  1. Well, I would say suggestion 1 is out right away... what if I invite a frield over to play? He can't use his own alias then, if only my account is tied to my IP. And what if I am required to stick some silly behind my name for event hosting? And what if I want to host some bots from my own computer? And schools/campuses behind NAT would have many players with the same IP. And if I use my account from a friend's computer... the IP is different. Suggestion 2 is sort of pointless. People could still have multiple master accounts (restricting to one is impossible, for example because of the reasons for why suggestion 1 was not good) and this would just add a layer of ambiguity to the user identification system. MR features? What the payabomghunt is MR?
  2. Reminds me of a quote from qdb... but everyone knows all the quotes from the quotes database, so I'm not going to quote the quote here. On the topic though, I see nothing wrong with the diagram. On the whole, I would never design a client for this game. The protocol is annoying and the servers... well some claim ASSS is good but I do not take ASSS seriously - it's just... that way. The servers suck (and so do the clients, which creates a sort of an inescapable loop of suckiness). The only way I see out is to make a new client, server, protocol, everything. That's what I am doing, actually. I got into a "redesign Subspace" mood recently...
  3. A firewall or a router will stop any connections to the game when it does want to stop you, it will never cause packetloss unless it's really scrwed up. Do a trace with at least 50 cycles to a zone that has problems and then export&paste it here.
  4. Proxies are generally a bad bad thing and should be forgotten. If you have a firewall then you'll have to disable it or allow Continuum through. Since every firewall is different, you'll have to either use the firewall's manual or describe it in many details here. Of course, if the firewall/connection/computer/whatever is a school/work one, should you really be playing there in the first place?
  5. Works for me. Go fish ssdownloads.com for Continuum's real installer manually then.
  6. The problem is that the lengths are supposed to be in bits but your writing code has them in bytes. Either do some bit-shifting or stick em in a bit-ized struct. By the way, did you notice that your { accidentally got on the first line instaed of the second one?

    Game

You mean a server? www.shanky.com/server But I suggest that you don't make one.
  8. Your monitor does not support the resolution (or frequency - perhaps try a lower one) that you are trying to use.
  9. Your monitor does not support the resolution (or frequency - perhaps try a lower one) that you are trying to use.
  10. The reason for all this seems to be that the server tries name completion before actually trying to find the exact name. Basically, ?find name is broken and ?find=name and ?find :name are really different commands (this can't really be helped, but ?find name could be fixed).
  11. Well, if you can't prove that it is yours then you can't get it back.
  12. Know that Continuum will convert the adapted palette and any other palette into its own when in 8-bit mode, so you will not get the exact colours. If your palette has 50 shades of blue, Continuum will still use the 5-6 it has as default. This is all for 8-bit mode only. Also, you can just use a 16/24/32 bit tileset if you want more colours. This can be done with some tools that are probably on SSDL. However, it won't let you edit the map in SSME anymore.
  13. Try this: http://www.ssdownloads.com/index.php?act=file&fid=5
  14. Yes, a map editor I know VB, yea. There's also VB.Net, which is... new. The language has not changed much, but is fully OO and the standard classes are all new (and way way better than any other programming library I've seen ). All .Net languages can fully interoperate too, so if you use VB.Net, there's hope C is bad and dirty, I use C#. C# is god Have a look at some samples on the net, laybe you'll like it DirectDraw is neat. I haven't bothered to try to figure it out and so I use the super-slow GDI+. I'll fix that later : My main problem that is taking all my time (I have rewritten this 20 times! Without any exaggeration at all ) is neat design - I want my program to be neat in all aspects (a big point being separation of data and business logic, as it is said in marketspeak ). Right now, I have almost got some windows up but my thoughts are halted on how to make the windowing system be neat and not use any globals (which is -*BAD WORD*- annoying but a must for neatness)
  15. Continuum just about never accesses the disk, so nope.
  16. Mine doesn't do much yet. It's currently quite behind yours, which is starting to look real nice Too bad you use VB6 and not .Net. We could have joined forces to make an uber-editor As you saw from my screenshots, the files are DLLs. Because of that, it'll be easy for bots/servers/whatever to modify levels on the fly. That's a major goal for me.

    HELP

You could tell them what happened... As I think somebody already said, all parental controls must be off if you are using AOL to play.
  18. I liked 3DSM. Although it can freak out on you...

    Syntax

Maybe get rid of the "+"?
  20. There are two things to consider here: 1) There probably will not be a new release of Continuum before 2010 (seriously). 2) There already are microphone apps available. The course of action is simple. Of course, the already existing solutions are quite crappy in my opinion... perhaps someone could make a Continuum Quick Start installer that would set up a voice chat program automatically?

    Flag Music

Well, my 95MB symphony did not work. But there were some format restrictions too if I remember correctly (unknown restrictions - some play, some don't).
  22. Yup. Blue
  23. Neat thingy Here's a screenshot of mine
  24. Gamepad... I have one... I tried playing Continuum with it... I put it in my drawer and didn't take it out after that. Heheh, I find it impossible to play with one, but you might not. Anyways, there's no big trick to using one with Continuum. However, make sure to leave movement keys empty because Continuum will automatically assign them (I had some weird problems with this). I didn't remember any oddities about !@#$%^&*igning buttons though. What exactly is happening when you try to assign them? By the way, ZNZ, you are not serious about keyboard needing more movement, are you? With my key config, I never need to move my fingers, except when between forward and backward thrusting and for a few rarely used items. However, on a gamepad, I also need to move between left, right and a lot of the action buttons too (since most on my fingertips are positioned below the gamepad, I have to use the thumb for most of the stuff).

    Meeting?!

We could do a SS meeting in Estonia. And burst into Priit's house with many sharp objects I mean what am I talking about? Nothing, nothing, yes nothing. Ahem. Or am I?
