  1. It ("the theory" as you call it) would be invalid even without predefined parameters. It would be OK only for pre-highschool level problems where nobody cares about issues like this. Why am I multiplied with NBV, Vile?
  2. However, you are absolutely wrong Adding/subtracting is perfectly fine. It is a basic rule of 3rd grade mathematics The issue here is this: This is valid only if a != b, which is not true. Therefore, it is invalid (division by zero). Another way to look at it would be to view the operation as a function - you will see that as (a - b ) approaches 0 (as they approach equality), the value of the function approaches infinity (which happens in case of divide by zero). The later part is basic calculus

    I like it.
  4. I think this issue has been resolved Topic closed.
  5. There is a topic in the general discussion forum about this (since people are noticing... or some other nondescriptive !@#$%^&*le).
  6. Idiot zone sysops not doing their jobs... Stickied (although I'm not sure if any relevant people visit this place). I assume the dir server list up top is correct?
  7. I like it, in general. Two problems: * Having two menus at the top is bad - just one should be enough. * The font in the menu bars looks ugly. I like Lucida Sans but many other could work, too. Sans-serif usually looks best. Verdana is popular but I do not like it. On closer inspection, the edges of the nuke sign look bad - it could use some blending. The "SSCB Devastation" text looks weird, too. The impression it gives is not that bad, but it looks ugly if you actually look at it. Beveled fonts are weird, usually, and rarely look good. Maybe... hmm. I would try something with very few effects, maybe some distortion filter and a bright, clean color. A fragmentation layer below it might look nice, too.
  8. It certainly is not possible to scan them for any data being sent out. If the server is coded stupidly (and it is, a lot of it) then it might be possible to steal the info by pretending to be the biller. This is quite a big hole, though, so I'm doubtful - even VIE coders could not have been this stupid Still, I have not tested anything.
  9. I agree with Dav. Well, I would probably be even more moderative, actually Sort of.
  10. I believe PoLiX they got no reply from Dock. Or something. For forkinson's sake, just call the guy or give me his phone number
  11. What does this have to do with politics? o_O Anyway, it is all over

  15. Re-opened. The policy issue is still important. Stop with that other nonsense. I would simply delete any trash talk posts in general. You cannot let some !@#$%^&*holes hijack topics so moving topics is out. Joining TT and General is a valid option and I might even prefer that. Splitting the crap is also fine but I wouldn't bother. This also gives the impression to spammers that they can spam as long as it is not very much - not enough to get a new topic made. Deletion of crap. That's what I'd do if I were a general moderator. Which I am not
  16. The million dollar answer is... maybe It does show that *something* is treating UDP packets differently from the normal ping/trace packets - those showed almost no loss in your testing. It could be the ISP or it could be something else on the path to the server. I once had this problem myself for several months because some network in another country was behaving badly - nothing to do with my ISP. But since the UDP test requires special software to be running on the server, it cannot be done for the servers on the path to TW - to determine which one is misbehaving. I think the best option would be to let the ISP know that UDP (game) packets are dropping but not ICMP (ping & trace) packets. Not much you can do about this on your own. If the problem is in the ISP's network then changing ISPs might work, of course, if that is an option for you. Or maybe you can get a hold of some competent technician who can figure out what is causing this. It most likely (but not 100% surely) is the ISP since you get this problem on all servers (which are located in different networks) and even to me (I am in Eastern Europe).
  17. It does sound like an ISP problem. An UDP connection test might help. I'll attach a tester I made. It will test the packetloss between your computer and mine. To use it, you will need the .Net Framework 2.0 which you can get from Windows Update (custom mode, optional upgrades). Simply unzip it and run the program. It has usage instructions in it. You'll just have to press a key and let it run for a while. Let it run for around 500 packets and see what the reults are. You can also try different settings and see if the packetloss changes with bigger/smaller packets or when you sent them faster. Post the results for all tests you do here (the statistics line - pressing D (display stats) or X (exit) will display the info). Make sure to do at least 500 packets per test - this makes sure the accuracy is good. UdpTester.zip
  18. This is about client development not about servers. A client is the things you start and you connect from. The server is where the safety's repels/bulets/bombs/portals/thors etc etc are in decleared. No, this topic is for all Continuum improvements, be it client, server, magical mushroom generator or map editor.
  19. What can I say... lololol
  20. It could be the ISP or it could be the network card or it could be a faulty cable or some interfering software or an ongoing download. The logs show nothing wrong, so maybe something is treating Continuum's UDP packets and the trace's ICMP packets differently. Possibly the ISP. Does Continuum work OK from the other computer on the same connection?
  21. SOS

    Err..

Try downloading the latest drivers. It could also be some other badly made program interfering. Maybe anti-virus, maybe some spyware, maybe some pre-installed crap that came with the computer.
  22. Redirect the output stream then! Oh wait, VB Pipe it to a file then!
