1. Well, i'll accept that Lynx, i take it at your word, though then i question what fair is. Bans may be fair, if a mod doesn't like certain things in the community, ie certain expressions, personalities, or trolls, or some type of behavior, then a mod will justify it as a fair ban. This guys deserves a time out etc. But to the person being banned it hardly seems fair to ban a person for who they are based on the aspect that one mod doesn't like them. (It would even be very hard to conclude that no one likes them, because there are tons of people on subspace, surely they are liked somewhere, by someone) So are you saying bans are fair because people who are jerks just deserve it? For me fair or unfair pertains to either the zone rules, or the netban rules. If it's not in the rules, then leave it be. Ignore works 90% of the time. So yes maybe lots of people "deserve" bans, but do the mods ban according to listed rules all the time? Most likely not, mods base it mostly on their own sense of right and wrong. So of course many of us including me will find sympathy with a mod, who is dealing with all sorts of things while volunteering their time, but then i question why do they volunteer if they 1. don't like the player demographic 2. don't have time to deal with people, or the diplomatic skills necessary? i would suggest either taking a time out, or just doing things from behind the scenes to these people. And to go further, i would suggest that you can argue all wrongdoings won't be listed in the zone rules etc. Or netban rules. But of course i agree, it would be unrealstic to list every possible wrong thing in the rules, then we would have something like a Law book of thousands of pages, with sections and sub-sections. So i bring up a very valid point now, i think it depends how close something connects to a listed rule. So for example i PM someone a lot, about some issue. The person may not like me, and ban me for harassment. But what was the connection between my action and harassment? Was it close enough? We don't have to make a specific rule for every situation, but we should judge based on how closely one's action pertain to the listed rules. In the case of harassment, did you tell me to stop? Did i evade and ignore by getting on another name? Was i spamming nonesense or was i formulating sentances and ideas? Even if you don't like me does that constitute enough of a basis to call this harassment because i am talking to someone who doesn't like me? And as well one has to consider, beyond connection, can it be handled in a better way besides a ban? And of course one could consider that one instance of viewing unfairs bans, doesn't necessarily speak for all of them or discount that others do not exist. Not to deny your credibility, i believe you are credible and honest wholeheartedly. Now i understand i do bring a bit of a bias into this being banned a few times myself. But if i haven't been objective or if you take fault with what im saying, then well your opinions are respected..
2. They are.. what is that on the terrier? They seem more hostile.. except for the terrier which would just make me laugh if it approached me. New goal! try to shoot a bullet inside the circle! Honestly jabjabjab, i think you should take more community advice, if you do your own thing it will be original but doesn't really represent community well.. Also what happens when your client is completed along with 1 or 2 others? Will it be decided which client to use? Will all be used splitting off the population? Will the best one win? Or will you and say Richard join together and choose 1 client to back only?
3. Well you never know, if some of these clients pull through, particularly the Phoenix client, then all of these prestige systems, automated resets, and everything else will be more than possible.. I'd say Hyperspace would benifit most of all from the new client. As the new client adds many features that help your type of zone. Maybe spidernl will just wait until the client is more viable for half the changes he wants to do.
4. The problem with the dispite ticket, is the person who banned you, handles the dispute tickets, or is buddy buddy with the community. You need a wild card like me to handle ban disputes. At least i would be objective. Some netbans are justified, for a day, wheras the guy in charge decides once its justified he can extend it to 1 year because his pride is butt hurt etc. But it's only my opinion, don't netban me for it.

Really if he bought a modem, you would be banning ip's forever, or have to resort to banning the whole country. Which would coincidentally get everyone else banned.. Either that or he could just get a laptop and use wireless connections across the city. LOL.. or mask ip's, i just don't see the point to bans, bans work against lazy people, if someone wants to unban they will =/
6. The map is cooler as a circle.. =/ The bullet glow is too glowy.. can you take off a few notches of illuminosity, and radius? Everything else looks good.
7. they never really followed that policy, Polix and others would make up stories, saying you can get netbanned for pm'ing people from another zone. Like Spidernl, i was pm'ing him once, and he said i will get netbanned. The problem is the Netban Policy specifically says 'cross zone spamming' is only netbannable if you are banned from a zone, and message the mod who banned you from another zone, after they have already ignored you on another name. Then this makes sense. Ignore doesn't work, they asked you to stop, you are banned, and you are spamming them. However what i was doing, was talking not spamming, to spidernl from another zone. i was never banned from hyperspace. He never told me to stop, he just said he would get me net-banned. And he could have ignored me, as i don't change names to evade ignores. So really i've been netbanned tons of times for breaking rules people make up.
8. I agree allowing people to reset themselves is going too far.. However i still think the idea of an individual, automated reset system is good. It's essentially the same as the current reset system, DIFFERENCE being, Instead of resetting everyone at the same time. They are reset at different times. With the added INCENTIVE, of bonuses to be carried over per reset. If someone plays a lot and resets five times, how does it give them a significant unfair advantage? Currently if i enter Hyperspace to play. Guess what? Everyone has an 'unfair' (fair) advantage over me, because im a new player. i see many people in Hyperspace at different levels of building their ship already. It's not that big of a deal. Now if you make the rewards that carry over to the next reset significant, then the advantage will be significant. But if you make it so after 10 resets a ship is only marginally better, and still killable by a noob. Then there won't be much advantage. The incentive however will be that small advantage, and the idea of customizaing your ship through the reset. For all we know one of the rewards could be, creating your own item to add to your ship which you keep forever. Such an item would have limitations, that spidernl sets in the creation menu, but you could name it and so on. So if such an item was a weapon, it could have only so much damage, and if you choose damage you lose some fire rate, if you choose more fire rate you lose some damage, and so on. But essentially you could scale it either way so everyones weapon would be different. Customization is Motivation. i also don't see how players would have no motivation anymore. The motivation is that you achieved some in game goals. Allow me to make up some fake goals here so we can see how it works. One goal can be that a player needs 50 million for the automate reset to begin taking place. Second goal, they need at least 2 high end items. Third goal, they need a certain amount of kills/deaths. And so on, you have to figure out what the criteria would be for the module to auto reset a player. They play, they achieve so much. They get reset, they likely won't even know what the criteria is to be reset. So it still acts like the current reset by being suprising. But now they get a choice between certain rewards. A high end item, more starting money per each reset, or a permanent bonus to stats. As a player, this would give me more incentive to play not less. Especially when we have to go through resets anyway. Might as well go through them this way.
9. Can we 'the players' get rid of window border, and blue color? I just want the chat on space, not inside a box. If only zones can do that, the customization ends up being pointless. i'm not having the interface that a zone decides i should have. As far the chat goes. If not please add the option to hide the chat border as well. Thank you.
10. Why not reset people individually, and automtically, after a set of inevitable goals has been achieved. Which means the player can't halt the goals to avoid their own reset. Of course you'd have to decide what those goals are based on the zone. And i think it would make it so people always have a set of goals to work towards. And you could even add incentives, after each individual reset, the player gets some type of 1 item reward that they can have through every reset. Or as a reward, they start with 10k more money next reset, or get a special item, or their ship can hold 1 extra item and so on. And then you'd have to find a way to automate it, so it doesn't involve staff having to find the people, see if they reached the goals, and resetting them. heh my ideas aren't so bad for someone who doesn't play? Plus i think because i dont play, i can be more objective, and i leave more of the idea up to you.
11. Lol yeah technically if you are resetting it's because the economy is already thrown off balance, no?
12. Why does a player need to have input on when a reset happens anyway? It sounds like insider trading.. which by the way is against the law. lol It's not as if they are saying there will never be a reset. There probably will be. Spider could have been planning a reset for next week for all you know.
13. eh cheese that was my troll defense.. "i just tell the truth" and people get mad.. im not a troll.. etc truth is in the eye of beholder.. much like beauty.. then there is that quote.. "Beauty is truth, truth beauty," - Keats @Dr Brain, that makes sense for real, (no sarcasm)
14. You guys are owners of a zone, you have final say there. You are not owners of people. Unless you agree with slavery? Let people have some freedom to express themselves, especially when you have quotes, like "freedom is the right to be wrong" in your own signature. That would include trolls like cheese, or emo tripping carebears like acid.
15. Lol apple is an idiot in every aspect, im glad steve jobs died. i don't even get why all the news and americans worshipped the ass hat. All the App store did was make phone jacking possible, you can just bypass apple, and download anything you want on your phone. IF i did ever have a phone, it would never be one from apple. Lol good one, we need people tell us which programs are approved now.. what is this back to communism? That song isn't approved, you can't listen to it. Or are we back to 1920's America, where the rich looked down on everyone else, because they weren't approved.. this is dumb. How come Linux isn't known for viruses? i guess because no one develops viruses for it even? People get viruses because they are morons. It has nothing to do with program development. You can still make programs, but essentially they head towards what they want, slowly, so people are less outraged with this, and then later on they will go all the way and ban any programs not approved. That's what hitler did too. He started persecuting the Jews slowly. It started with ID cards, not gas chambers.
16. Hey Linux is better, finally i can get rid of Microsoft, hope they go through with their plans.
17. and cheese is a griefer?
18. lovers and other strangers
19. Beh im not qualified to keep it updated, because i don't play much of any zone anymore, but anyone who could post once a week, about different zone events, would be the best bet.
20. Is everyone who posted here a member of the steam group? if not you guys should join, it's largely anonymous, unless your steam name is the same as your ss nick or forum name.
21. A few people i know would have played continuum if it could have been set up on Linux without them having to do extra work by running windows on Linux etc. Some others got a mac or switched to Linux because of school or work and had to retire from subspace. Though most people i know who use Linux are hackers, White hat hackers, but.. meh i know a few black hats too, they would pretty much take out continuum if they weren't too lazy to install it. (Fortunately continnum isn't important enough) Basically if you open up Linux you are inviting some PC savvy intelligent people into your game, generally speaking. And yes there are people out there who can unban every 5 minutes, and make a mockery of continuums security, and mods powers. Probably the encryption too.
22. Does steam require source code for every game they advertise or sell, or that uses their services? Why would they need or want that? Doesn't that belong to the company/persons who made the game? Not argueing, just curious. EDIT Ahh i see, so basically priitk would have to set us up on steam, for steam to approve anything, i guess there is no real reason why he wouldn't, but i guess he doesn't care to or is too busy?
23. Phoenix-ss Will be able to do everything continuum can as im sure Richard will eventually get around to posting, however you will need to port over your tileset, or configure it to match the editor or tile size in the new map editor. Please keep in mind i have just talked with Richard often, and installed and played Pheonix-ss a bunch of times, so while im sure im fairly accurate, Richard might keep you better informed on what Pheonix-ss will offer. Map Elements and Particle Editor However to continue, there will be a particle editor, so things like bomb explosions, engines trails etc. As well as a map editor, that will have map elements, These elements will include boosters (fly over it, and you get boosted) like those mario kart games, etc. Good if you are building race tracks. Other map elements will include one way force fields/walls, when placed you can fly through them in one direction yet going the other direction they are solid. Good for compartmentalized play, and certain ideas/themes/events. Anyway that's a general idea of what map elements are. Basically meaning you will need to know less and less coding, as you can basically do anything just using the map editor itself. The Map Editor The map editor itself will feature, an online library. If you agree to share your work, tiles, graphics, they will be downloaded to such a library. Whenever someone opens the Map editor, it will auto-update and add new elements. This way through a competitive nature, the Map editor library will eventually store thousands of walls and tiles, so that development will be endless, seemless, and unique. As there will likely be only 20 or 30 zones, and thousands of graphics to choose from. Beyond this keep in mind, Richard told me, the Map editor will have some sort of scripting, so one only has to script to get things done. Scripting will be real time. So you can edit the script, click play within the map editor, and see what changes you made and how they affect the script. This makes debugging much easier, as well as learning, and development will no longer be a problem. The complaining by people who love a zone, and yet can't code in c++ will virtually be none existent. No longer will people need to rely on other programmers who are AFK and don't have time for the game anymore. New Menu System Pheonix-ss to this end, will have special Menus, which will be scalable, moveable and closable. Such will be the nature of the mini map for example. Beyond this when you have a practice or event, and display scores, no longer will scores have to be displayed in through the in game text spamming the chat screen. But rather such information will be displayed through menus, which can easily be edited, allowing for you to add your own titles, rows, columns, and math formulas for calculating wins and losses and so on. These stat menus will easily be closed or tabbed. The menus will also apply to buy and sell features. So a zone like Hyperspace can add pictures of the items on sale for each ship, show price, and scale quantity of how many items you are buying or selling. Chat features There will be new chat features, PM boxes, friends lists, block lists, and a Pheonix WIDE lobby, which every player can chat on and be logged into the minute they open the client. This will likely be tabbed in the chat as General. The chat will then feature the zones chat, named after whatever the zone is called. So Extreme Games Tab, for the zone chat. From there there will be a Help chat, where moderators across Pheonix-ss can help new players and answer their questions. In short Pheonix-ss can likely do everything. And im assured by Richard it will have enchanced security as well, making the need to ban people all the more obsolete, as there will be various other methods to deal with people in a zone. EG and all other zones will be easily portable. And yes of course, on Pheonix-SS you will be able to host and run your own zone. The number one attraction of continuum was development, and the ability to make your own zone. The same is true of the Pheonix client, except it gives a whole new dimension to continuum, by allowing for far more customization, and improving the nature of development itself. Steam As for Continuum on Steam, i believe the reason Polix gave for it not pulling through, is that we need a certain count on the steam page. http://steamcommunit...ntinuumsubspace Here it is, we currently have 393, and i think we needed 1000, or something to get continuum listed as a free game. At any rate tell everyone you know to join the community page. What's needed is not to make a new group, but get this group rebooted/revived and add more moderators to the community page which are more active, and can post something weekly at the very least. And of course bring the community count from 393, to 1000, if anyone can do this then it would be a nice way to help. Of course i would do it, but i doubt polix would grant me moderator status, and i am unsure of who to contact anyway.
