  1. See my post above. I clarified that it was "nice" in terms of convenience (at least relative to Boston's system), not in terms of comfort. As far as taking the car: see the section quoted from your own post below. This is why I've always preferred taking the subway when I've been in NYC.
  2. Would be great if you could update the links under Servers and Zones. GetContinuum.com has an up-to-date list of links for all SSC zones. Also, I think all three Server links are now defunct. Thanks in advance!
  3. I agree. Still, the situation in Iraq has probably contributed to high oil prices, which probably has had a major impact on at least some private en!@#$%^&*ies.
  4. Pointless thread.
  5. If that's true, that is some seriously out-of-date intelligence that was used. The Iran-Iraq war was in the ''s for crying out loud. Except that no correct proof was ever given in the current Iraq conflict. The 'proof' that was used was flimsy at best even at the time and, as it turned out later, actually dead wrong. I'm not arguing Saddam Hussein was a good leader; of course he wasn't. But while we're at it, let's invade China, Russia, and North Korea, and occupy large swathes of Africa, the Middle East, and South America for having leaders with bad human-rights records.
  6. I'm sure the current Iraq conflict has had a major impact on where we are today.
  7. I also had IRL friends who loved !@#$%^&*anic, and it also made a ton of money. Plus I do not see why !@#$%^&*anic and how many Oscars it may have won are relevant to a thread about Hillary Clinton.
  8. Good point. Thanks Aileron. Well, SeVeR claimed not to have known about it before.
  9. That, and a taxi provides private, nonstop service, whereas a bus or train will make many intermediate stops in between your starting point and your destination. You actually have to pay a bit of attention when riding a bus or train, to remember where to get off. A taxi will drive you right up to the door.
  10. May we upgrade this to an actual rule (not just a suggestion)? Would be even better if people are just required to include sources when making any claims that aren't already widely known as fact. For example, saying that President Clinton was the 42nd President of the United States wouldn't require a citation, but saying that Obama told Clinton "You're likeable enough, Hillary." would need a citation like so [1].
  11. Yes, he did. [1] I agree with BaK-. Further, look at the current Iraq conflict, which is the kind of thing which may happen when you don't ask for enough proof before going to war.
  12. What Trained said.
  13. The Bush Administration, not Congressional Democrats, was the one that initially wanted and pushed the war with Iraq. McCain was also a supporter of the war. I strongly doubt that Congressional Democrats pushed the US into the current Iraq conflict. I agree.
  14. The reason Iraq wasn't "taken care of" after the first Gulf War was because then-President Bush, a Republican, declared a cease-fire one hundred hours after the ground campaign started. The closest troops got to Baghdad was 150 miles away; the then-Bush Administration decided to allow Saddam Hussein to remain in power, rather than overthrow his government, which would have had many political and human costs !@#$%^&*ociated with it. We never should have gone into Iraq this time around, especially as it was later shown that the intelligence that was used to justify this invasion was inaccurate. Carter's foreign policy model certainly worked better than that of the current Administration. At least it resulted in the Camp David Accords, among other things, and didn't result in most other nations in the world - many of which were former allies - turning away from us. The Carter Administration's intervention in Afghanistan and authorization of Operation Eagle Claw shows that it wasn't opposed to the use of force when necessary. The current President Bush could still have gone into Darfur and ignored Iraq. Simply put, this time around there was no real reason to invade Iraq. I'd say Iran or North Korea were higher priorities than Iraq was. President Clinton used force numerous times when necessary, so I'd hardly call him a "blind pacifist."
  15. What would the Democratic Party gain by doing the above as a deliberate power play?
  16. I meant 'nice' in terms of convenience. You can pretty much get within easy walking distance of anywhere in Manhattan by using the subway system. This is not so in Boston. And yeah, attempting to drive around the city is not fun. I know, when I've been in NYC I always hated the loud screeching noises when I took the subway (which I did often for convenience). I didn't really have a problem with shock absorption or lack thereof, but the noise was !@#$%^&*. In Boston the trains are air-conditioned, but the stations aren't, which is usually alright as there are few days when it is so hot that shade doesn't help (in the case of above-ground stations). (The underground stations are usually fine even in summer.) The noise is a lot better than the NYC subway system, but I'd rather have the noise in exchange for added convenience - the Boston subway system is limited as !@#$%^&*.
  17. I'm with BaK- on this one. Carter hardly sums up the Democratic Party. Nixon hardly sums up the Republican Party.
  18. ^^ That, and I prefer to keep my online (Continuum) dealings restricted to the online world.
  19. In NYC the subway system is actually quite nice. Unlike Boston, where the T is rather limited at best.
  20. Yeah I did a ?find, and the rest seem like they're a bit on the inactive side. He's also one of the two Billing Operators, along with Mackieman, and only Billing Operators would be able to help you anyway (well, Billing Admins would be able to help also, but they shouldn't be bothered with this kind of stuff usually). Council members who aren't Billing Ops wouldn't be able to help you anyway, as far as I know.
  21. This is just me but I think this would go better in the SSDownloads.com board.
  22. Restrictions would be nice. Currently SSC only allows staff chats to be restricted, but one may wish to secure non-staff chats. Having a feature to allow this would be immensely helpful.
  23. BlueGoku would probably be the one you'd want to contact for this.
  24. Similar but not identical. get-continuum.com was bought right before Wonderer gave us FTP to getcontinuum.com.
