  1. it definitely needs to be fixed - it's not compe!@#$%^&*ive even with costly upgrades to ships that cost 1/2 as much after upgrades - constantly n00bed by warbirds and terriers

    Map Design

Very nice work Yavaris, it's thought out and a creative design. I like what you did with the benches and the main 'sanctuary-like' room. A couple requests if you can meld these into your design: 1. Can there be some 'secret-like' hallways between rooms? I mean, this would be difficult to do given that players can simply look at the overhead of the map, however, if i change the color.bm2 file i could eliminate the overhead view. 2. Scenario: if we play 'take out the general' (i'm sure there are lots of !@#$%^&*les for this game) can you setup the exterior walls so that the attacking force can enter in the castle and hunt for the general. Also, can you design an optimal defensive position (perhaps in the sanctuary) for a general to stay? Maybe two or three optional positions is better so that the general is not always in the same place when the attacking team ... attacks. Thanks a lot!

Rooms should be a mix of large, medium, small and even micro(size of the ship), but this largely depends on your map design and is up to the designer. Obstacles in rooms is ok, make it interesting. Generally think of a first person shooter - what obstacles would be there? Number of teams - 2 to 4 again depends on the design - optimally make 4 so it is flexible. Thanks!
  4. yah, the movie is old - the concept is too - unfortunately it speaks truth about the destruction of our earth - and yes, by those whom you call old - the 20th century industrialists. Can you say -- greenhouse effect and large holes in ozone?

  6. I've seen some of the crappiest zones (graphically speaking) get good pop - take HS for instance - that zone is an absolute graphical nightmare, but the gameplay is uniquely attractive (and a bit addictive) for attracting pop. Then you have zones like ones worm has built and that Red Planet zone - graphically better than the new WoW but remained deader than dead - download was too long or maybe the owner didn't have enough time to commit or whatever. There's no crystal ball to tell you if it'll work or not, but some simple suggestions: dont make it too graphical in attempt to use that to attract players over the gameplay, dont make the download long (everyone maxes out at 32bps limited by the ss client) and if you avoid that mess, be ready to put your time .... a lot of time albeit .... into keeping your pop and getting new players involved. Look at how Blazen built Fusion as an example.
  7. My take is this - if you have a lot of experience in the position which offers you commission, then do that, otherwise, stick with $11 - especially if money is tight. Usually commission deals dont end up like they say - if they say 12-15, figure at best you'll make 10. If you've been somewhere for two years, stay with it - people leave jobs and that opens up new opportunities. If you leave now, you'll be the newb at your next work place - and...making a solid minimum wage at that.

    Map Design

If you like making maps, I need one. Here's what I'm looking for: Use ONE tile - do not tile it special. Walls should be two or three tiles thick. The general design should be a map full of rooms. By rooms I mean open, clearly distinguishable rooms. Not bases, I am not looking for bases. The ships will be 2x2 tiles (standard size). Map can be any size - but medium small is probably best for now. The floor pattern should connect all rooms - think of a house, not a level consisting merely of maze like pathways. Please avoid: Do NOT use an existing map nor steal one from another zone. Do NOT tile it. Do NOT try to detail the map - in other words, just rooms with hallways, doors, entrances, etc - no specials, flags, safes are required. Yes, I have designed a few maps in my day but I'm looking for something different that could be expanded upon. If you like making your maps symetrical, that is ok, asymetrical is ok as well. The spawn points can be focused or scattered - you choose depending on your map layout. A hallway section might be optimal at 8-12 tiles wide, but again, up to the designer. Send your map to s!@#$%^&*@omega-fire.com. (Btw, it's NOT for Omega Fire since OF is pretty much dead.) Thanks in advance!
  9. Someone deleted a post that I created on this thread. I'm appauled that moderators feel that they can delete whatever they dont like despite the common sense of the threads. Your forum exists because players contribute to it - please uphold your own rules and return my post reply to this thread as it was.
  10. What advice could he (Priitk) give to younger programmers aspiring to become something great in the software engineering world?
  11. I dont play in the zone but I know that at one point 17th had a decent population. Can someone tell me (without belittling me or other players) what might have caused it to become so -- desolate?
  12. Nice magebase mage - 6.5 out of a possible 10. Need to tighten up some of the corners to stall attackers from simply avoiding defense measures. The bombline could be a bit thinner so that the attackers cannot setup at each step so easily going up the ladder. Generally the layout is good, length seems fine - maybe thicken the walls to two tiles rather than single tile. The devashiu11.lvl file was corrupted no matter how I tried to utilize it.
  13. Metal Gear and Hockey are both very very well organized/designed zones. Same goes for the other big zones. Maybe there is a trend?? (Never cared for Halo)
  14. Your article seems to make a lot of sense. Thanks for your thoughts 2D. Fusion can kiss my !@#$%^&*.
  15. L.C., you provide a link to a great article on how to create an awesome survival kit, however, it violates the rules since its not something that is purchased as a kit - rather, it's a bunch of stuff tucked into a kit. Letting it slide, are there four things you would take from that kit?
  16. Here's a wb I created from the anim vers. http://www.omega-fire.com/wb.png
  17. Excellent! You have carefully thought out four useful items which you have also employed throughout the year. During your scouting the area one afternoon, you did indeed spot roaming caribou and thus making it through a tough winter was not at hard as it could have been. You were able to bring a large male down using dufflebag sliced ribbons to tie your bowie knife to a long stick. This proved worthy for digging a makeshift winter refrigerator in which you stored the remains of the hunted animal. Shortly into the spring season you had an encounter with a bear. Fortunately, this was during the day and you used your wit and deep stress control to manipulate your way around the bear. That night, you spent time working to conceal any food remains lying around your camp area. This worked and bears were not seen afterward. Nearing the end of your year stay, you decided that you're an exceptional survivor and hence became a member of the survivor masters and will therefore be welcomed to evaluate the survivor skills (or lack thereof) of others who attempt my tricky game! You've survived Aileron!
  18. Good try. Given that you didn't read the rules, you climbed a tall tree to attempt to reach a cell tower, but since there was none available you became weary and fell out of the tree. You hit two branches and split open your bottom lip. You didn't bring any first aid so you've used your shirt to stop the bleeding. You could only bring four items so in addition to your useless cell phone, you have a total of 2 cokes and a twinky. You survived one day then at night you were eaten by a bear who smelled the blood on your shirt, ate you, your shirt, and your only twinky. You didn't survive 11__________.
  19. Yah ophie, maybe it's just time to hang it up for a while man. If you left the game with some decency, you can come back later - even five or ten years from now if you wanted to, and people would still be here (like me i bet, Oh God help me!) and you could have 2d fun, talk to people you knew, etc. I'm here because I like to design in it and I understand all the little things that can be done. On top of that, I couldn't do my design without having those people at the top who fund the servers and keep things together. Overall, no reason to dislike what you were a part of. People will always say mean things - like Ace's hit on OF, but hey, just forget that and be cool.
  20. Good reply, but try again. Four items in the duffle bag. A year supply of food would be too much for a single duffle bag and consists of much more than four items. Also, NO ACCESS TO ANY FORM of electronic communication was stated. Give evidence that a fully-functioning water-powered AC generator exists which can be hauled to the location in your duffle bag. But I'll humor you - since you brought so much food without a place to store it (as you haven't brought a single item by which you can dig a hole, or rope for suspending it in a tree), you've attracted bears, mountain lions and wild dogs who ate you and your food. You didn't survive rootbear75.
  21. Ok - so how do you answer this. You have a US Army grade green duffle bag. You will be permitted to take four objects with you. You will be dropped into a remote portion of northern Canada where you will be required to survive on your own for more than a year. Rules: 1. assume that you wear the appropriate clothing for the trip including boots, a water proof snow jacket, warm underwear, gloves, hats, scarves things of that nature. 2. You cannot assume that you can stuff anything into your clothing. If you want to take a poncho along, assume that it is NOT one of your four items. 3. An object can consist of something like a First Aid kit containing essentials for survival like bandaids, oiintments, water tablets, and things of that nature. You cannot stuff a bunch of objects together into a small pack and call it your 'survivor kit'. 4. You will not have access to any form of electronic communication. This means that your HAM radios, cell phones, and anything electronic that you think of to get you out of the rough WILL NOT WORK. Refillable energy sources (such as propane, clean water bottles, kerosene, etc). You can live near a fresh water river where water is abundant. 5. You cannot put a living (or dead) animal (or human) into your duffle bag. This is a journey for one. Replies: 1. Describe what you would take. 2. Describe where you would setup a camp. Disclosure: 1. More rules will be enforced as necessary governing the replies. 2. For enjoyment purposes - no compensation of any form is created by this fun activity. 3. Failure to read the rules does not cons!@#$%^&*ute that you've survived. It merely means you've lost.
  22. was anything accomplished here by the original author of this thread? there are lots of zones needing graphics help - HS for instance; Beefie's and TJ's new PB zone, the list is never short...
  23. I think I saw elvis
  24. I often question what the HS staff does. I mean, I see them banning people for swaring, or using that nick*nack buster controlism that Brain tries - but I dont think any of them are actually able to design anything? You guys need some design people.
