  1. If the server says "client connection request from billing server ignored", set the IP under [billing] to "localhost" in server.ini
  2. Well, 2D or 3D? 2D is easier in some aspects. Here's how I'd do it: The orb would be 3D-rendered. A plain sphere, some bump mapping and a volumetric cloud-ish texture would probably work well. Any actual lightning coming out of it would be added with photoshop. The best way to do photoshop lightning is this: First do normal clouds and then difference clouds a lot with black&white. Then (I think this was needed) invert the colours and edit the white levels so that only the brightest white is visible.
  3. Continuum only works on Windows.
  4. That is an exceptionally meaningless statement... Anyway, there's no real good way to identify players. Macid is a lot more than most other things have! Basically the only reliable way is the IP. Any other data can be freely modifier by the player. Good old Palladium would come in handy here.
  5. I think the issue is more that everyone has ideas and thoughts and even though many of them suck, that's all that people do. So this game has a serious lack of organizer and handiwork-types. I don't think I've ever seen a skilled organizer here (of course I have not really looked but I wouldn't even know where to look ).
  6. This is the biggest known problem currently in Continuum and no conclusive fix exists. The fixes in the following topics work for some and don't for some. See the FAQ post first: Why won't Continuum start? And also: http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?showtopic=6717 http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?showtopic=6937 http://www.ssforum.net/index.php?showtopic=6256
  7. Games like Quake 3 are not made by dumb people and thus are server-authoritative which prevents most cheating. Subspace, however, was never meant to be secure in that way...
  8. Try removing the router and using a direct connection. Sounds very much like a small 30-second drop of the connection. Probably the ISPs fault but it's !@#$%^&* hard to get them to understand these "mystery drops" - I've tried, I had the same kind of problem...
  9. I can't reproduce it either. Well, my Continuum crashes immediately if I use "Run as" You can try adding Continuum to the ignore list of all your security applications if you don't want to try removing them.
  10. If your cable is also used for TV, you will need a filter. Feedback from the TV could easily disrupt the internet signals on the cable.
  11. Go to the local office and demand a resolution to the problem in person? I know how annything ISPs are, I've been trying to get them to fix my lossy connection too for... !@#$%^&*, 6 months now.
  12. I think I remember I once had the same error. However, the only fix I could find was a format. Not too sure it was the samr though - it was a long time ago. Other than uninstalling stuff, I don't know what could be tried. Upgrade drivers maybe? Does not seem likely to work but who knows...
  13. Define crash. What happens?
  14. If you are using a cheap router, it could be because of that. But otherwise, seems like magic.
  15. This bot gave me a sense of deja vu. Then I got deja vu about getting deja vu about the bot.... spooky
  16. Try disabling your firewall too.
  17. The cutting apart of siamese twins is funky.
  18. Or use Photoshop to change the palette ^_^ Or just use RGB mode without any palette (and convert it to a palette when you save - SSME can only use paletted images)
  19. Sounds to me like your connection is "freezing up" for a few seconds and then resuming. Try to observe the lights on your cable modem, see if maybe it loses connection now and then.
  20. Proxies usually do not reduce the number of hops and I doubt there are any public proxies, so that would not help much. But if you get packetloss then you should indeed check with your ISP. Where is the packetloss in the graph? At the first hops? In the middle? Or in the end?
  21. Also, do a trace of at least 25 cycles and post the "export" file here.
  22. Try some other zones and subarenas. See if it happens elsewhere as well.
  23. Hmm, so it is just hearsay? Well that's a relief then. I was rather surprised at hearing it did not support larger zones - it might be ugly but it certainly seemed powerful enough. ASSS needs a marketing team
  24. But I will still think very badly of ASSS in the end
  25. Why won't it support big zones yet?
