  1. Visit http://beginners.subspace.net which has a wealth of beginner info.
  2. It's been previously determined that it is not the anti-virus's fault that continuum won't start. It is continuum's fault that it is detected as malicious. The proper solution is to fix continuum rather than try to get all of the world to recognize and support it. I'm glad it worked for you, you have had better success than most in dealing with the anti-virus company. Usually they will tell you to work with the tech support of the offending application (which is why everyone with this problem ends up here.)
  3. Try remapping the D-pad to the actual key presses. The basic reason why you get no response is that you aren't technically pressing up/down/left/right... the gamepad is saying 'diagonal' but continuum doesn't have a diagonal. If you remap the D-pad on the controller to actually DO the keypress emulation, it should work. Note: you may have to turn the gamepad off in continuum, but run the gamepad software in the background with all of the keys remapped to the continuum key definitions.
  4. you installed something that causes problems. unistall it. View the FAQ at the top of the tech support forum for detailed info about programs that may cause problems.
  5. If you are trying to run it as soon as windows boots and are successful, then you probably launched the game before any automated security software has started fully. Once you wait a bit longer, then the security apps have started and block continuum. Check your security apps if you want to find the culprit.
  6. I live on orlando and with brighthouse/time warner cable, i hopped from orlando to tampa (straight west to the coast) then to houston, TX... now, on bellsouth DSL, I go from Orlando to Miami (straight south and a little east, about 250 miles). My ping is up by 10-20 ms and ploss is at 3.2 s2c during the evening when I wanna play. Kinda sucks, and I'm considering upgrading the service, and possibly getting a different provider. I just moved in, less than a month ago, so it's new service for me, and it's worse than I had 8(
  7. Have you recently moved or changed any hardware/settings/etc. ? If nothing has changed recently, then it is probably a temporary situation with the internet, between you and the server of choice. You can try running a trace from the game's main menu for more specific info.
  8. Yes, the sound card or it's drivers.
  9. have you tried other directional buttons other than the main pad?
  10. On a side note, that banner looks like 'layer of men' at 1920x1200 res. I shall remain silent and politically correct.
  11. HAHAHA, yeah go to the dropdown for 'resolution' and set it there before you enter every zone. My computer has a bug in my main profile that oddly defaults it from 1920x1200 to 1280x1024. I don't know why it does it, the profile and everything is set up properly... but if I play at the proper res and then exit, when I go to that resolution tab it has defaulted it back. If I don't set it every time I play, I get screwy res. I just change it every time and it works properly in-game. If it isn't that, then try the following: Display Properties>settings>advanced>monitor>driver>update driver choose 'No', then i'instal from a list or specific location', then 'don't search, choose your own'. Finally, uncheck the 'show compatible hardware' box. You should see some additional monitors on the right, try one of the ones with the same res that you want.
  12. I've heard about ppl getting the 'entering arena' spontaniously before. It's a wierd bug, I would guess it's due to a router messing up and sending bad packets(?)
  13. Is the monitor your limiting factor?
  14. It's just alsways been my policy... If the OS is screwed up, you normally don't 'fix' it. System restore, driver re-installs, virus scans, and ad-ware scans... sure do 'em. But when you have probs with explorer.exe or a persistant BSOD or 'illegal operations'. Then you know the OS is hosed. I just never feel confidant working on a machine with a patched up OS, and usually, you will still have little residual problems that you will have to live with. If you think about it, it broke because of something, and you still don't know what that is. OS re-installs can be annoying, but after you do it a few times, it isn't so bad.
  15. if he had re-installed the OS, he woulda been done a week ago...
  16. check this: http://www.ssforum.net/c/index.php?showtopic=6649
  17. First, check this out: http://beginners.subspace.net/quick.php you may also be having common problems that many new players run into, so check this out if you are still having probs: http://www.ssforum.net/c/index.php?showforum=195
  18. turn off gamma correction in the game options (might be called "adjust brightness")
  19. show me a screenshot of the task manager of a healthy windows machine without explorer.exe running. I double-dog dare ya...
  20. re-download and install the skin?
  21. explorer.exe should be 'in use' and the file *shouldn't* copy. 8(
  22. So you can't click the start button for the start menu and you have no desktop icons? btw it's Iexplorer.exe explorer.exe is always running (it's a core windows process). In versions of windows prior to win2k, if explorer.exe crashed, or was not running... then you essentially had no operating system. If explorer.exe froze, then your OS would crash. If you couldn't run it, then your pc wouldn't boot. Sounds like time for a re-install of the OS.
  23. are you running linux or OSX?
  24. Try changng the color depth in the game options. Use 8 bit color.
  25. Do you see continuum.exe in the process list?
