  1. This. And you can do what tm_master does. Yeah well you need other new players to play with new players, so they actually have comparable skill levels and don't get slaughtered. I've been in 17th all day, and I have been killing people to much and they log off =/ So it seems I have to play bad on purpose so people enjoy playing =/ Meh might as well Ah, this is true as well. >.< It's also a problem for the regulars, because they're too good, and so if you are trying to get new players into the zone (to later become regulars), that's quite a challenge.
  2. This. And you can do what tm_master does.
  3. Why the sad face pilot? No more bogies, no more Charlies, no more nme's? Miss fr? Sorry pilot. It's time. -_- Farewell, and live your life.
  4. So pilot, how long have you been in this quadrant?
  5. Hehe, there's a thread about people receiving theirs on HardForum.
  6. Correction Step 1: Google XAMPP Step 2: Ignore the previous step and just click this link Step 3: Install and enjoy!
  7. Yes, I recall that there was one. Unless someone finds it for you in the SSDL archives and uploads it to SSGN, you'll have to download the whole thing (or use torrent) at http://forums.ssgn.net/topic/24087-ssdl-files-repost/page__view__findpost__p__258251__hl__%2Bssdl+%2Brepost__fromsearch__1
  8. I still think it would be cool if the old statistics data were converted and imported into this database. I would like to see the population trends for the entire game.
  9. I don't know where you pull out these assumptions. You do a lot of logic twisting. Why would we do that? We're a business, have no problems financially, and have no reason whatsoever to rid of the server.
  10. I am making a fansite for http://www.eatandys.com/. Nope, they never asked me to do it. I came up with this idea, and since I love the custards and the company so much, I am going to make my idea a reality. http://www.hlrse.net/Qwerty/xhtml/EatAndys-Database/Site%20v3/index.html (base) http://www.hlrse.net/Qwerty/xhtml/EatAndys-Database/Site%20v3/database.html (complete) http://www.hlrse.net/Qwerty/xhtml/EatAndys-Database/Site%20v3/details.html (complete) http://www.hlrse.net/Qwerty/xhtml/EatAndys-Database/Site%20v3/statistics.html (complete; may make a couple modifications as to what is shown though) http://www.hlrse.net/Qwerty/xhtml/EatAndys-Database/Site%20v3/generator.html (complete; may make a couple modifications) Andy's Frozen Custard is a fast-food chain that produces custard (not ice cream). The custard alone doesn't have much taste, but when you blend it together with some things, it is one of the best things you could ever have. There are thirty toppings, not including seasonal toppings. This allows for a tremendous amount of unique combinations. So the idea is to have a database of custard and topping combinations, generated by user submissions and reviews. In addition, there will be a generator (which uses random.org for true randomness) that can come up with a random combination, in case a person is bored of eating the same thing all the time and wants to try something new and different. The first step was to produce skeletal and conceptual material. Complete The second step is to place them into the website template and style them (and make sure there is at least a decent level of cross-compatibility). Complete The third step is to document what the website should do function-wise. Complete The fourth step is passing off the document to a programmer (a buddy of mine in this case whom I have paid well) to write the back-end and integrate forms on the front-end. Complete The fifth step is public/private testing of the website, presenting the website to Corporate, and going officially live with the website. Work in progress There is a potential we may be able to go live within the next 7 days.
  11. This is false. for a week or so, until you finish shutting down the rest of your server Why would we do that? We're a business, have no problems financially, and have no reason whatsoever to rid of the server.
  12. As of two days ago it was decided that BlueT/SSCV would no longer provide Win32 ASSS gamehosting due to security and reliability concerns. Existing clients (two to be exact) have until February 25, 2011 before service to them is terminated. We will continue to support and provide for Subgame2 gamehosting without fee. If you are interested in signing up for hosting, you may find registration instructions at http://www.hlrse.net/subspace.php. And nope, this does not mean we will be shutting down entirely. We were supporting ASSS experimentally, and its trial on our systems have expired. We will, and have always since providing gamehosting to the SubSpace community, are a Subgame2 host. (Editor's note: The views and opinions expressed in this notice are BlueT's and are not shared by the Administration of the Subspace Gaming Network.)
  13. This is false.
  14. General information: If an organized structure is to succeed, the integrity of the highest ring of leadership must be of synchronized, healthy perspective for the sake of the organization and its purpose. If this integrity is broken within any leader of the highest ring of leadership for said organization, then the rest is to follow likewise. This principle is true of anything, from governments to denominations and churches, from corporations and business to indy game development.
  15. Connect your computer directly to your internet modem. No router. Disable any firewall software (ie. Zone Alarm) on your computer. Does it work now? If you disabled any firewall software (ie. Zone Alarm) on your computer, reactive them. Does it still work now? If you can get this far, plug your internet modem back into your router and your computer into the router. Does it still work now? If not, login to your router (usually at a page like http://192.168.0.1/ or http://192.168.1.1/) and make a backup of your router's configuration. Then reset the router by disconnecting it, finding a pen or a pin, finding the a button or hole which looks to be something that you stick a pen/pin into and push a button to reset the router (and do this), turn on the router while holding the reset button, wait 30 seconds and then release yourself from the reset button, wait a couple more seconds, disconnect the power from the router and wait about 5-10 seconds, reconnect the power. If you have DSL or some sort of connection login you need to configure on the router, you should do so now. Otherwise, does it still work now?
  16. I'm not going to post a second public duplicate of my thread (and keep both synchronized to the original private thread), so here you go: http://www.svencoop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39107
  17. All five of them. They are RAR parts. As far as I know, you can't have just one RAR part. But now that I think about it, I wonder if it is possible to make away with one so long as a file doesn't expand across to another part.

  19. Not to discourage anyone necessarily (warning: irony ahead), but I think when people say "oh let us revert to the first map and settings and all when there was population" it is not because of the map and settings. It is because it so happened that the right people were in the right place at the right time: sometimes this scenario occurs at the beginning of a zone's life, and sometimes later on in the zone's life. How does this happen? Well, if you think hard enough about it, you might be able to see that it just works out naturally as time goes on based on the population and activeness of the community as a whole (both in relation to each other). Many times when a zone has started and gotten popular is because (1) word of mouth and (2) the zone is new and people want to try it and it so happens that because enough people showed up, at least in many cases it seems, it was fun to play together, hang out with each other, and experience the times with each other. Have you ever noticed how when people make this suggestion and desire, it always happens to be when things were popular, hot, high, and up? More importantly, have you ever noticed that these desires are based on old-time, nostalgic experiences? ie. The past was great, especially the beginning of our experiences, and how we always want to go back to the past and relive them? Have you ever noticed this interesting phenomenon? Have you ever observed it? What I mean is, you can never relive the past. You can never again have a second experience within the same topic that is as great as the first. Go and play another game that you will find amazing and super awesome. After a while it gets boring, yet it's so "addictive" (so it feels and seems), and you either wait or try or both to achieve that level of intense awesomeness again. Over time, taking those feelings and observations into mind, I have made notices of patterns emerging, resulting in implied conclusions in my second paragraph. Here in SubSpace, many of us at least, wait and try to revive SubSpace and make it awesome again. The problem is, if you fall under this category anyway (which most if not all of you will), it won't ever be because you have already experienced the most you will ever get out of this game. When updates comes, if they ever (whether it be through a client that matches Continuum's standards and then lifts off to exceed Continuum's standards and pave the next paths of the story), only the new things will entice you more. It's like an addiction. You get into it and it's an awesome feeling. Then you need more, and more, and more. It's almost endless. However, eventually, you will reach a point where "more" simply just isn't possible (ie. in this case, lack of development of the game itself). It is finite. Once you have reached the climax, generally so to speak, there isn't really anything wholesome that can be done to keep it from going downhill. Yes, maybe it might sort of "stablize," but its projected direction will more than likely in most realistic cases never again be uphill (at least not too significantly and not for long).
  20. What about daily automated updates where every time the client is launched a unique key is attained. The key would be generated based on true randomness. If I recall correctly, random.org uses a physical device(s) of some sort that are designed to attain a true randomness, but it has been so long since I last tread upon this topic (so you would have to do the research yourself). I have always thought that it would be very cool if an encryption and security mechanism was based upon true randomness versus algorithms and code mortal man has created. I imagine though, to do it just right, would probably require an excelling and masterful proficiency in mathematics (and enough programming with it to be able to code it).
  21. Where are you trying to connect to SubSpace from? Home? College? Work?
  22. Credibility boost if you write your news submission with proper grammar and professionally consistent formatting and post structure. Examples below. Incorrect Correct (or at least more user-friendly): Also take into consideration Maverick's questions and answer them somewhere in the post. Intelligent players will have a separate profile that uses a password that can be safely stolen. Different alias is optional.
  23. Every generation of kids are babied and more spoiled than the last, generally anyway. The same applies to gaming, not necessarily because of the players themselves, but because of game developers. Who actually wants to sit down and play a real game of slow-paced, intellectually-challenging chess, when you can hop in a fast-paced, shoot 'em up, quick-kill game (or zone) and be done with it altogether? The more and faster you get to "maxing out a game," the quicker it loses its value. It's like masturbating rough, hard, and quick to get the job done ASAP instead of slowly, gently, and over the course of perhaps a couple hours, and doing this every single day for a long time. Unfortunately, I have to agree with Yupa uses the term 'corrupted', even though I am an SVS newb though having been with this game since 1998. EDIT: This is why I love SSCV Realism Zone! HAH YES. Been planning on organizing a night play there.
  24. I really hope someone (like hallu) will release their entire SVS collection at some point. It would be a great shame to lose all that history and the public not have a copy of it.
  25. hahaha
