This has been suggested hundreds of times. Feel free to program it yourself, but don't expect us to do it for you. Creating a new game is a huge undertaking. Several have tried (and some are still going, see Jabjabjab's thread), but none are (yet) viable replacements.

Yes, it will be a subarena at first. The agreement I have with cerium is that if the players prefer it, then it will replace the main arena. If the players hate it, then it wont. Simple.

I agree, but unfortunately I'm not the guy making the decisions about items any more. Nice sig BTW. Made me laugh.

No.

Alright, here's a pretty big change to think about.

Those links are horribly outdated. https://bitbucket.org/drbrain/hscore/ https://bitbucket.org/drbrain/hs_util/ https://bitbucket.org/drbrain/hyperspace_modules/ https://bitbucket.org/grelminar/asss/ -
Change the port?

Make sure you load the directory module. I think it's commented out of modules.conf by default.

So every time they reset, they get better? That solves the problem, how? And resets aren't for newbies, they're for the vets. It keeps the game interesting. The item sets have been tending toward more balance and longer buildup times, so the resets haven't been as frequent. Personally, I think this has been fairly detrimental to the zone. -
Thought I'd chime in and mention that vox is latin for voice, not power.

You've got to admit though, that would be pretty awesome (for the guy shooting the bomb).

My Conquest idea (talked about in another thread somewhere) was motivated from a similar viewpoint. I wrote about 70% of a module, but real life has pulled me almost entirely out of SS. No one else has seemed especially interested in taking up the mantle of finishing it, so I imagine it's about as finished as it'll ever be.

I didn't tell him to attack you. I actually suggested that he stop attacking you and ignore you. At worst that makes me apathetic.
-
Just ignore cheese like the rest of us do.
-
That's because it needs to have a -f when it's not PMed to someone, for safety reasons. I don't want you degranting the entire arena's... ahem... item.

Chaos/Prem, EG, and Powerball shared arenas
Dr Brain replied to Maverick's topic in General Discussion
Yes, you claim the population number is meaningless, but if you don't inflate it you're going to put yourself at a disadvantage... so it it meaningless or not? -

I guess this is the part that annoys me the most. The sysops claim that the main population isn't important, but at the same time they're not willing to settle for bots-in-arenas because it'd mess up the arena population display. At best it's hypocrisy and at worst it's a lie. -
Back up. Don't know what crashed it.

Could be, I have him on ignore so I don't see his posts. I apologize if that was the case. -

So EG can find a host for 50-60 bots, but they can't find a host for EG besides Priit? I call BS. Especially since they have very few players these days. There's still no excuse for PB, since they're already running ASSS. -

There are ways. Just no one has had a reason to look into them, since lying about population was a good thing for them. Perhaps this will give people a reason to look into alternative methods. -

I've added 1000 to the population of HS until CZ, DSB, EG, and PB stop this insanity. Don't worry, unlike their artificial pop, it doesn't show up in your nice stats, Mav. That's because you use the ASSS ping protocol on ASSS zones, so it was an easy hack to make it only affect Continuum. -
We're paying for those choices now, Polix. That centralized biller and replacement client is what's killing the game. If the biller had been less centralized, then things would be very different today. One of the stated goals of the SSCouncil was to prevent similar zones, removing all competition. Want to know why there were only a handful of zones to make it to SSC after about 2000? Look no further than the billing access rules. Same goes for the client (though I understand the legal motivation behind why things are the way they are), if it weren't so centralized things would be much better. Uh, work together = share hosting? I think if there were a decently designed biller (rather than the lets-pretend-there-are-no-bugs-and-hope-no-one-exploits-it insanity we've got) then HS would have had a lot more hosting options. While SSCE has worked out extremely well, it was a lack of any other option that forced us there. Cheese: what can we do now? There's only ever been one solution in my mind: attract more developers/zone owners. Unfortunately, a game with no client development isn't likely to appeal to the budding game developer. Without a replacement client (with new features that can create new gameplay), the game will die. Probably a lot sooner than your prediction.
