It might possibly be Planet X, something to do with superm!@#$%^&*ive black holes, an Earth-like planet, the apocalypse, a wormhole, aliens, or something else just as silly.

For the time I had it, McAfee was pretty good and I enjoyed it more than I did ZoneAlarm. But since I updated to Vista and McAfee expired, I encountered compatibility problems with free firewalls, so I haven't really run any firewalls since. Yeah, it's pretty bad, but I use Spybot as my backup, which also regulates registry changes. I basically do regular scans and don't need much else, although I might occasionally use Ad-Aware, Eusing Registry Cleaner, and AVG Anti-Rootkit Beta to double check. Oh, I've also used ESET before, and that program, other than making me feel better that it pretended to do something, simply sucked in comparison to Spybot.

^Nope I'm the one who added all the links, although I just ported them from Wikipedia. GetContinuum is evidently a web portal though, whether or not it's "official" won't change the world.

Rather than adding a new button or replacing the current one, just make it so that when you click it, it goes directly to a download page (or directly link the download, but that might just be evil) But anyhow Ace, look under "community resources", there's 3 download links there.

Everything works, just some of the buttons are way too sensitive, and like last time I think this should at least be fixed.
-
Ew, can we not copy whoever uploaded them to Wikipedia? Dynamic images make it unbearable to read the article itself.
-
Try completely disabling your firewalls (i.e. close all of them), then run Continuum to see if it works.

I completely support you Polix. When it comes to matters in real life, it's best not to feel like you're obligated to keep up with these things, and I remember being this the first thing I asked you before you appointed me TS mod. Anyhow, I wish best of luck to you, and to Sama, D1st0rt and Freakmonger.

If you still have your username you can try ?lostp!@#$%^&*word in-game under another account, and your password should be mailed to you (as long as you provided the proper information/e-mail when registering your username). Else,

If I'm comparable to hippos, then elephants if not Jupiter would be jealous of you. There's a difference between becoming diet-consciously obsessed and actually eating healthy food. For one, I rarely eat any junk food or much of what's labelled as unhealthy foods, so I honestly don't see why I need to start worrying about living longer. Food alone won't help you unless you keep yourself in shape. That's another huge difference between Asian society and Western obesity.

Yeah, Green tea leaves totally own over tea bags, that's for sure. Japanese are crazy, you'll see old folks out and about riding their bicycles all over. But unless I were to become fat, I don't plan myself to start becoming overly conscious of the food my body intakes.

Wow, I really didn't see this coming, but I wish the best of luck for you Polix, you've definitely helped out this community so much over the years and we couldn't appreciate it enough.

Trixter doesn't exactly fit in the picture. He evidently showed interest in buying the rights to SubSpace, but no one has ever been able to officially confirm this. One theory claims that he managed to buy off the rights to SubSpace, but ended up selling them to BDE. The other is that he never succesfully bought off the rights, which goes back to my version of the story (which is largely based on old threads found on SSForums, Server Help forums, this pdf, wikipedia, and a lot of google searching). Problem in the first quote is that Westwood studios was bought by Virgin Interactive in 1992, and was later acquired by Electronic Arts in 1998 (were SubSpace acquired by EA, the servers would have went down in August rather than December). In the second one, Harmless Games was never even associated with SubSpace, but rather that's where "members of the SubSpace development team banded together afterwards to form Harmless Games LLC" (creating Infantry et al.) In the third, it is contradicted by the following statement by JeffP himself : And now for an interview with BDE themselves: http://web.archive.org/web/20000929110715/...q.com/bde.shtml

Well, it's the same as it was from the beginning. Morally it's not right if you're using original SubSpace graphics/content, but as it's been said in the past, nothing will happen. BDE was more in it for the assets rather than the content, and SubSpace just happened to come along with the package. I don't see them getting all hyped up about people selling coffee mugs and suing them, when they have more pressing issues at hand (such as Kazaa getting sued). Just as long as you're not planning to start up your own company and specifically sell original VIE SubSpace artwork to the masses, and make a good amount of revenue off it, you'll be out of the clear.

To put it simply, SubSpace* should have been bought off by Electronic Arts in 1998, along with the rest of Virgin Interactive Entertainment's remaining US assets, but it wasn't; leading to the closure of all public servers on December 16th. VIE itself was later bought off by the French publisher Titus Software, which then became Avalon Interactive on July 1, 2003 (two years after Continuum). *At this point in time, VIE was struggling with the cracks being developped which bypassed SubSpace's copyright protection, they kept trying to release patches, but each time a new crack appeared, countering the CD-check. However, Avalon does not possess the rights to SubSpace. When VIE UK was contacted concerning the status of the copyright, it was told that Ozaq2 was managing the remaining VIE US assets. Ozaq2 is a company independant, but also owned by the same person as Digital Brilliant Entertainment (a company that also supports the peer-to-peer file sharing program, Kazaa). During all of that time though, the game remained supported by players and was advanced by PriitK who later encrypted the source into Continuum. Despite the acquisitions, no one has actively pursued the matter concerning the player-run Continuum and servers, which both infringed upon SubSpace's copyright. The SSCouncil had maintained communication with both VIE UK and BDE, whom I strongly doubt were oblivious to Continuum et al., and it sort of became an informal agreement to allow it. Nowadays, Continuum as a whole has diverged quite a bit from the original SubSpace. And although BDE can still claim ownership to a fair part of it, they can't to all of it. If you look at the mug for one, the graphics weren't made by VIE, so BDE can't do anything about it.

Difference is, society will take action against those who steal cars, which are an important part of daily life and not to mention expensive to replace. When it comes to duplicating a picture, society really doesn't care that much (face it, the price for an 11 year old SS picture < car) Don't blame me, I never said it was morally right, I just said that it has been done since VIE went down. If you want to become the RIAA and DMCA of SubSpace, then go ahead, that's your own choice. But if you want to criticize me, then maybe you should start with yourself. Continuum as a whole is basically stolen code from SubSpace, not to mention the server software still used. This website, along with all other general websites, zone websites, etc. are technically violating the same copyright as those who make a T-Shirt with a printed image on it. Sure, maybe not all of it is directly claiming profit or revenue, but that doesn't stop it from being a violation of the copyright laws that are bound to the original sources.
-
Although I believe Brilliant Digital Entertainment still holds the rights to most of SubSpace's artwork, I highly doubt that they would (or could) actively pursue the matter. From the looks of it as well, I wouldn't be surprised that anything related to SubSpace and its rights got lost and/or forgotten along the way. On a side note, marketing SubSpace/Continuum related items has been done many times in the past.

Thanks Sama, that list actually helps. Although I don't think I'll ever get Grand roulette to work (but at least I now know how to get unstuck from the tab zoom).
-
I've been having the same problem as Dagger171 (post here) with the casino. Basically, no matter what sum of money I manage to make, I lose it entirely because I'm unable to cash out. For example, I'm playing Grand Roulette (or even Keno) and can't press the "cashier" button because it does nothing. Or I play the Slingo U Pic 3 game (see here) and can't even start the game because the buttons do absolutely nothing (except the quit button, ironically). So I'm forced to restart my session and end up losing all my points because of this.
-
Heh, I was recently wondering how much they were wanting for subspacehq, but I figured it was out of my reach if no one had acquired it yet. I'd rather see it pointed to SSCentral rather than SSBase though (no offense, it's just an eye sore for a website).

Definitely congrats!

$3.63/gal is far cheaper than the gas price around here, so you shouldn't complain.
