  1. This is old, chances are everything you know about the internet, i know more.. since i live here..
  2. i never played any advanced zones, but i remapped my keys to optimal use with a normal setting zone ` - Bullets Tab - Bomb Shift Tab - Mine F3 - Thor Shift Ctrl - Burst Del - Multi Shift End - Anti Home - Stealth Shift Home - Cloak End - Xradar Ctrl - Repel Num1 - Warp Num0 - Portal F5 - Decoy Shift ` - Rocket F4 - Brick F7 - Attach Left Hand So index finger on tab Middle finder on ` And then it's easy to fire bullets and bombs. Thumb does shift ctrl for burst, or ctrl for repel. Shift with thumb, and tab with index to lay a mine. Shift with thumb, and ` with middle finger to rocket. Going from bullets to rocket is fast as hell, which is what i wanted, while keeping everything accessible to 1 hand. F3 is out of the ways slightly, but close enough that i just need to leave the firing controls for a split second. (i don't need fast use on thors) As for f7, no one needs a faster attach, if you can't attach before death timer runs out and you respawn, you fail =p. And i don't use attach as a method for escape, plus after 10 years im used to f7. Right Hand Well Shift Home, and Home do all the stealth and cloaking (id say it's average speed, you still have hands on arrow keys) You use thumb on shift, and middle finger on home. Shift end, and end well shift end gives your x-radar, and end your anti, so basically same system of thumb and middle finger Warp is num1, and num0 for fastest response. Actually my keys are optimal for any zone, i was pwning in HS. Positives Firing, Bomb, Repel, Warp, and Rocket speed Negatives You can miss a burst if you don't use thumb right. Otherwise burst is very fast also.
  3. Well no idea who that's directed towards, but to reflect, i never insult anyone, i discuss ideas, but i can find many examples where people insult me. Also i can find many examples where people disagreed with me, and i let them.. as i respect your freedom to have your own thoughts. There is a point where two people will differ on opinion, and both understand all the details. Now i won't get mad if you understand my position and disagree. i won't even reply in most cases, because there is no point. If you see me do reply, it's because im just discussing the idea further. Otherwise if you like orange, and i like red, why would i argue you like orange? It's your damn right to like whatever you want.
  4. Hey my replies are not all that negative.. and most of them are 900 words.. i checked =p the 500th TLDR from cheese made me curious
  5. A system where ownership must be proven is still good. However it's probably better if the whole system became automated in the first place, so you or someone else is not directly involved. This way even though someone with access could look at my personal information, it's like they will have no cause or reason too, so my privacy is protected more. Such are the recovery systems of most e-mails and games. If you forget your password, there are steps to recover it. The current in-game recovery system is inadequate. Simply because it relies on e-mailing a person whose e-mail was never even validated as real upon name creation, and it involves Biller ops directly after that. i think it would be better if we cut out the middle man here altogether. And many new clients being developed, seek to cut out the middle man in some cases, providing more transparency and autonomy. Now as for a cut off line, personally i think if you don't use it, you should lose it. This 'idea' is already present in the current biller system. Being a collector of names, many of my names have reset on their own. Either from lack of usage, or not logging into use them in time, or for not being in squads, which i was told counts towards holding a name indefinitely. And i basically agree with this. But all of this is fairly targeted at new names. So i would probably make the cut off at 2 years. If the person doesn't log into a name for 2 years. The name resets. Any name doesn't matter what it is. If people want a name they should use it. Otherwise you just create a situation were a guy can quit 10 years and be secure knowing his name will be there for a decade. Or you create the opposite situation where a guy who lost his name can't get it back even after 10 years. You might say well the guy who lost his name after 2 years because he quit, will come back, and want his name back. Um no, i won't expect my name back, because i'd have known that the name would reset if i didn't login for 2 years. i don't have anyone to blame but myself. Now people want their names back not because the name was stolen, but they lost the login information, and they know the name will be there for 20 years. If you attack both reasons by making it impossible to lose login info, and making it clear names have to be used to be kept, then all problems are erased. Guys like me won't exist, and won't have a justified reason to askfor names back. All someone can complain about is why do i need to login once every two years to keep my name. Which sounds like a retarded complaint when you read it. This idiot can't even login once every two years? If a squad doesn't have 5 people in it, it will be put into a squad reset queue, if after 6 months there still isn't 5 people in it. The squad name resets. Of course all 5 people could be you under other names you have. Currently in Ultima Online, we have houses, if we don't login once a month to refresh our homes, our home will decay, and fall to the ground, and we lose everything inside. 1. Prove ownership 2. Require that e-mails be validated 3. Make sure the biller e-mails you the name you created, as part of the validation process 4. Automate the name recovery further by requiring lost password questions. 5. If you don't use it you lose it. Even basing the don't use it you lose it, entirely on usage is good too. So someone with 5000 usage is guaranteed for 5 years (no logins) to have their name. Someone with 10,000 usage, their name is pretty much secure for life. 10,000 means 10 years no logins before name resets. And everyone should be able to login once every 10 years. So that timer resets upon every login. This way what usage does Tycho Celchu have? 500 usage probably? it would have been reset 5 months, to a year ago, and i'd have been able to get it back. This usage system provides more protection for old time community players, while still promoting a better biller system.
  6. Why would cheese check every wall? When every wall and every part of the wall had a collision problem last time. lol You couldn't sit next to a wall, it would just bounce you. Then there was those gaps in the wall, where you could fly inside walls after..
  7. Well this goes back to the name trading issue, which we discussed before somewhere here on these forums. About taking names, being stealing. Equivalent to saying if i download a song, as opposed to buying an album, it's theft, because it takes away from the profits some guy could have made. But either way if i had no money to buy the song, then i wouldn't have been a customer in the first place. So my downloading doesn't affect the market. Similar taking a name, doesn't really affect the market for names. For example the name i have issue with, is Tycho Celchu. No one around today wants that name, let alone can think of it. It's a starwars name based on a starwars character. It was in fact mine back in 1999-2000, and somehow after that reset in 1999 i lost the name, and never got it back. i either lost the password, or someone got the name, because you guys reset it despite it having 1000+ hours. Well if we are on the topic of reasonable, just read what you wrote, and consider how unreasonable it is. i mean 10 years is a loooooong time. It's a damn decade, a decade where someone didn't log in once. And you are keeping that name hostage? Don't tell me you have no way to tell if the person used the name at least once in ten years? Because if you don't, then already the biller needs to be replaced. And im tired of saying ?find, getting back a message more than 10 days ago. It should say last seen on October, 15, 2002. I'm sure the guy who has Tycho Celchu doesn't even login on any other names either, for at least 10 years. I'm sure i just lost the password, but as i was using 56k modem back then, and all my e-mails expired i can't prove it was mine. If its not used for 10 years, then it definitely should be open for grabs. Why is there even a debate on that? Why are you holding names hostage for 10 years. How in any way is that right? And what exactly is wrong with name collectors? If they don't have the motivation to log into their names every month, they eventually lose the name. As it wont have enough usage first off. So whats the problem? I am a name collector myself, 99% of my names no one wants. And i can barely collect maybe 20 names, because the more names i take on the more responsibilities i have in taking care of them and adding usage. If i collect 50 names, and don't log in for 10 years, they should all be reset. Name collectors is just an excuse, it's not really a problem. Now someone can collect common names like Avenger, and Fire, etc. But all these common names were taken from day one. There is no proof Tycho Celchu belongs to anyone currently in game, or even a real person, as i am sure the e-mail its registered under is Bogus and the name. If the person doesn't exist in the subspace community anymore, whats the problem? They might come back? After 10 years? If people knew they couldn't hold on to their names forever. How many would actually quit? Who would still be playing? or at least logging in to refresh their name. You guys gave the all clear, that people can have a name and quit for 10 years and still have the name. Resol i never said the biller is part of client development. i said the biller is part of the reason 5 new clients are being developed. i hope you can tell the difference between the two, and i won't need to explain further. Also keep in mind, there is a difference between part, and only. Now if the biller was the only reason people were fed up with continuum, people would forget making a new client, and just make a new biller. A new client will have a new biller system, a better one. People aren't just re-developing the game, they are re-doing everything, the whole idea behind subspace is flawed on many levels, from security, to development, to zone management, to the biller system. Half the fights in subspace are a result of lack of development. Lack of dev is a result of so many failures, but to sum it up Pheonix client will have map elements, a particle editor, and scripting, which means anyone can code for a zone. C++ is no longer required, making the reliance on people who are AFK, never play, and post on forums obsolete. Hopefully all the clients take these issues further, to eliminate the need for bans, by adding more in game options to deal with people, and by improving security and having a way better biller system. Other problems with the biller, is if no one likes name collectors, the biller does nothing to prevent it currently. The client and biller could be designed to give each player 2 accounts maximum, based on their ip address/mac id, other information, and require valid e-mail confirmation from the player each account requiring separate e-mail. From there each account can have like 5 names maximum. As well as ?find ?message being almost useless currently. Also i don't know of any game that keeps names for 10 years of not logging in. Not even steam does that. E-mails like yahoo delete themselves if you don't login for 3-6 months. (or used too) DDO still has my account after 1 year, but i didn't try 10 years yet.
  8. System isn't that good as i never got my name back, even though the name wasn't used for 10 years. Because back then i used dial up, lived elsewhere, etc, and always put in fake e-mails/names, because you don't really need to know my name or e-mail. But the way i see it, if no one used the name 10 years, it should be freed. The lame billing system is part of the reason there are 5 clients in development to replace continuum. It's a joke.
  9. yar.. curious what cheese said, can pm me (i always copy and save most of my posts, in case of deletion) Yeah i agree mines should be customizable in size, shape, graphics, etc, just i prefer small mines.. i like space to be more realistic than anything else, so the smaller the mine the better really, considering how big the ships are.. Small mines with huge explosions are cool.. personally i'd make them do a ton of damage too. like if a warbird had 800 enegery, a mine would do 400. It would also be cool if you could make 1 mine set off another. Chain reaction mines, another mine is in proximity of first mines explosion, this way you can have a combination of damage. Then you would need damage for all that. So if you directly run into first mine, if total damage is 400, you take all 400, second mine being set off because it was in range of first mines explosion, so you take 200 damage, third mine being set off because it was in range of of second mine explosion, you take 100 damage etc. or i dunno.. A zone with rockets will be awesome, and ammo limits on the rockets, im tired of energy type bombs. staggered pair rockets? so you press tab, 1 rocket leaves first, second rocket shortly after, in the direction you are aiming.
  10. Thank god for the negative energy bug being gone. Lol sometimes?! show negative energy? Was all the time for me,.. i got you to -586... -300 sometimes, and -170 the most.. i was trying to get you to -999 to see if it would start the 1000's.. Can you make mines half the size of continuum mines? Pleeeeease.. And possibly keep the same prox range, or make it slightly smaller. Trust me small mines will be cool... I never liked those huge ass mines.. pretty blockly, unrealistic.. Can't wait to see the menu system, and the new features.
  11. Well my view is actually middle ground, between constipated or rigid, and customization. If you support a ship having 50 weapons at the same time. Which isn't even what continuum has at present, then you are taking an extreme position. (Anti-Structure, anti-rigidity) Another position is no customization at all, this is another extreme position (Anti-customization) None of us here agree with that position. All i am asking for is for people to consider making Pheonix-ss Middle ground. Your only defense for an extreme position of customization on everything, is let a zone do what they want. (So in support of full freedoms) This is admirable, and would be ideal, but also unrealistic, there are negative aspects to freedom, and i believe there are more positives to being middle ground than to being full on customization. Now negative aspects of freedom, consider a jean store. You go in and they sell only 3 pairs of jeans. You try them all, buy the one that fits best, but still lacks something, like color, or it's just slightly too long, or too short. But of course knowing there were only 3 jeans. You will be content, not happy, but content in the fact that you chose the best one, and hopefully you can wear it in. If you now go to a store that has 1000 pairs of jeans. You will try out 3, buy the best one, and realize it's not good enough. Now what happens is, you are never satisfied. You realize you could have made a better choice because there was hundreds of more jeans and you didn't try them all on. You missed out on your perfect jean! But this is just one little example, because i don't want to write a book (haha). There are many more problems i could go over with a game that has no limits. There are benifits on a developers end, but not on a players end, and the benifits are very little. For example, if you studied for an exam for 8 hours, lets assume you are smart, and learned everything. Studying one more hour has little benifits, and begins to bring in draw backs. Like you might infringe on sleeping time, you might need to eat, your brain needs a break. So a full 9 hours is equivalant to full freedom in a game. Whereas 8 hours is almost full freedom. You get many benifits from 8 hours, 9 hours adds little, and brings in many drawbacks once you reach full freedom. My point is here freedom is not this amazing glorious thing the american society likes to advertise, real freedom is damn scary. This is not to say competition isn't bad but don't mistake competition with freedom. There will be plenty of rival zones, rival ideas, in fact so much can be done with the phoenix client that doesn't have 50 weapons on each ship, that it would take 20 years to run out of ideas, before you need to edit the code to add more 'freedom.' Real freedom is dangerous. Consider continuum; despite not being as capable and free as i would like, there is still plenty of customization in Continuum. This is almost a perfect example of middle ground. Now of course we all want continuum client to be capable of doing MORE!, Definitely. But the question to ask, is HOW much more? Is there a boundary that we shouldn't pass? When is it too much? Pheonix client will be even more free than continuum, however if you take an extreme customization position, then it appears it will be more free than i'd personally like.. Rigidity is not a bad thing is my whole point, it adds to identity and gives a scaffold to the game. If your whole basis is that the game can be anything, then it's pretty much open source already.. and i don't really want a game to be anything.. None of the online space mmporgs do that, they have limits to the amount of weapons you can carry etc. Zones like DSB, trench, EG, Choas, most likely won't adopt the 50 guns at one time scenario. So why do they even need that option? So some guy who makes a new zone can feel free to go ape retarded? Would anyone really play in a zone that has a ship which has 50 different guns? Again there is a clear distinction between having 50 weapons, or only 3 weapons at a time. With 3 weapons at a time you would still be able to exchange your weapons out from a list of 50 weapons. And you would get the new graphic and effects for the new weapon. That's essentially all the customization a player needs. It seems you want to give full customization to the developer though. (Which is an important distinction i almost missed entirely.) Nothing wrong with the concept of HS, HS doesn't even have 50 different weapons at one time. HS is actually a perfect example of a rigid structure that is fully customizable. Again my points are a bit philisophical, and of course you guys can do whatever you think is best, im not dictating anything, i just hope to get people to think about it. Also, If you don't agree with customization on everything, (an extreme) and view your stance as middle ground also. Then i would have to ask.. if not everything, then what specifically should be customizable, and what not? Doesn't all ships, colors, menus, chats, tiles, graphics, mean everything? Is there something you will not customize that makes your position middle ground? Obviously i want menus customized also. But i don't want to go so far as to make them MOVEABLE. Just resizable, transparent options, minimizable, or hideable. Moveable is not needed. Again its middle ground. Extreme on menus would be to do all of the above. With ships, 50 different weapons being bought/sold so a zone like HS can thrive is good, but i don't think it should be possible for any zone to have more than 3 weapons at a time on their ships. This is still middle ground. If you change the basic structure/mechanics of how continuum works, it's no longer an update to continuum. But a whole new game basically.
  12. Really if you look at your first screenshot in this post. You already display TEXT on the top left of the screen. Telling players to push f1, or f2 for certain things. Much better is to just replace this with a in game Bar that has F1, F2 etc there like my pictures. If the bar is in the way it can be made transparent, or mimized so it only sticks out from the side of the screen. Likewise, it's not necessary to click the BAR to open the F2 menu, One can simply press f2, or f3. (OBVIOUSLY BAR would open up to a menu =p) In this way there really is NO need for customization, other than what is already given. Why move the bar? why close it when it can be minimized? Whats to gain from a player saying, OH this is cool i can move this bar. That's not the customization people look for in a game. You already know i support a customizable game, by having the particle editor, which in a way i brought up by suggesting all sorts of weapons/graphics, you made the idea functional by incorporating a particle editor. If you allowed ships to have 50 different weapons at the same time though, the game would be damn ridiculous. Better is to have some rigidity where all ships no matter what can have only 3 weapons at a time. (much like subspace). You can NOT have 5 different guns, 3 different bombs, and 5 different mines, on a ship all at the same time. There are only 3 weapon slots, mines, bullets, guns. With only 3 weapons at a time, how can the game be customizable? Well because weapons can be bought, or exchanged out. This allows customization while holding to something firm. If you will make every aspect of the game customizable, then your game will have zero identity. There will be nothing that makes it Phoenix-SS. You need some structure, scaffold, that can not be changed no matter what. Customization is epically important, but it only matters if the right things are customizable. For instance, banners, the chat system, coloring our own ship hulls, or adding symbols to them, etc. These are positive customizations. Moving the MINI map, shrinking it, closing it, making it transparent. Very much needed. Moving the health bar? Not needed. Making it transparent? Probably annoying. Allowing players to display health in a percentage under their ship. A cool new feature. Having only the health under your ship displayed, and being able to HIDE the health bar on top of screen. Doable. Resizing the health bar? MAYBE if we have good eyes and can do with a smaller health bar. MOVING the health bar? NOT NEEDED. <-- WRONG type of customization. I just don't see where someone would move their health bar? Bottom of the screen, in the way of the chat? in the way of the mini map? Somewhere in middle of screen? Off to the side when the health bar can't even rotate to be displayed vertically? And even if it could, guess whats on the side. The other vertical bar showing what weapons/items your ship currently has. It's just utterly pointless. Again im in favor of many other customizations, like bombs having ammo limits if the zone wants that weapon to have an ammo limit, rockets can have a reload time, Some rockets can be shot off in pairs or 1 at a time. For energy weapons, overheating features. For the map editor itself, the fact that anyone's work can be uploaded to a library if they choose to be connected to the library. So many news tiles, graphics, maps, would be uploaded there, and automatically downloaded when people open the map editor next time. Lots of nice ways to customize the game, but i don't really see the point, to moving the chat across the screen, and having anything move really. The only thing that should be movable is the mini map. Everything else can be re-sizable, hidable (as in removable) or minimized, or transparent. But MOVABLE? no reason.
  13. Well if you want we can use logmein, to give me access to your PC, and i can fix up any problems i find, its pretty safe, i can only login if you give me the password, and a NEW password is generated each time you use the program. So i can't use old passwords. Plus you need to be connected to their server and have the program running. Plus you are always guaranteed safety as you can see exactly what i am doing, and you can shut off the PC, to disconnect me, or likewise just close the program. Also what is the name of your firewall and and your anti virus? Do other online games work? Are you using a router? Which one? Where did you install the game? C drive?
  14. Hmm well it all sounds similar to what im suggesting, or pretty much all customizable, but i gotta check it out when it's done to see it in action, and then hopefully its has utility/functionality with ascetics, and efficiency, and customizable etc. i really don't see why a player should decide where their Health bar is, its obviously best on top of screen, and also what we are used to for past 10 years. At most you can add the option to display health in number under their ship in parallel with the bar on top of the screen, or to disable/remove bar on top of screen and keep health under the ship. But bar position should be fixed in my opinion. As for mini map, makes sense to want to move that, Shrink it, or close/minimize it for late use. It can also have 3 icons it, - for minimize, x for close, o for re-size window I'm still unclear how you would display the Player List. We seem to agree on chat tabs, and a zone wide chat tab. You still didn't clarify if there with be Zone stat menus (so after a practice, duel, to give stats of each player, ie zone owner would input formula, and stats they want to display in window) Where will this window be displayed whenever it pops up? People will want to see it, but they won't want to close it every-time, makes sense for it to appear in a tab, then they can select to view the stats. Same with a buy/sell list for zone items, If a zone like Hyperspace takes on Pheonix client, where will they display their buy menus? Will you just expect people to memorize a command? ?Buy menu open or ?Buy, or do you want to display buy in sometype of bar, so people can click it to open it. (And i think buy is better displayed outside of any other big menu, as it will be easier to find, if it says BUY right there on screen). Plus the buy menu will likely be the only menu with graphics, to show off each weapon/item, so its probably better off separate. http://img547.imageshack.us/img547/4923/minimap.png That was one way to display button on mini map, but there are various other ways, the bottom pic is the four corner method i came up with.. http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/2107/anothermapdesign.png
  15. http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/6536/coolgamechat.png This is exactly what i was talking about earlier. With Bar system. Left side F1 THROUGH F4, right side can have, additional windows, when you minimize them, they tab up in the right side. Positives with this, is that F1, F2, F3, F4 Listed, so knew players will know what to press. Second positives, windows not all over the place or in the way. Third positive, chat system has its own tabs at bottom, and chat system is fully integrated into game (NO background at all!) Which is way better than having a background trust me! =p p.S i just did this in 5 minutes to get my point across, and Bottom right could be the mini map. AND if you minimize mini map guess where it gets tabbed? Top Right Bar. Note: Distinction between general chat, and zone, general chat = ALL OF SUBSPACE! every zone! Second Note: Top left and right bar can be transparent, or minimized also so they just HANG out of side of screen like follows. http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/9380/minimize.png http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/4144/expandh.png
  16. For example one way to do a tabbed thing, is to have, it like DDO, they have General, Trade, Advice (Player Help) Tabs in their chat. Though it would be nice to even have a Phoenix-SS bar, maybe at the top of the screen, where game windows are tabbed like in an Operating System.. So basically, health/energy show in middle, (in a bar of there own) then off to left Side, (Where normally Start would be on windows PC) it will instead have F1, F2, F3, F4. And then on the right side, it could have Tabbed Game Windows. Game Stats, Buy Menu, any other game windows. http://images.mmorpg.com/images/galleries/full/312009/0db9fd1a-f103-4f8f-b72c-604d34b2eac4.jpg
  17. Yep the ship under-light is perfect for when zones, or events will decide to have 'factions', but i don't really think its that useful for most leagues or pub. (personally) but still a great feature. Also for the bullet under-light, can you decrease radius by half, and dim it slightly? That would probably make it perfect (as in realistic of laser fire glow in space) Not that i shot a laser in space before, but meh.. All window backgrounds? Can you make it so we can also just specifically hide the Chat window background? Will there be a tab system for windows not in use? If i have many windows open, can they be tabbed somewhere and not shown, unless i select them? What opens the player list? Isn't it better to keep player list on F2, to give it the familiarity of continuum? Will player list be a fixed window off to the left/right of game screen like Infantry? I prefer the continuum system of a window that pops up upon pressing F2, and is scalable in size. i think F3 or F4 should be settings window.. Any ideas on if you will have a prezone lobby? A chat lobby before players enter any zones? And how it will be implemented? Of course if you do this, have to make it so the players in that lobby can still be talked to, through maybe a universal Lobby tab in the chat system. This way even inside a zone, you can talk to people in pre zone lobby. To this end no one would not enter a zone because they'd miss conversation, or not be able to talk to players in this pre-zone lobby. This would basically mean the pre zone lobby, would have every player both in a zone and not in zone, from every zone in it. Making the game much more connected/universal.
  18. What Operating System do you use?
  19. If it didn't work. Don't forget to re-enable all the Microsoft services, and start-up programs. Provided you did this, and did it accurately, upon restarting your PC your firewall/antivirus would have been disabled. If continuum still didn't connect, it pretty much rules out the firewall, and antivirus, and most other services and programs. So like cheese said, the question occurred to me also. Are you connected to the internet despite posting here?
  20. Post a Trace here. Did you try pressing PLAY, even if the zones are red? Mine can show red through out, but still connect if i press play. Firewall running? Which Anti virus do you use? Was continuum working before? Screenshot of your desktop please? Version of Windows? Re-install your anti-virus. Unfortunately the track record of Tech Help in this forum isn't that good. Not for a lack of people trying. But everyone's computer is different. (meaning half to majority of problems remain unsolved) The problem is you can see your computer, but don't know the problem. And we can figure out the problem, if only we could see your computer. This then leads to the person with the problem, never providing enough information, or the right information. And the person trying to help can't do much. As well there is always the case were the person asking for help, just never does what is asked, or pretends they did, etc. It's pretty shitty. To top it all off people will get upset if i try to bypass this problem, by logging on to another persons desktop. If you really want a problem fixed you would basically go to any lengths. Myself i couldn't care less who was on my desktop, because i can disconnect my external drive, and all my personal information is safe after. You can also try this. Best trans-warp/jump-drive/hyper-drive i've seen was in Everspace by turboslug22.
  22. They are asking for a 10,000$ pledge. Sure there is the 10$ option, but really? i don't even want to buy their game for 1$ or play it for free for 5 years, when i see them raking in 10k from rich people. What nut would spend 10k on a game. Further a game not even programed in alpha or beta yet. Like reserving a damn spot for 10k. That's just wrong. And further this is a crime if you know anything about sociology! and critical theory! This game is the epitome of capitalism and all that's wrong with the world.. As far as the game goes, it looks good. Though im sure i could make a better game (in theory) or (on paper) any day =p If it relates to EVE online, then its probably a horrible game, though. i'd have to watch more videos..
  23. That is a free shard. I don't play on OSI. It's Pre-T2A 1997-1998 Ultima Online. You need to download Razor to access all the freeshards. Currently there is IPY, and probably Second Age (T2A), and Hybrid with about 200-500 players each. The only good free shard that is PRE-T2A which is what i play, is called Origins. http://forums.uoorigins.com/ All access information can be found in their forums. Full house looting, PKS, great template system etc. though origins recently opened in August and barely has players. Maybe 10 people player base. But rebirth (another pret2a shard) for example started with 10, and grew to 300. When i did play OSI i played on chesapeake, back in 1999 during UO:R and then again in 2002 or something during Second Age. Since then i played on a PREt2a shard called Rebirth, and then Divinity, and now i play on Origins. As i like pre T2A the best.
  24. Maybe make it so there is a tab bar for all the windows. Like in a windows OS. When you select game it overlaps all the messaging windows. When you select a messaging window, it appears over the game. (transparent) And the way to tell you got a new message, is by making the tab flash when someone sends a message. Otherwise having so many windows is an intrusion even if they are transparent. And that's the point i was getting across by making it so when you are in windowed mode, the windows can be moved off to the side of the actual game screen. Beyond this, making a separate window for Public chat is faulty, and will ruin the immerse feel of the chat in game. Right now chat is connected to game-play, because it's in the game play screen. Moving it to a separate window will make chat feel like a separate entity and actually make the game less social. Equivalent, to games where the chat appears above your characters head, as opposed to in a separate box altogether. The way continuum has it set up is basically the same as text appearing above your head. Anything different will ruin this feeling greatly. For private chat it doesn't really matter, though I'd prefer the whole chat system stay the same as continuum. The only differences should be additional features, like adding a friend-list, a better e-mail system etc. or ignore button etc Changing the layout is the wrong way to go if you want phoenix-ss to resemble anything of subspace. Personally i still think the only optimal use for windows is so zones can display stats in them after games, (zones can add their own columns and row count, and edit titles, and add the formulas for calculating the stats they want.) And of course windows are good for any zone into buying items. So they can buy the item listed, select quantity with an up and down arrow, display price, and display the graphic of the item, and that actual graphic will be used for the weapon/item in game. Other then this, it's more advisable to leave the chat system within the game, and like continuum to be able to select ?lines=0 or ?lines=5, And maybe a ticker for displaying full chat history. The chat system could be edited to customize colors, font, but there is no need to remove the chat system to a separate window. It would be efficient if the transparent map can also recognize more map elements than just ships, or flags. IE it should be able to color code sectors if a zone wishes, or show other important objectives, or map elements. That is all! take my feedback or leave it, though as a developer looking for player feed back, here it is, despite me being the only player leaving feedback, i still think it's a fair and accurate opinion, that respects the strengths and original design of the original client. While still advocating for improvements, i don't think one needs to disregard old ideas etc. Like that old saying goes, add to the game, don't take away.
  25. Very nice if you will make windows moveable, you may want to add black space around screens, that way all windows can be moved into that space that is not used for displaying the game. Such is like Ultima Online.. shown in this screenshot. My paper doll, skills, chat log, backpack, spells, and health bar, are all displayed off to the side of the game screen. It's probably best to keep chat inside the game, like subspace/continuum. And the map being transparent can remain in the game also. Even the F2 list can follow with subspace/continuum. And one could make it so in windowed mode, if the resolution you select does not take up the whole screen, the rest of the screen would be occupied by this black space, rather than the desktop. And within this black space, one could put menus or display other information. AGAIN only in windowed mode, it's probably best in full-screen to have only the game. Infantry another similar game, has it's chat under the game window, and player list off to the right. I advise keeping the chat in the player window like Subspace/continuum. The chat perfect that way. http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/4690/lammam.png
