zone. So the whole buying add ons, and customizations doesn't fly anyway, unless Richard was prepared get rid of zone owners, and have 10 servers, all under his control. Which he is not. The account system can be individualized, instead of a whole account with 10 names, you can buy name slots, for 1$ each. So your free account, can have up to 10 names, if you buy the slots. i don't really see a problem with buying name space, and it will deter most name collectors who don't have money or feel it's worth paying for. There will be less smurfs also. Idiot's wont just make a name in 5 seconds to troll someone. And names slots that are bought generally will be used and so most people will be known in game. As well it allows for revenue to always come in from players. As name creation is the big thing. Instead of 5$ from 1000 people, for a total of 5000$, you will always have revenue coming in slowly without the difference in ships, or items among players, without the need for people to feel inadequate or that they are missing some portion of the game because they can't afford it. Without the advantages of some players over others, because someone bought +1 speed. If you want to purchase shit for your ship, wait for Hyperspace zone to make it to one of the new clients, and advocate to spidernl to ask for money for ship upgrades. This is a zone level decision, not Richards.
  10. Why would they quit? Because they don't like the new client? Unlikely, both new clients offer improvements, unless people hate a better continuum or improved client, they won't quit. They wouldn't see the new clients as being an improvement? Well i don't see how, both clients offer everything continuum does, keeping the same feel, game-play aspects, and look, they only add more to customization or security. The only reason people wouldn't seek the new client, is if they don't know about it, but im sure zones on continuum just wouldn't decide to shut down today, and be offline tomorrow, they will still be online in continuum anywhere from 1 to 6 months, disabling events and bots/modules, as they transition those events and bots/modules to phoenix or Aphelion servers. The last thing to be cancelled would be the zones league. And by then 1-6 months would have gone by already, allowing for most of their player base to be informed of the transition to the new client, and the new server. You can expect to lose maybe 10% of players, but then everyone who is out of the loop would come to SSforums eventually to see if continuum is dead. And they would find ssforums supporting the new client. People who are not curious enough to do a google search or ask a friend, well who needs them around. Plus im sure once a client becomes successful, and has most of the population, GETcontinuum will be updated to GetAphelion or GetPhoenix, while keeping the continuum search tags, domain name, etc for google searches. So basically if the zones are shut down, they should be given 1 to 6 months to shut themselves down, or transition to the new client, whatever the client may be. And honestly i wouldn't worry if a client is not up to par yet. Because once there is 500-1000 people there, all the coders would step up the game with updates, to make the client better in every aspect. So if there are any faults, eventually they won't exist.
  11. Honestly Richard is making the most progress according to him. And from what i've seen. The java client started earlier, but i don't know. Part of it will be decided by who finishes first. And i wouldn't bet that the community actually get's split, you would need a good initial population for that, and currently from 1000 online everyday of a pool of 5000 players, we are down to around 500 online, and 1000 or more players. No way 250 play on one client, while 250 play at another. It is likely that whichever client picks up first, will just continue to gain ground, people want to be where there is 1. people 2. established zones. And being first to finish your client will ensure you are the first with established zones most likely. i highly doubt there will be a split let alone a significant split unless there are some very special circumstances.. However the solution to the problem i was getting at, is if servers and zones did set up on Phoenix client first, in the event Aphelion was completely not used ever, because all the zones and players were on Phoenix client, then couldn't we have the Java client given access to those servers, so anyone can play on Phoenix zones, from the java client (Aphelion), thus allowing game play from browser/phones. i think Aphelion could be easily adapted to do that, since it's already set up to connect to continuum zones no? Again i am speaking of one possible scenario, take no offense. It could likewise be the other way around, or Aphelion might even reach Beta stage first. (Of course we understand there is no competition here) Not what i am getting at, and i wouldn't concern myself with petty things like that.
  12. i think the best option is upon install, after the i agree terms and services, before you choose folder to install, just add an option to donate up to 5$ only. So none of this full limit crap where you ask for any amount, i think more people would donate if you asked for up to 5$ only, as opposed to donate anything even 10,000$ which pissed me off in that other thread. And link your installer with some pay-pal thing. i would definitely donate the full amount of 5$ and then install the game. If anything you are better off doing something like 5$ to make an account, installer is free, (Without account you can play on any random name that only lasts for 1 day) This is similar to the game Altitude. If you do free to play, but pay for extras, then you get into a whole shit storm of some players being better/having advantage over others. Even if its some simple customizations that don't affect game play, it's still bad, because there will be an even bigger split in game between people who are premium or people who aren't. It's completely the wrong road. 1. Either free to play, pay 2-5$ for an account (each account can have up to 10 names) (basically pay for full biller options) 2. Free to play, donate up to 5$ 3. Pay for the installer 5$. (of course the installer will get around, you'll need some authentication codes updated weekly, upon install must be connected to the internet, to match the new code, with the one in the server, or you'll need some type of CD key system for online play.) Personally i prefer option 1, followed closely by 2. If you go over 5$ it will be too much. Also consider little kids don't have paypal or credit cards, so be sure to add a gift option. P.S 5$ is the price of 2 expensive coffees, so, unless you make less than 11k a year, or you never buy coffee it's a good deal.
  13. Amsterdam? When i move i can get a 100+ Mb/s connection RIGHT now my area/provider only supports 5Mb/s
  14. 2008 is still fresh.. If it was 2006 then it's old.
  15. What do you mean by no central authority? Right now Java Space (Aphelion) is being worked on by Jabjab and Jowie (maybe others). If something goes wrong, or an update is needed. Does this mean people will not need to rely on you? locate you? etc. Everyone can access and work on the code? So the client itself is not dependent upon one person? Is that what you mean by no central authority? What is the copyleft? Phoenix is dependent on Richard right now, because he is the only coder for the project, But i am sure every zone will have access, be able to make their own zones, hosted on their own servers etc. and Phoenix will be customizable enough to never require any interference from him, as people can use the client, to do anything they require. Only thing that might be needed are security updates. And who knows, perhaps Richard won't centralize authority on Phoenix updates. Maybe he will bring others into the fold. Can't really speak for him. You guys are not that slow, still coming along pretty well.
  16. i asked you what your doing a few posts back, and you never replied Post #352 http://www.subspace....340#entry285279 But thanks for the reply finally, btw do you know the 4 D's of a morally corrupt institution? Denial - Deny there is a problem until it's so obvious you can't deny it anymore Delay - Since you can't deny the problem, delay the action on it, send people to do a study first, or claim you have no money, give people the run around, refuse to talk to people, etc Discredit - Discredit the person presenting the problem to you in hopes no one pays attention to them after Divide or Minimize - Make the problem seem small, so you can continue your abuse.
  17. lol Unix first idea i've seen that is worse than my idea of paying programmers by the page. But really, cheese already made a good point, if you make a rating system (besides the ratings being inaccurate not based on actual skill at all, but skewed perceptions and personal favoritism) A rating system will also create a situation where the teams are always pretty much the same. 1. Either they will be the same player wise. 2. They will be the same skill wise (this was your goal, but it's a dumb thing, similar to living in a perfect world, consider if earth was perfect, would you really want to live here?) 3. Two players may never be on the same team if they are rated the same. (possibly for months) A. Consider if every day the same players are in the zone, every day there will be the same two teams virtually. (Technically every day it pretty much is the same players in a zone at a given time; so say 10:00PM eastern) Players 1a,1b,2a,2b,3a,3b,4a,4b,5a,5b First team option Team 1 1a,2a,3a,4a,5a Team 2 1b,2b,3b,4b,5b Second team option Team 1 1a,2b,3a,4b,5a Team 2 1b,2a,3b,4a,5b These are the only 2 real mixes, if you tell the module to alternate players so the same two teams are created daily, then it might work better. But then you'd have to program probability into the module. Another team is 1a,2b,3b,4b,5b, vs 1b,2a,3a,4a,5a Of course you can see it's virtually the same two teams, with two players alternating spots. And the numbers represent player ratings. So the teams are made so that ratings are equal across both teams. B. Again if two people are rated 5, for example, they may have a chance to switch teams, however, if they are the only players rated 5 who are online, they will likely never face each other. So already two 5's will never get to play with each other unless there are four players online who are rated 5. C. Supposing it's not the same players everyday, then maybe the teams will be different every time. Then further supposing, there are more than two players rated 5, then maybe 5's will get to play with each other sometimes. Which leads us to the last problem presented by your idea which is that teams will be relatively the same skill wise. The problem here being that it's pretty much boring. It's nice to have some teams differing in skill, to be faced with a challenge, to be so good you can carry 3 new players, and so on. And then again, any system which presumes to judge someones skill, or intelligence is flawed, you can go to University and quickly learn this 1. Generally it's a place for stupid people 2. IQ tests don't measure much (tons of peer reviewed journals on this) 3. Knowledge is not the basis of education but money (for the institution its to take your money, and for most, its to get a degree so they can get a job and make money) Society still has slavery. 4. It's not what you know but either how much time you have, how much detail you put into your essays, or how well you follow instructions (those even being the instructions of how to write a proper essay) You could have the best essay filled with details, content, amazing ideas, and still only get a B+ So again any systems based on ratings are flawed, Just because i get an A+ in school (which i do) doesn't make me any more intelligent than the guy who gets a B or even a C, many smart people are failing, don't even attend school (lots of smart people have no degrees), or it just means i have a different strategy or work harder. (which i generally don't, as lazy as the next guy)
  18. How is a space to atmosphere ship not plausible? I'm talking about plausibility in science fiction as it pertains to someday existing in the real world. Not plausible in continuum. Almost shit is plausible in this dinosaur of a client (continuum). Even the Java client doesn't allow for as much possibility as the Phoenix Client. Transparent windows in space, probably not. But windows comprised solely of a force-field may someday be possible.
  19. Out of context is a nice way to show you are intelligent! Aerodynamic, if it's a space to atmosphere combat ship. Not that any game is capable of such a game play, but books i've read have such things anyway.
  20. Yeah i can imagine things too. Maybe its a type of energy formed deflector shield, i've watched star trek. Obviously i thought of all the possibilities of what it could be. In question here is not your imagination or mine. What i learned is that, in order for something to be 'science fiction' it has to deal with what is plausible. i could make a more plausible heat sink, deflector shield, warp generator, given by the thousands of better examples of such things that are out there, from startrek, or starwars etc. The problem here is that many people assume what is in games, books, or other areas, are things that developers or writers made up, but they actually take designs and ideas from the real world. So is this design ever likely to happen in the building of a spacecraft? Probably not, at least not to me. Engineering wise there are better ways to implement a warp drive on a ship (again based from other designs i've seen). If one had a degree in engineering they would know beyond words, but through experience, that some designs are better for various reasons, either saving materials, or for stress/structural integrity purposes, for more efficiency and so on. If it's not plausible, then its called 'fantasy'. Unless your talking about gene splicing then maybe combining a horse with a Narwhal can get us to unicorns someday. It's just a bad design no matter what purpose you can think of for it. it's not offensive or anything, i could live with it (and most likely will), it grows on you, plus in a 2D game you'll barely see the underside of the ship. But meh. At any rate, something has to be said for all the work Jab did, and effort he put into the ships regardless, i never did as much work to put forth my own ideas, so good job either way. i am not trying to be ungrateful or anything, the designs are all almost perfect, i just focused on one or two things that bother me, but don't take it as if i think they are horrible, i just focus on negative aspects more. The ships are good. Some parts of some ships, are very impressive. i just tend not to talk about things i find i like, or find no fault in, i usually don't express what i agree with, because well, i agree with it.. So basically if i only narrowed in on the circle under the terrier, it likely means everything else i think is good..
  21. Terr actually is close to the color it is in current game. If you notice colors on warbird are more red, than the color of the terr in continuum. (i think) not gonna bother logging in to check. (going from my poor memory) Honestly that circle under your terr is what throws me off, structurally not needed at all. My opinion on ships is that they look better when they are more based in reality. So it could be space art, But i personally think it's better when designed with engineering principles in mind. ie aerodynamics if it's a space-to-atmosphere combat ship. Or fuel cells, shield generators. If your going to break off the wing of the warbird, and add two bars, and then recontinue the wing, there has be more of a reason than "i just want it to look different from the original, and can't think of anything else" changing things in an attempt to be unique is the worst reason to change things. Because usually you make something already good, worse. Now one reason to add that break in the wings, is that the wings themselves move up or down, like in an actual X-WING, or the flaps on a real plane. Of course you made the wings straight, so it doesn't really do anything, if the wings curved downwards after that break, it would fit the design. As for the terrier, perhaps if the circle was closer to the hull and more rectangular it would fit more. Then the ships seem a bit sharp, perhaps removing the 1 line things on Jav, Spider, and Weasel, Weasel is missing something, there is absolutely no hint of the old weasel in it (unless you want it to feel like a new ship entirely)
  22. Lots of crooks in the world, from programmers, to dentists.. horrible people most of the time. Eyeglasses follow close behind. Of course if you have insurance you won't care that they charge 500$ at the dentist.
  23. You'll be banning him forever, enforcing bans on browsers is pretty hard i think compared to continuum. He is having a hard time unbanning though. But it's almost as annoying as you having to ban him. Which basically means him and the mods can sue for peace, to get the immaturity out of the way, and have a relatively stress free year. Unless you want the stress of always having to renew someones ban. And unless he wants the stress of having to unban. Why not work out some agreement? i don't see why a forum ban should extend to the game, or the game should extend to the forums. If he broke considerable in game rules, then perhaps a netban is good for a month? But going beyond a month, based on text is kind of immature in itself. Unless he was cheating. If he wasn't banned from the game, he wouldn't bother too much with unbanning from the forums. As he could relieve his conscience in game., Likewise if he only broke a forum rule, why is he even banned in game? Counter to that, if he only broke a game rule, why is he banned on forums? It's all pretty lame, i don't even find any serious fault with his posts, except they are off topic sometimes.
  24. i remember most Old zones, posting screens will jog my memory.. Specifically remember in detail Chaos zone, and Dueling Arizona, 17th Parallel, and a few others which name escapes me at the moment.
  25. As long as it works on Ubuntu.. You've got talent.
